    Publisher's Summary:
From Charlaine Harris, the best-selling author who created Sookie Stackhouse the world of Bon Temps, Louisiana, comes a new, darker world - populated by more strangers than friends. But then, that's how the locals prefer it.
Welcome to Midnight, Texas, a town with many boarded-up windows and few full-time inhabitants, located at the crossing of Witch Light Road and Davy Road. It's a pretty standard dried-up western town. There's a pawnshop (someone lives in the basement and is seen only at night). There's a diner (people who are just passing through tend not to linger). And there's new resident Manfred Bernardo, who thinks he's found the perfect place to work in private (and who has secrets of his own). Stop at the one traffic light in town, and everything looks normal. Stay awhile, and learn the truth....
    Members Reviews:
A beautifully written and narrated book.
Manfred Bernard (from The Harper Connelly mysteries) moves to the quirky town of Midnight with it's strange and off beat residents and quickly decides he will fit right in. However trouble soon comes to the town and Manfred, often two steps behind despite his psychic gift, is drawn right in with his new neighbors.
Charlaine Harris has a talent for writing characters that no one else has yet matched for me. She shows all the angles, loves them for their strengthens and their faults, shows them through others eyes in a way that brings new life to them and in which they'd never see themselves. The weary humor and understanding of human nature Charlaine Harris brings to this story really sets it apart me and I think it's a real shame that although she has reached popular acclaim with True Blood, stories like the Harper Connelly mysteries and Midnight Crossroad don't seem get the critical acclaim they deserve. Yes there's magic and mystery here and I like that in a story but it only adds spice to a beautifully drawn portrait of the intriguing characters in an American small town.
Susan Bennetts' narration just seems good at first, though you get very little of it in the story, as much of it is told in the first person, through the varying eyes of the town's residents. This showcases the narrators ability to credibly do an array of voices, from old men to young mothers and at times I really forgot I wasn't watching a show rather than listening to a book.
You don't need to read the Harper Connelly mysteries to enjoy this book but I'm glad I did as Manfred's perception of himself is incredibly self deprecating and it's good to contrast them with Harper's version of an intelligent, confident and worldly wise young man. I also loved the character of his grandmother Xlyda (pronounced Zilda in the audiobooks) and much of Manfred's character is explained by his upbringing with her.
I really hope Harris continues to write about Midnight and I will be pre-ordering the books if she does, especially if they are told by such a good narrator as Susan Bennett. One of the best books of 2014 as far as I'm concerned.
    Quirky and unexpected.

    Format: Unabridged
Length: 11 hrs and 28 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 05-08-14
    Publisher: RJ Parker Publishing Inc.
Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 3 votes
    Genres: Mysteries & Thrillers, Suspense
    Publisher's Summary:
Ex-Ranger Connor Bradwick and his partner, Ellie James, are an Oakland PD patrol team who care about the people of their community. They are tired of the bad guys trying to take over their turf. After rescuing four kidnapped children from kiddie porn dealers, the duo is pulled to desk duty and required to go through psychological evaluation. The straight-and-narrow psychologist has concerns about Connor's readiness to return to duty, so when their boss clears them for duty she decided to ride along.
Tired of picking up criminals just to have them released, Beckworth devises a plan of proactive patrolling. When parolees are released in their area, they will monitor the criminals' known places of business to catch them in the act or deter them from doing business. Their very first effort nets them an arrest and everything, both good and bad, snowballs from that point.
Elle has a smart attitude bigger than her six-foot-plus partner. Connor brings his experience as a soldier to the streets. Julie, the psychologist, finds herself more involved with this dynamic duo than she ever dreamed possible. This action-packed, suspense-filled police story begins with a bit of righteous vigilant justice but that is not what the book is about. Humor, friendship, and people who care make this awesome story work. It is an overall up-beat novel.

Connor and Ellie kick some ass
    Another good one from Deleo.
Connor Bradwick is 6'3" and one good looking guy. He's a special forces vet. He's also a cop in Oakland, CA.
He and his partner Ellie James are on patrol when they see a young boy running from a man. Of course they stop and check it out. After Connor clocks the guy he and Ellie question the boy.
Seems the young boy was kidnaped by the man years ago. He tells Connor and Ellie there are three other kids and more adults in a camper parked under the overpass.
Connor decides to take no prisoners.
He kills the three adults and gets the kids to Ellie. He then returns and makes the whole thing look like a righteous shooting. Ellie backs him one hundred percent as neither she nor Connor were concerned with killing three kidnapping sexual predators.
Of course after using his weapon he's ordered to undergo eval by the Department. Julie Morrison is the psycologist who works for the county and she's in charge of Connor's eval.
    So begins one fine read.
This one has Connor, Ellie, Sgt. Donaldson, psycologist Julie Morrison, Jas and his partner Louie, Det. Morton, a mob kingpin named Ayala, the FBI, loads of bad guys, a county commissioner named Stennis and two police officers making headway on crime with a little vigilante justice.
    Five Stars
    Cops doing the right thing
Tough cops doing the right thing. Traffickers of human children, caught in the act, have no rights according to these cops. Only liberal lawyers would disagree with the opening scenario.
    Another great book
As always a great read. Bernard's books are for the politically incorrect and proud of it, not afraid and to laugh and cheer out loud people. Loved the ride
    THE PROTECTORS by Bernard DeLeo
THE PROTECTORS reads like an action filled, fast-paced movie that keeps you on the edge of your seat. DeLeo created characters that are loveable and funny one moment, and the next, with the cold detachment necessary to do their jobs, deep in the business of doing away with the bad guy.

The latest compelling Quirke Dublin mystery.
She looked at him and smiled sadly. You've lived too long among the dead, Quirke,' she said. He nodded. Yes, I suppose I have.' She was not the first one to have told him that, and she would not be the last.
1950s Dublin: When a body is found in the canal, pathologist Quirke and his detective friend Inspector Hackett must find the truth behind this brutal murder. But in a world where the police are not trusted and secrets often remain buried there is perhaps little hope of bringing the perpetrator to justice.
As spring storms descend on Dublin, Quirke and Hackett's investigation will lead them into the dark heart of the organisation that really runs this troubled city: the church. Meanwhile Quirke's daughter Phoebe realises she is being followed; and when Quirke's terrible childhood in a priest-run orphanage returns to haunt him, he will face his greatest trial yet....

Engaging book spoiled by poor readery
This reader really ruined the book for me. He was unable to undertake any Irish accent and so resorted to a combination of stage Dublin and a bizarre attempt at a Belfast accent for characters who according to the story would not have had such an accent. His attempt to represent the speech of the Irish travelling community was insulting to them. Why could an Irish actor not be employed?

Romantic and literary mystery-caper. Beautifully written and charmingly narrated. Not sure what more I can say. If you're in the mood for a relaxing and amusing read, this should do it.
    Love this series
I have listened to the entire series and I have enjoyed all of them.i have listened to the ser
    Great start!
    Any additional comments?
I love a story with a strong female character. She didn't need saved by the hero, she saved herself. The romance was secondary, if that. It had a good mystery. Every time I thought I knew what was going on, it changed. I really enjoyed this book.
    fun and frustrating
What did you like best about High Rhymes and Misdemeanors? What did you like least?
I likes the premise: A mystery about an American woman studying the Romantic Poets in the Lake Country...it had all the makings of a great mashup of cultures with some history and intrigue thrown in. What I didn't like was how poorly the characters were developed. The protagonist was wimpy, weak, and shallow, much like her dashing hero. It had too much of the romance novel light, which I deplore, and little of the cozy mystery depth I was looking for.
Has High Rhymes and Misdemeanors turned you off from other books in this genre?
The plot and characters were shallow and poorly defined. Changing point of view between the two main characters was confusing and just not good writing. It lacked consistency, flow, and I often found myself saying out loud, "what? how did that just happen? That makes no sense?" The motives of the killer were laughable. And one of the sub plot angles of a missing work of Byron's was a great idea that could have saved this book, but was surreptitiously dropped.
Did Saskia Maarleveld do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?
The characters were differentiated, but not well defined.
Was High Rhymes and Misdemeanors worth the listening time?
It was informative for me of how not to write my great novel. The one I've been meaning to write for the last two decades. ;-)
    Don't waste your time
This was bad writing in so many ways. I couldn't figure out if it was a romance novel or a treasure hunt. I do know it was not a cozy mystery like Diana Killian's other books. I will nt be reading anymore in this series.

    A very interesting story line
What made the experience of listening to Retribution the most enjoyable?
Difficult to say without spoilers, but I will say that the course of action taken by the protagonist was extremely novel and enjoyable to watch unfold.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Retribution?
The final battle on the Afghanistan mountain.
    Which scene was your favorite?
The final battle on the Afghanistan mountain.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
    No
    Any additional comments?
I was very disappointed in the resolution or comeuppance of one of the antagonists of the book. I felt very shortchanged in the weak subplot involving this character and moreover with the resolution of the character's actions of the subplot. It left me feeling unsatisfied. This character was one of the main antagonists and was mentioned throughout the book, but we never really were given a chance to form a strong opinion of this character and his inclusion in the book was ultimately unnecessary.
    Plodding
This is not a page turner. It took 1/2 the book before it became interesting. The characters are ok, the plot was ok but did have something new. There was very little action and came at the end of the book. It is ok not to have loads of action if there is suspense or intrigue but there was very little of this as well. Overall the book was flat. . The narrator did an adequate job but didn't seem to have much range for different voices. This was sorta ok since the story isn't in first person and there wasn't much dialogue. There were a few glitches in the production. Simply the story doesn't move along and lacks polish.

    Don't purchase this book yet
Would you listen to Six Bad Things again? Why?
This is book 2 of a fantastic series that HBO is now filming. Why Audible would include only book 2 (out of 3) is incomprehensible. Do they even care if listeners purchase the whole series?
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
Things for Henry just go from bad to worse, but he keeps getting lucky. It really is an edge of the seat story, and also kind of funny.
What does Christian Conn bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
Christian Conn is the perfect narrator for this series. He does great voices for the various characters.

    Great Storyline
Where does Missing You rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
Harlan Coben's books tend to follow a familiar formula but it's a good formula. I'd rate this book in the top 10% of audio thrillers I've heard.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Kat obviously. The whole story revolved around her.
Did the narration match the pace of the story?
The narration was very good generally apart from making many of the male characters sound like morons for some inexplicable reason.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes. I would have were that possible. I ended up listening to it over about 3 days because of work commitments.
    Any additional comments?
Great Story, Characters you cared about and heart pounding ending. The only drawback was the weird drawls some of the male characters were given.
    Gripping
I think this is my favourite Harlan Coben so far, I found myself glad I had a long drive so that I could listen uninterrupted. There were some gruesome bits that I didn't like, but happily for me not too many. The writer really jacked up the suspense and my heart was pounding in places and I had to make a conscious decision not to drive too fast!
The narrator's treatment of most of the male characters was weird though. They were generally portrayed as dumbass, deadbeat types, even when they weren't. There were some male characters that he got really well, so it's even stranger that he made the decision to go with those other portrayals in the way that he did. However, other than this he was a great reader.
Narration so bad had to give up
If this book wasnt for you, who do you think might enjoy it more?
Started this and had to give up the narration.

Chilling and taut, Nameless, introduces a fresh and exciting twist on the deadly game of cat and mouse. By virtue of one impulsive and deeply human, but all too grave mistake, a good and decent man finds himself pitted against the embodiment of evil and threatened with losing everything and everyone he loves and values; including the pristine reputation he has endeavored all his adult life to establish.
FBI Special Agent in Charge Daniel Falcone unwittingly steps onto course for a head-on collision with a frighteningly brilliant psychotic serial killer, whose harrowing childhood abuse and neglect left him devoid of humanity and salivating for revenge. Framed for a brutal murder on a commercial cruise ship, and fighting for the right to raise his sons and clear his name, Falcone races against the clock and struggles to keep his eyes on the prize, even while his profound guilt and self-loathing threaten to destroy him faster than his maniacal adversary.
    Critic Reviews:
"You Will Know His Name... The characters relationships and interactions are full of struggles and fun, not just purely good or bad. Nameless is definitely a book for those long days at the beach and one that will keep you reading until the end." (Portland Book Review)

Don't think twice - NAMELESS is a Great find!
Have you listened to any of Tracy Thibodeauxs other performances before? How does this one compare?
I have never listened to Tracy Thibodeaux before but I thought He did a really GOOD job. I thought his inflections and voice changes for different characters was really good. I did not think he sounded like Shatner but it's just my opinion.
    Any additional comments?
This was a REALLY good book. I really hope this author takes off because I could easily see him becoming one of my favorites. Although this book is quite long the story was a page turner throughout. There were no lulls, it was not repetitive and there were quite a few scenes that I did not see coming even though there were actually some subtle warnings (like if only she/he had done this, missed a sign, came home later etc then the events that occurred could have been avoided). This author is so talented I can't say enough about this book. There are lots of characters, plots and subplots galore but so well told you only have to listen. I just can't wait for a sequel!!
Narrated by a William Shatner impressionist?
Would you listen to Nameless again? Why?
No. The narrator was so distracting it was hard to get through. I haven't seen the physical book, but i'm guessing there isn't a comma after every word.
Who was your favorite character and why?
The killer. He was just a well rounded character, plenty of background. I'd really like to read the book, so i could get more into the story
What didnt you like about Tracy Thibodeauxs performance?
Everything. He paused after every word and he read so slow like he had to sound out every word. I could have gotten used to his game show announcer voice, if he would not have read like a robot version of captain kirk.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
I'm not sure, i liked the story, but i couldn't really get into it, the narrator ruined it.
    Any additional comments?
The narrator reads at a normal pace during any dialog then returns to his choppy, super slow cadence for the narration. It was very distracting.

    Very good!
Where does Daddy's Girl rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
Its good, but not great. I would have liked more depth to the characters. They were penned in a fairly superficial way.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Daddy's Girl?
    The final chapters.
Which scene did you most enjoy?
I don't want to include spoilers, so I can't say!
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No, several chapters at a time were enough.
    Any additional comments?
Daddy's Girl is very well written. South Africa is a pretty unique culture. The author used to be an investigative journalist with an interest in crime. She has stated that the organisational corruption in her novels represent reality there. The only thing the book lacked for me was a little more depth to the characters (al la Robert Galbraith's The Cuckoo's Calling). Also, although the narrator did a sterling job, I think this audiobook may have benefitted from a Male narrator. Due to the nature of the South African accent (for me), the male characters, read by the female voice, could be a little high pitched. I was at least 2/3rds of the way through the book before that no longer grated on me! An excellent narrator for other books though.
