    Publisher's Summary:
With The Sound of One Hand Clapping, which made him one of Australia's most awarded young writers, Richard Flanagan made his acclaimed American debut. Now he gives us an extraordinary, deeply moving novel as big and brawling, as strange and compelling as the land and people it describes. Beneath a waterfall on a remote Tasmanian mountain river, Aljaz Cosini, river guide, is drowning.
Beset by visions at once horrible and fabulous, he relives not just his own life but that of his family and forebears. He sees his father Harry, burying his own father Boy, under a tree that bursts into flowers in midwinter every year after. He sees Boy himself as a young man, working on the river; and his Auntie Ellie, on her way to fetch the doctor for her sick grandchild, chased by a cow she believes is a Werowa spirit. In the rain-forest waters that rush over him he sees those lives stripped of their surface realities, and finds a world where dreaming reasserts its power over thinking, where the branches of his story connect to family stories that are Aboriginal, Celtic, Italian, English, Chinese, and East European; stories that ground him in the land. As the river rises his visions grow more turbulent, and in the flood of the past Aljaz discovers the soul history of his country.
An adventure tale that transforms into a spiritual odyssey, by turns earthy, dreaming, comic, tragic, vulgar, and moving, Death of a River Guide is a beautiful, haunting story by one of the world's most exciting young writers.

    Never got good
As a former river guide I was looking forward to some gripping literature on river visions and such. This book was like 30% a broad tacky account of river guiding and 70% this guy telling about his twisted life. I could have charged $60/hr to listen to that.

    good!
good story ...just seems like it isnt finishedwe soncerely do kope there is another one
    Delightful
I really enjoy this writer. The story is well told and funny and a very good mystery. I would continue reading them.
    Give me more!
Still a hilarious story. Mercy goes on vacation and still ends up solving a crime. Working with the mafia is stressful, especially when you are hiding it from your mother. Her nursing skills are stretched to the limits in Roatan, Honduras. There are countless attempts on the life of her clients life. The limited opiates, hurricane winds and rains, and other medical resources challenge even Mercy skills to keep her client alive.
Even on vacation, Mercy and her mother, causes mens head to turn and accidents. Her godmother makes a radical change in her physical appearance and her aunt finds her happiness. The twins are wonderful and I was disappointed they did not get more story time.
There are so many funny characters in the story, her dad, uncle, her god mother (Dixie), mother, twins, step-cousin (Garrett) and aunt. These people add such color and enjoyment to the story. Aaron the Yahoo swilling, hot dog munching-dough boy is hysterical. My disappointment is most them are only given cameos each story. Her father is used as a scare tactic or to issue orders. Garrett is only there to tease Mercy for a few seconds.
Despite the small parts of Mercys inner circle, this is truly a funny Mercy story.
I am saving 5 stars for this series, for when Mercy's inner circle get bigger parts.
    Pleading for (More) Mercy
If you could sum up Diver Down in three words, what would they be?
    Kooky, Peril, Fun
Who was your favorite character and why?
Mercy is my favorite. She's relatable, smart, and imperfect. I love a character with flaws.
What about Lyssa Brownes performance did you like?
Everything. She's the perfect voice for Mercy and the rest of her crazy clan.
    Any additional comments?
I was very pleasantly surprised by the first novel and was glad to see that there were several more books in the series. The one thing I would point out as a downside to this book is that I don't love Aaron. I think I'm supposed to find him endearing but he's just annoying most of the time. Like a joke that went over so well the first time that the person keeps telling it over and over and over again.

Title: A Billion Ways to Die
    Author: Chris Knopf

    Release date: 11-21-14
    Publisher: Blackstone Audio, Inc.
Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 12 votes
    Genres: Mysteries & Thrillers, Suspense
    Publisher's Summary:
Arthur Cathcart and Natsumi Fitzgerald wanted to believe they were free of the nearly invisible, malignant forces they had pursued, and been pursued by, across continents and oceans. The slightly brain-damaged tech-freak researcher and the blackjack-dealing psychologist had convinced themselves that life aboard a sailboat in the Caribbean, incognito and in love, could be a lasting refuge.
The death of that illusion was as brutal as it was abrupt. Even people who knew how to dodge ruthless outlaws and relentless law enforcement learned there were powers from which no one could ever hide - not in the 21st century, not if you wanted more than to simply exist. To truly live in the world, you had to have a world that allows you to live. Soldiers fighting in Vietnam had a saying when pinned down under enemy fire: The only way out is through. And so it is that Arthur and Natsumi take to the fight, where the full expanse of both the virtual and material worlds is the field of engagement, nearly blind to the threats that surround them yet searching for that impossible path back to the ordinary lives they'd been forced to abandon.
Wiser, stronger, and more experienced in the art of clandestine combat than they ever imagined they'd be, Arthur and Natsumi understand what makes you strong can also get you killed in a hurry - that the reserves of resilience and determination aren't limitless, that the power of intellect and craft dwindles in the face of a pitiless and resolute foe, that there are a billion ways to die but only one way to live.

Cathcart is still in the thick of it. Lucky for us.
ABWTD is an excellent continuation of the Arthur Cathcart series. Mr. Knopf has done a great job of keeping up the cyber sleuthing and cyber sneaking to a level that is understandable and yet still very credible. I can only hope that there is an avenue to extend this series. It took me almost four hours to read the book. Lucky for me I didn't have to drive anywhere once I started reading. I understand that driving and reading a Chris Knopf novel are frowned upon by the law. I liked and believed the characters and was happy to see the way their situation was resolved. A great read and one that I highly recommend.
    Hurray for Arthur!
I love this series - the humor does not really diminish the tension, but by the third book, the reader is confident that the good guys always win! Fun frolic and very well written. Appealing characters and settings.
    Four Stars
Clever plot twists with the right amount of technicalities to retain credibility and keep the imagination engaged.

Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 12 votes
    Genres: Mysteries & Thrillers, Suspense
    Publisher's Summary:
Number-one best-selling author Patricia Cornwell delivers the next enthralling thriller in her high-stakes series starring Kay Scarpetta - a complex tale involving a serial sniper who strikes chillingly close to the forensic sleuth herself.
It's Chief Medical Examiner Dr Kay Scarpetta's birthday, and while she's enjoying a leisurely morning, a man is shot dead five minutes from her house. The bullet tore through him as he unloaded groceries from his car. Yet nobody heard or saw a thing.
It looks like the work of a serial sniper - one who leaves no trace except for tiny copper fragments, and whose seemingly impossible shots cause instant death. As Scarpetta investigates, uncovering details that only she can analyze, she begins to suspect that the killer is sending her a message.
Adding to Scarpetta's growing unease is the sense that those closest to her are keeping secrets. And when her pursuit of the sniper takes Scarpetta to a shipwreck off the Florida coast, she comes face to face with shocking evidence that implicates her niece Lucy - Scarpetta's very own flesh and blood

Hit and then it hit the floor
I am a Scarpetta fan and found this audio book a good listen. Great narration, with authentic accents and distinguishable character voices, which are always a pleasure. I found the storyline very credible and interesting.
The only flaw for me was a eager sudden and flat ending. I realize the intended purpose of it, bout found it to be a rather bland ending to an otherwise rise momentum-building story.
    Another great thriller from PC
This story was good like most of Patricia Cornwell's stories. The characters are like comfy slippers that just feel right when you put them back on. Good storyline really well read by a easy to listen to narrator. However the finish felt separate from the rest of the story almost like it could have come anywhere in the story. Still very enjoyable.
    Awh no.....
You can't leave it there!!! Will I need to wait one full year to satisfy my curiosity? I can't believe it!!!!
    Travelogue not Crime Thriller
I have gone back to reading Patricia Cornwell after quite a break.
    This book was so disappointing
    All street names and places
I had to listen to the end twice to make sure I had the ending correct
    Review of flesh and blood
Wasn't as good as her earlier books but still not bad. Will still keep listening to her books good reads

Really enjoyable McCarthy puts a different spin on events surrounding the Alamo.
This was an above average western romance that
became more intriguing with each paragraph. I was very pleased with the Authors imagination and his ability to maintain my anticipation as to what happens next. I normally can pick up on how the storyline will end, but I was was completely baffled on the ending of this wonderful mystery/love story. Great reading: Do not miss this one!

Become entangled in a situation of a normal guy forced into being a spy
Seth Rogan was a shitty spy. Actually, he wasn't a spy at all. Just a guy trying to do the right thing. As a biologist for the largest biotech company in the world, he had a great job, and thoroughly enjoyed all the perks. But when asked to do some tests on the company's genetically engineered (GMO) foods, he became entangled in a trail of corruption, fraud and conspiracy that he wanted no part of, but could not escape from. In a story of mystery and intrigue so true to life it could almost be from today's newspapers, Seth, having bit the hand who fed him, is on the run from them, and the full overreaching strength of the United States government, not as a whistleblower, but as a fugitive, charged with espionage, who finds temporary refuge with an old enemy of the U.S. But his peace is about to be broken as he finds himself in the role of an involuntary spy.
    Members Reviews:
    Interesting but disturbing read
If you could sum up An Involuntary Spy: A GMO Thriller in three words, what would they be?
To technical but very close to the truth if it were to be known.
What did you like best about this story?
The humor, how Seth stood up for what he believed in for man kind and would not back down.
    Which scene was your favorite?
When they asked him what his name was and he said Barney and the guy that helped him said come on Barney and turned it into the joke it was.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
The technical part made it a little boring, but I felt this is our future sad but true so I felt a lose for those who will come after me and what their life will be like.
    Any additional comments?
I thought this had an outstanding plot and more real than we could even think. The author points at the end I agree with a lot of what he said. I almost put it down when it got so technical and I felt it was over my head. I felt the author could have got the point across better had he toned it down a little.
With that said if you take most of the technical out it was an outstanding read. With some wonderful characters and a few twist you do not see coming. Others you expect but there is a few in there I thought would go another way. Once I over looked the technical things I really enjoyed the listen.
I thought the narrator has a smooth voice and I did enjoy listening to him. I felt he brought out the tones great for the characters. I really liked Seth and a few others. There are a few wonderful characters that you grow to care about. Some that will surprised you I know they did me.
Honestly if I had read this and not listen to it on audio I would have skip a lot of it. Listening to it on audio I feel sure made this a much better read. The author does give us a powerful message and one that you might want to take a look at. Seth is a bad spy but gets his points across and doesn't back down from what he believes in. I am sure I wouldn't have done half as good as he did when push came to shove. He might be a little nerdy but his heart is in the right place and really all he wants to do what is best for the world while living a quite life.GMO in foods should be everyone's worry and is something we should read up on.
