    Title: The Mark of Halam
Subtitle: A Jeff Bradley Thriller, Book 2
    Author: Thomas Ryan
    Narrator: Simon Mattacks
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 8 hrs and 57 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 06-06-17
    Publisher: Brilliance Audio
Ratings: 5 of 5 out of 2 votes
    Genres: Mysteries & Thrillers, Suspense
    Publisher's Summary:
USS Ulysses: State-of-the-art nuclear submarine. Deterrent. Target.
When an Olympic medalist is the subject of an attempted assassination, former SAS trooper Jeff Bradley knows his past is once again casting a shadow over his new life. A note left by the assassin confirms his suspicions: Bradley made an enemy back in Kosovo, and the man is out for revenge. But Jeff knows the killer is not working alone: higher up the ranks sits Avni Leka, a terrorist warlord who will stop at nothing to achieve his bloody goal.
And it's not just Bradley who is under threat. A hijacking leads him to sense something bigger is being planned - a plot that, if successful, will end thousands of innocent lives, and could light the touchpaper of global conflict.
He can't allow it to happen. But events are spiraling out of control. Bradley knows he must reach the eye of the storm before it tears his world apart.

    A Slow Mover!
The plot in this story seems to go on forever before anything of consequence occurs. There is a lack of urgency throughout, and protests about a nuclear submarine's visit are hardly the stuff of world crises. The action scenes are good, especially the climax, but I would liked to have seen more. The cover of this book is misleading, in that by picturing a submarine it leads the reader to expect a sub-warfare story. Not so! The submarine puts in a cameo appearance that doesn't add too much to the plot. While not a blockbuster, the book offers a pleasant read, but could use some spicing up.
    Strong, credible and exciting
Thomas Ryan has acquired a reputation as an excellent author of thrillers, and it is a reputation that is well-deserved. This novel is a worthy addition to his increasing list of novels. He draws and develops his characters with depth. The authorâs knowledge and experience of military practices, gleaned from his time in the armed forces and from the input of military veterans he knows, plays a role in forming the background for the tale, but I think credit should also be given to his extensive research of his subject matter. These elements make his story strong, credible and exciting. It is a page-turner with a fast pace and several facets to the storyline, yet it always remains approachable and easy to follow. I was drawn into the action from the start.
Jeff Bradley and Brian Cunningham, both ex-Special Forces veterans, battle against time and personal enemies to prevent terrorists causing mayhem in Auckland, New Zealand. It is refreshing to find an adventure thriller set in a country like New Zealand, and since I am in the UK I felt very much at home with the lively atmosphere, the banter and the believable interaction between the main characters and the journalist, Barbara Heywood, and the police officer, Moana Te Kanawa, with whom they have to work or sometimes hold at armâs length.
I did find I was drawn to Brian Cunningham rather than Jeff Bradley, as the more flawed personality, but that was my personal choice and the flaws and quirks of all the characters are portrayed in a natural way. On the whole a very satisfying read and more than deserving of a five star rating.
Ok, but I wouldn't recommend buying it
I expect a good book to have either detailed plot development, or substantial character development.

Twee-tastic.. I cannot understand any hype for this
given the blurb I'd expected something quite hefty, atmospheric & absorbing..wrong!
The narrator couldn't be more MissMarple in mode & tone, all sounded incongruous.
For me the storyline was banal with a small & ludicrously stereotyped & poorly-drawn cast of characters in there.

"Yesterday Lost" is written in the style of Dame Agatha Christie. Lorena McCourtney is an exceptionally talented writer!
My wife, Renee, and I have enjoyed reading all of Ms. McCourtney's books, including her most recent novel. "Yesterday Lost." is a departure from her humorous writings, such as the incomparable Ivy Malone series. Her latest book is a mystery which brings to mind the late Dame Agatha Christie. Lorena McCourtney has an extraordinary talent for creating interesting characters and compelling storylines. And her descriptive passages, second to none, make them all come alive and memorable. As in all of her books, she weaves in her strong Christian beliefs, which make her books even more special. Congratulations, Ms. McCourtney, on your continuing successful career as an exceptionally talented writer!... and thank you for providing us, and so many appreciative readers, with books we can enjoy, and learn from, and be inspired by. We look forward to reading all of your books to come.
    Great Story!!
A great story from a great story teller!! I could not put it down! Ms McCourtney has some great books out there and I would recommend all of them to anyone who enjoys a good mystery without a lot of sex and violence. I just wish she would write more of the Ivy Malone books since I enjoy them most of all.
A Read Into The Night Book!
I just finished this book. I gave up a Sunday nap because I could not go to sleep until I found out was happened to Kat. Such a wonderful blend of mystery, romance, and something much, much deeper. Ms. McCourtney is the such a good writer. I've loved her Ivy books for years and more recently discovered Andi and Cate series and loved them also. BUT Yesterday Lost, a stand alone novel, might just be my favorite after Invisible. Buy this book.
    An intriguing read!
Enjoyed this story more than I expected to.

Short Techno-Thriller Rivals Full Length Novel!
This fast paced techno-thriller may be short, but delivers an action packed, thought provoking plot with intense pulse pounding moments, humor and interesting characters. It has all the classic elements for a awesome thriller, kidnappings, double crossing, computer hacking, and a devious plot, but also adds in refreshing twists, drones and a couple of unlikely heroes.
I find audios under five hours can be hit or miss, and this was a hit! For a short story, Lincoln Cole delivered a well written plot that rivals full length novels. I loved how Lincoln took the concept of a drone hi-jacking to use in an attack and ran with it. Drones are becoming increasingly popular, and it's a little scary, and not too far fetched to imagine this new technology being used to carry out attacks. This story follows several different characters. Two team up in an unconventional way to work together to stop a group of mercenaries from obtaining their goal. It's fast paced, never dull, and has great characters. Kate was my favorite, I loved all her dry humor.
The narration was fantastic! The editing wasn't a 100% perfect; however, Stephanie Dillard's performance was stunning, lively, had a great pace, brought each word to life, and she nailed all the accents!
I received this audio in exchange for an honest review. Overall, it's a great audio, fast paced, well worth the time, and an awesome KU/whispersync deal!
    Fast Paced! Action Packed!!
This story may be on the shorter side but it's packed full of action, fast paced, and never a dull moment! Lincoln Cole doesn't waste anytime getting to the point with this one and grabs the listener right from the start. The story follows several characters and groups as each have their own agenda, some more evil than others. Kate our lead character has been doubled crossed but is determined to stop them. She was tough as nails, smart and hilarious! I loved all her witty sarcastic remarks.
Stephanie Dillard did a great job with the narration and brought the story to life.
This story was surprisingly better than I expected and very entertaining to listen too. I received this audio in exchange for an honest review.
A fairly short action packed book

Excellent audio book brings thriller to life
This is the first audiobook I've heard and Rebecca Ortese skillfully brings to life Duncan Ralston's thriller. Set in Alaska, the book's plot races forward with each event further fleshing out compelling characters who illustrate a collision of two ways of life and belief systems. It's hard not to root for Bo Lowery, a single mom making a living for her 8-year-old son Caleb by hunting for food and selling the remaining parts of the animals. When she is making a delivery to a general store, a profane and entitled pop singer Rainey Layne, in town to protest the wolf cull, confronts her and events are set in motion. As we learn more about the characters and their backgrounds, things become more complicated and the ending is both surprising and inevitable. There is some graphic violence that is appropriate to the story. Duncan Ralston is a talented writer, with excellent pacing and descriptive abilities. Rebecca Ortese does a masterful job narrating, nailing accents and tone from Bo's Louisiana twang to the East Texas drawl of Rainey's bodyguard Darius. She is effective in distinguishing varied ages from twenty-something Rainey to 8 year-old Caleb. Her skill allows the voices to deepen the characters and her clear diction really enlivens the story and makes for easy listening. I highly recommend the audio book for a visceral experience of this satisfying thriller.

A very good fast paced thriller
Every Part of the Animal is a very good, fast paced thriller revolving around a woman and her son and the lengths that she is willing to go to keep him protected from threats real or imagined. Or both.
I wont give away any spoilers, but the narration for this one fit the story very well and I thought really added to the overall feel of the story.
