    Publisher's Summary:
Convicted of brutally murdering his girlfriend, seventeen-year-old John Meyer Frey marks time in an Ohio maximum security prison, awaiting execution. For nearly a decade, the victims father has hungered for Freys death, while a prison guard is torn by compassion for the young man. When Frey unexpectedly dies of heart disease before he either receives his just punishment or achieves redemption, the wheels of justice grind to a halt.
Six years later, on a ferry between Finland and Sweden, a singer named John Schwarz viciously attacks a drunken lout, leaving the man in a coma. The Stockholm police arrest Schwarz and assign Detective Superintendent Ewert Grens to the seemingly straightforward assault case. But when Grens learns that the assailant has been living in Sweden under a false identity, he begins to suspect that something darker and more complex underlies the incident. Following his intuition, Grens launches an investigation that stretches from Sweden to the United States and reveals a shocking connection between the Frey and Schwarz cases. Featuring a multilayered plot with a killer twist, Cell 8 takes you on a page-turning journey that explores the devastating repercussions of the death penalty as well as the fallout from the conflicting desires for public justice and private retribution.
    Members Reviews:
    A long journey for justice
Cell 8 is the story of revenge justice and the long outdated belief that an "eye-for-eye" is just. Cell 8 takes many shortcuts with due process and international laws. The story is still enjoyable and full of meaning, both tangible and intangible, even with the apparent ignorance toward official procedures. The death penalty is center stage thoughout the book and may not be enjoyable for someone who is strongly locked into an opinion at either extreme. This story makes others with less conviction question whether they support or oppose the taking of a life as a just form of criminal punishment. Several story arcs are started and left unresolved which screams that more books are on the way from these fine authors. I admit I found Three Seconds a more compelling story than Cell 8, but both are credit worthy. Mr. Lane gives a great performance and contributes to the enjoyment of Cell 8.
    Good but not great
Listeners who enjoyed Roslund & Hellstrom's Three Seconds will likely find the followup to be just about as good. In some ways it's even better, as the characters are now a little more familiar to both the authors and the readers. In other ways it's less good, as there's not as much of a mystery to the story as there was in the first book. Be prepared for a pretty blatant anti-death penalty message without a lot of subtlety. If you don't mind that, the story is entertaining. The problem with a "message book" like this is that the authors' viewpoint tends to take center stage, and the story takes a backseat. That is mostly not the case here, happily. The authors are against the death penalty; that seems clear. But since most of the world is against it too, I'm not sure now necessary it is to beat readers over the head with it. Nevertheless, the story is creative, the narration is very good (Christopher Lane really does a good job with the Swedish accents), and the characters are believable.

    Genres: Mysteries & Thrillers, Suspense
    Publisher's Summary:
A young woman recently relocated to a tiny Vermont logging town, Lillian is menaced by a mysterious stalker named Blackway. This one man - who kills her cat, forces her boyfriend to flee the state in terror, and silently threatens her very existence - is a force little understood by the local figures to whom she turns for help. Yet, in this spare and powerful tale, Lillian enlists the powerful brute Nate and the curmudgeonly Lester to take the fight to her tormenter as a raggedy quartet of town elders ponders her likely fate.
With simple strength and extraordinary force, Go With Me is a riveting modern fable of good provoked to resist evil.
    Critic Reviews:
"A gripping, taut tale of suspense.... a spare, tense novel set within the desolation and desperation of the Vermont woods.... That things will eventually turn violent is a given. Even before a punch is thrown or a shot is fired, the dread is as thick as maple syrup. Freeman, a perceptive, enticing writer, isn't bloodthirsty. When violence erupts, it's sharp and succinct. Still, this isn't some heady novel about violence or its various consequences. It's about an America - insular and self-defined - that exists beyond the media's gaze. These are hard people, but they're also infused with humor, humanity, and a sense of right and wrong.... Go With Me is a gem that sparkles with sly insight and cuts like a knife." (The Boston Globe)
"Like its young heroine, Lillian, Freeman's trim powerhouse is a pistol.... Freeman's beautifully cadenced dialogue is rich with humor, philosophic depth and a near-mythic sensibility." (Publishers Weekly)

    Not Worth the Time
Would you try another book from Castle Freeman and/or Steven Roy Grimsley?
Probably not. This book was a large disappointment. The reason I downloaded it was because of a favorable review on NPR. It did not live up to it's review at all.
What could Castle Freeman have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
I found the dialog plodding, tedious and uninteresting. The only thing Freeman could do is to learn how to write dialog. characters repeating the same words back and forth to one another is third grade quality writing. character 1: He did it ; character 2: Yes he did ; character 3 Yep, that's what happened ; character 1 : That's what I said ; character 3: Yep, he sure did it ; character 2: Never thought he'd do it ; character 1: Oh I knew he'd do it ; character 2: Yep, you did ; reader: shoot me now.....
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Steven Roy Grimsley?
Grimsley wasn't to bad given that he didn't have a lot to work worth.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Disapointment. I stayed with it because I kept waiting for it to get better. A waste of time.

Can't wait for the next one
I wish the next book was already available. This is one of the best series I have ever read. As a character, Death is an unlikely source of comic relief and reality. The lead character, Casey, is running from griefand refuses to confront some very serious problems. I love that Casey is not homeless and living on the fringe of society. It's a nice way to bring her back to her own world. I can not wait for the next installment. Judy Clemens is one of my favorite authors.
    Couldn't stop listening!
I thought this one was much better than the first two books in the series. Better story and faster paced. Loved it!
Another Great Book in the Death Series.
Loved the book! The narrator was engaging and was consistent with the characters' voices. Now to move on to the next (last?) book.
Already downloading the next in the series!!
I'm really enjoying this series - as I said in the title I'm already downloading the next book (Dying Echo) and hopefully it won't be the last.
I love Tavia Gilbert's narration and that's originally how I found this series, I like searching for books not only by my favourite authors but my favourite narrators. Tavia does another great job with the Grim Reaper series.
In this book Casey continues her travels and lands herself amidst another drama.
I've really come to love the relationship Casey has with Death and the conversations between them.

    Publisher's Summary:
In the new nail-shredding novel from New York Times best-seller Laura Lippman, Eliza Benedicts past returns to haunt her when the serial killer she escaped from as a young girl walks back into her life.
Twenty-five years ago, he stole her innocence. Now he wants to get in touch. Eliza Benedict cherishes her quiet existence with her successful husband and children in the leafy suburbs of suburban Washington. But her tranquillity is shattered when she receives a letter from the last person she ever expects - or wants - to hear from: Walter Bowman. In the summer of 1985, when she was 15-years-old, Eliza was kidnapped by serial killer Walter Bowman, who targeted young girls like Eliza in a sexually motivated killing spree. Now facing lethal injection on death row, Walter is keen to make contact with Eliza, seemingly motivated by a desire to atone for his sins before he finally meets his maker.
Carefully, with some reluctance, she lets Walter enter her life, first by letter, then in person. Walter is keen to convince Eliza that he has changed, but it becomes clear that Walter has more of an agenda than he first revealed. Cunning and manipulative, Walter is never more dangerous than when he can't get what he wants, and he wants something very badly. Disturbingly, he seems to have an ally working in the outside, one who seems to know everything about Eliza's life - including where she lives.
As Walter once again manages to exert his malign influence, Eliza must draw on all of her reserves of wisdom and strength as the battle of predator and prey once more plays out and she must face the past head on if she is to survive.
A taut and mesmerizing novel by the highly-acclaimed author of Life Sentences and Every Secret Thing.

    I Must have Missed Something
Love Laura Lippman but this story was lacking to me. I couldn't understand why the main character entertained the villian. The special telephone? Really? Some parts of the story seemed to have started out with a purpose but never really went anywhere. A little dissapointed but it won't stop me from looking for other Lippman books.
    Didn't really like it...
This was very dull. I couldnt get to the entire book because it didnt hold my attention. It could be a good book but was lacking something. I was very disappointed. I have read other bools by Laura Lippman and loved them. But this was not good at all.

    Fatally unput downable!
In Fatal Voyage Tempe finds an old foot bone mixed with the human remains of a plane crash site she is helping with. As a result of meddling by prominent members of the community, she is ordered of the case. Bones refuses to give up and investigates anyway. Kate Harper delivers a great performance which makes Fatal Voyage by Kathy Reichs fatally unput downable.
Interesting enough to compel me to go on
What did you love best about Fatal Voyage?
I've read almost all of the Kathy Reichs books and they are like an old friend now.
What other book might you compare Fatal Voyage to and why?
They are a bit like Patricia Cornwalls Scarpetta books, same kind of main character but Tempe is less pretentious.
Did Kate Harper do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?
I don't really like her voice but it forced me to think of the main character as different from the one I heard in my head when I read them.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
A really bad few days at the office.
    Another great book
Fantastic book. Great story line and great ending. Couldn't stop listening. Kathy reichs never disappoints.
    Involving, interesting and enjoyable!
What more could you ask! Possibly not for the uber squeamish! Well written and very well read - an enjoyable way to spend a few hours.
    disappointed
I found the performance and text jarring. illogical reactions by the characters felt unnaturally awkward.

Chloe Marin was lucky. She was just a teenager when a party at a Florida beachside mansion turned into a savage killing spree and she was one of the few to survive. Bloody handwriting on the walls pointed to a cult whose rituals included human sacrifice. Chloe's sketch of one of the killers linked two dead cult members found in the Everglades to the massacre, closing the case as far as the cops are concerned.
Ten years later, Chloe's works as a psychologist specializing in art therapy to help traumatized victims, and on the side she finds release in her passion for the martial arts. Police who hire her as a consultant know she's a literal kick-ass advocate for victims who can't always speak for themselves.
The current disappearance of a young swimsuit model ranks low on the cops' priority list. Everyone assumes the girl has run off for some fun in the sun, instead of getting ready for a photo shoot. Everyone but Chloe, who suspects a killer is using the modeling agency to stalk his prey. When the ghost of the model appears, asking Chloe for help, she knows that she has to do everything she can.
So does Luke Cane, a British ex-cop-turned-PI investigating the disappearance of the model on behalf of her father. Chloe and Luke have trouble trusting each other but they can't help their strong attraction for each other. Luckily, they agree on the important things: someone needs to find those missing girls, and if a few laws have to get bent so lives can be saved, too bad.
When Chloe arrives late for an appointment at the modeling agency, she discovers a gruesome mass murder eerily similar to the one she witnessed a decade ago - and can't help thinking that if she hadn't run late she would have been there when the killer arrived. Ten years ago, she hadn't been convinced the police had identified the real killers and now she's sure of it. The same evil mind is behind the current murders, and she's afraid she's the target....

    another Heather Graham book
This book was good, for the most part. I really wish the female protagonists in Heather's books weren't all the same. The female protagonist in this book is kind of basic in terms of appearance and personality. The pacing in this book is pretty good. Listeners beware of lengthy exposition at the end of the book.
    first time
The first book read from this author, enthalling plot which I found exciting to the end. Have downloaded many more from Graham with high expectations.

    Excellent Crime Novel
This is a very entertaining crime saga. It begins in 1958 with a multiple murder and kidnapping and then flashes back to 1936 where we are introduced to newspaper man Jack Corrigan and newsboy Connor O'Conner. The mystery then unfolds over the ensuing 65+ years.
The story is set in the fictional California coastal city of Las Piernas. The author does a great job of showing how the newspaper business changed over time. The same is true for police investigative techniques and tools.
After listening to this book, I discovered that newspaperwoman Irene Kelly, who does not show up in the book until the 1970s is the main character in a number of other books by the same author. What this books does is fill in some of the history of Las Piernas and the newspaper beginning in the 1930s. It's an excellent listen with a good reader.
    Oh my goodness!!
I just finished Bloodlines. What a great, well written story!!. The narration was also excellent! I'm going to use my credits this month to download more books by this author. Loved It!!
    Really good read overall
Really enjoyed this book. Good suspense and character development. There were some weak spots but ss a whole well worth a listen
slow starter but keep at it
At the beginning I was almost ready to see about returning this book. After the first part it got my attention. While it is somewhat contrived and some of the bad guys are a little too stupid I found it worth the time to listen to the end.
Its all about the Characters, and the Story Too!
Since I wrote a note of dissatisfaction with Jan Burke's first book, received a refund and then bought it back again, I have become addicted to her books. I walk on the beach every day, working on my badly broken knee and learning about each of the significant characters in this Irene Kelly series. In this larger work, we see events that occurred prior to Irene's birth and see how they became intertwined with the lives that followed. We love O'Conner more than ever and Jack and Helen as well. This is the best of Burk so far; I'm taking them one at a time, from the beginning, skipping nothing, and savoring every bit. I don't have any complaints about this one and have a growing respect for the evolution of this mystery writer as well as the tremendous skills of Eliza Foss.

Unique plot and exquisite character development and behavior consistency. I love the intensity of the bad guy behavior.
Great story, can't stand the narrator!
Would you listen to Silencer again? Why?
Yes because the narration was very poorly done. Have to continually go back and pick up details. See note below.
What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?
Narrator's voice wore me slick! Almost irritating. No ability to inflect his voice to differietiate between characters. Made it hard to follow.
    Any additional comments?
I would not purchase any other books by this narrator.
