Richard A Clarke brings his Fact-based writing skills into the world of Fiction, and We, The Readers, Win !
After reading Mr Clarke's first Book, and discovering just how badly the Bush-Cheney cabal had failed to prevent 9/11, by ignoring their most experienced, and knowledgeable NSA Advisor about the dangers of Bin Laden and Al Queda, I was anxious to try some of his fiction. After seeing Mr Clarke on,... was it Dr Maddow's Show ? , anyway, I immediately came to Amazon and purchased Pinnacle Event, and Man, am I glad I did ! I
m a constant reader, and a big fan of writers like Lee Child, Daniel Silva, Brad Thor, and others who write about Espionage and Security Services with such insight and knowledge of the World's Intelligence and counter-terrorism forces. Richard A Clarke just moved up into the ranks, and exceeded many of them. Using his experience and knowledge of Our Clandestine services, and infusing that with great writing, and excellent character development, Pinnacle Event kept me up way past my usual late bedtime, and kept me on the edge of my seat for hours. That, Folks, is Entertainment in my Book ! Now, I'm off to buy "Sting of the Drone" !
An exciting way to learn about the dangers of "rouge" nuclear warheads in the world.
A great way to learn of the dangers from "loose" nuclear warheads that still exist in the world.
The book starts with a "low grade" nuclear explosion spotted in the Indian Ocean, and the subsequent investigation into how that came about. That leads to an international team of intelligence agents trying to untangle dangerous triangle of money, corruption and terrorism to find out how many dirty warheads are still out there "in the market".
    A great, and educational read.
    Too much is Non Fiction
Clarke has written another compelling thriller, filled with the kind of details that reveal his knowledge of events at a high level. A story I hated to stop reading, even as work intervened.
exciting story that's both fun to read and a bit scary
Richard Clarke, as usual, presents a believable, exciting story that's both fun to read and a bit scary, given how plausible everything seems. I definitely recommend it for anyone who enjoys geopolitical thrillers. My only complaint with the book is that it never seemed to be copy-edited, with too many mistakes in grammar and punctuation. It gets to be distracting. I hope that someone will spend a little effort on that before the paperback version comes out.
    Thrills and serious education combined
This is one of those thrillers that educates.

What do you get when you mix a vampire hunter, who happens to be an FBI Agent and my boss, add a fallen angel, that's me, and a genius criminal profiler with secrets?
You get the Monster Squad! We hunt monsters and other whatnots. Add to the mix an extra hot alpha wolf, a mysterious town with a serial killer on the loose, and you have total mayhem.
I'm Izzy Cooper, and I'm sporting a pair of black wings. To earn redemption, I had to return to my life as a fallen angel, and work tirelessly to bring down bad guys. It's a good thing I have some help in the form of my guardian demon, who happens to be as hot as he is devious. But that isn't the only guy problem I have to deal with.
I have a new job with the Atypical Crimes Management Unit of the FBI, which happens to be based in my hometown of Storm Cove. Returning to Storm Cove means facing Elias Moreland, who just happens to be my high school crush, and the sexiest guy I've ever met. Too bad he's also a werewolf. Saving my soul, while protecting my heart from an extra hot werewolf isn't easy, when being wicked is a natural element of my nature.
Warning: Izzy Cooper is a nice girl, but she can also be an opinionated bitch from Hell. After all, she is a fallen angel. On occasion, she likes to play with hot guys who have hotter than hell bodies. This story is not for the faint of heart, or those easily offended by sarcasm, dark mystery, and hot romance. You have been warned.

I want her to read to me again!
This was my first audiobook and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The narrator's voice felt very comfortable to me. Her use of character voices kept who was speaking, and when, clear while not distracting from the overall experience. (I still find myself questioning whether the voice of Mr. Grim was actually her or not). I enjoyed the story but felt one or two places where some details were lacking. That could have very well been due to either this being my first time listening to a book, or my anal retentiveness. Could also be I'm easily distracted when ... OH LOOK! A CHICKEN!! ......
    Absolutely Terrible Narration
I have no idea if this story is any good because the narration was so bad I couldn't even get through the first 10 minutes of the book. The narrator has bad inflection, no personality, and is barely one step up from monotone. Her timing is terrible. She has no ability to narrate. I have hundreds of books from Audible and this is the second worst narration I have ever heard.

    Interesting Concept
This is a very good read. The storyline is solid and the characters developed.
    Save your time & money
Awkward plot, poor character development beyond stereotypes, and no suspense. One of those rare books in which I found myself not caring who the killer was. I gave up on it about 2/3 of the way through.

    Gripping
Really enjoyed. Mainly listened to whilst driving and ironing. Have to admit , ironed slowly as it kept me gripped. Totally believable although once or twice I thought it was a big daft towards the end but on the whole thoroughly enjoyed
    Compelling
Initially was very frustrated by the story line but found this to be a compelling listen .
Becomes less frustrating as the story develops.
Good listen for those who like psychological thrillers.
engaging story and an easy listen
the narrator was good, sounded like she had a cold but at emotional parts it helped make it sound authentic. I think the ending could have been expanded more as it sounded like an after thought rather than a twist, but I liked it and if you want an interesting easy listen with a good narrator and characters then download this one.
    Creepy but really good

The British offered Jean Lafitte a Captaincy in the British navy along with extensive lands, titles and $30,000 in gold if he agrees to join with them to fight against the United States. So why does Lafitte refuse their generous offer? In the approaching War of 1812 General Andrew Jackson hasn't any weapons, ammunition or money to fight the British with and no one to turn to for help but the notorious pirate Jean Lafitte. Jackson hates pirates, but he agrees to meet with Lafitte, and he forms an unlikely alliance with the dashing pirate. What changed Jackson's mind about attending the meeting? Fun Story Wasted
What did you like best about Lafitte's Treasure? What did you like least?
The plot was interesting enough to keep me listening. The narration was horribly distracting.
What do you think your next listen will be?
Not sure; I may need to re-listen to Dan Brown or Steve Berry.
What didnt you like about A. T. Al Benellis performance?
The narrator made the two protagonists sound like a couple of imbeciles. I kept expecting Eddie to say "Tell me 'bout the rabbits, George", and the female protagonist sounded like a really bad impersonation of a 7 year girl that's never left the house. The cadence was more suited for a first grade teacher reading Curious George to her class.
Did Lafitte's Treasure inspire you to do anything?
Yes, to never again buy Corso book.
    Any additional comments?
The story was interesting enough; Dan Brown would've had a field day with this plot, but this story seemed rushed and almost insultingly simple. There are also blatant inconsistencies and highly improbable legal interpretations that make the story hard to swallow.
    Great treasure hunting adventure.
What made the experience of listening to Lafitte's Treasure the most enjoyable?
This story, for me, it has all the vital ingredients, action, adventure, murder, mystery, and romance. This authors attention to detail has meant that he has also added a lot of fascinating history about New Orleans and the famous pirate Jean Lafitte. The icing on the cake was the brilliant narration of A. T. Al Benelli.
Have you listened to any of A. T. Al Benellis other performances before? How does this one compare?
I have now listened to three of A. T. Benelli's narrations and think he is very talented, he is one narrator who I will be looking out for in the future.
    Any additional comments?
The legacies, left to Eddie, and Julianna, bond them as they embark on their exciting and dangerous adventure.

    fast-paced multiple murder mystery
In 1984 teenager Megan Leary finds her mother Doris dead. Everyone in Exile believes Megan killed her mother. However, during the trial, someone else confesses he killed the older Leary. Megan flees town, but most townsfolk still believe she is the killer.
Fifteen years later Megan returns to her hometown hired by an old friend to look for her missing high school age daughter, Aurelia Galvan. Meg is a licensed sleuth to the chagrin of the local sheriff's department who want her to leave town. Only newcomer Sheriff Deputy Dan Fox acts undisturbed by her activities though he has to rescue a drunken Meg from a deliberately set fire. Together they begin to learn what happened to the vanished teen and to her mother. However, someone wants to keep her ignorant of the truth and begins killing people, who may have been part of a conspiracy of silence. Meg and Dan could easily be next.
Though Megan getting drunk even while she needs to maintain her tough girl posture seems out of place except to allow Dan to rescue her, fans will enjoy this crime thriller. Once Meg speeds into town, the story line never eases off the accelerator. Meg is a strong protagonist and a bewildered Dan is an ideal sidekick. Fans will enjoy Roxanne Lomgstreet's fast-paced multiple murder mystery.

Number Three in a Compelling German Police Procedural Series, BUT ------
This is an exciting (if over the top) thriller in an interesting police procedural series from Germany, but there's a problem: only some of the series is available in English, and what's available isn't in order. According to "Goodreads", there are seven novels in the series. Four are available in English. This ond,"The Ice Queen, is number three: "Snow White Must Die" is number four, "Bad Wolf" number six, "I Am Your Judge" number seven. That means that the first two novels in the series are not available, and that's big weakness. The same two detectives (Pia Kirchoff and Oliver Bodenstein) are the central characters in all the novels, and their lives change over time. Missing the starting point is a bother, as is reading about later events (in "Snow White Must Die") before earlier ones (in "The Ice Queen") . It was all too easy to do, since "Snow White" was the first of the series to appear in English. True compulsives may want to avoid the series until the whole thing is available in English.
Those who are less compulsive, and want a compelling read, give it a try. The story begins with the murder of an elderly gentleman believed to be a Holocaust survivor, who turns out to be something rather different: a former SS official. Our detectives are told very firmly to stay very far away from this case: strings are clearly being pulled by powerful people. But when another murder follows -- also of a former SS official -- the case can't be kept off limits. A wealthy and aristocratic family, it becomes clear, is deeply involved, and murder follows murder. Like "Snow White Must Die", this was a hard book to put down, which means that it meets my first requirement for a thriller. It's not, however, as good a book, in my view, as "Snow White Must Die", largely because the story goes so far over the top.

    good vs evil
Reading Gemini took me back to my earliest days of reading horror in the late 80's and 90's, when authors cared more about plot and character development than shock and awe, back when horror meant more than whatever shtick is in vogue that day. Eberle has brought one of the oldest tropes of all time (i.e., good vs evil, light vs dark) to life in an original and well-developed story that makes the subject matter feel fresh and new. His characters are well-developed and suck you in emotionally so that you are vested enough to want to keep reading, and the plot is paced to a point where you can't put the book down. You want to root for Justine and you want to know what happens to her.
But not only is Gemini a great work of horror, it is just plain and simple a great piece of writing in general. Eberle's descriptive imagery and the way he frames each scene seems to ooze off the page with such ease that fellow writers should take notes. As a first novel, it is amazingly well put together and balanced. If it is any indication of future writing, Eberle is on his way to great things, and I for one look forward to reading more.

    A very interesting g read.
I'm giving this novel five stars, even though there were some glaring spelling errors and grammatical mistakes. The reason for five stars is the concept of this novel is somewhat new and rather different than other horror novels. I kind of liked that. There are some things I would change if I were editing this book, but that's just me and doesn't in any way change the story. I'd certainly recommend it to others, and will look for other books by this author. Good job to the author!
Like a freight train through a mountain of blood.
Gemini takes me back to my days in school reading Stephen King and Clive Barker for the first time, when Horror was new and brutal and terrifying and made you squirm in your seat.
