Nice listen.

This was the book that began david baldacci's writing career and you can see why he is one of the best at what he does. Great action thrillers. I was so happy to see that audible finally had this book to download. Scott does another great job of narrating this book. If you want a good listen then this is the book for you.

Good story but...

Scott bricks narration was excellent as always and the story was good, however the daughter of Luther Whitney was so irritating that I almost gave up on the book every time she entered the story. I also could have done without the flag waving and orchestra at the end. A real shame.

Excellent read to a fantastic story

The best read book I have ever had the pleasure to listen to. Scott Brick is an excellent narrator and he brought the story to life with all its emotions and twists as only David Baldacci could bring to put to pen and paper.

Absolute Power

Love all David Baldacci books, this was a good as all the others. This I believe was his first book and it is excellent.

great thriller.

great murder mystery story, intriguing twists and turns. very well read and performed. loved it. Couldn't stop listening

returning as disliked so much

The storyline was not good enough to pull me through the dreadful narration by Hannah Murray. Never before have I heard anyone who simultaneously managed to gabble and drawl all at the same time. I found it so bad I was unable to make it through to the end. Emilia Fox was fine, but oh dear - no more Hannah Murray for me!

Mostly enjoyable story and a great plot twist

A good story but it took a while to get going. I almost gave up on this as it got very dreary in the middle. I persevered because I'm reluctant to leave things unfinished, the setting was a familiar one to me (a very British seaside town) and I was drawn back to some of the characters. I thought I'd guessed the ending but I was wrong, and then very wrong! Some reviewers have observed that the ending was too convenient but I thought it was quite clever.

The narration was good, it needed the two different voices, though the male voices didn't come across too well.

I can't listen !

I am sure the story is really good, but sadly the narrator, who has a lovely speaking voice, speaks like she is talking to a not terribly bright child. I tried gtitting my teeth, but it was (in my opinion) so irritating that I couldn't listen to it. my advice - it may not bother you, but listen to a clip first.

Gripping!!!

What a gripping read! So good to listen to, lots of twists in the tale. Highly recommend!!

Excellent thriller

Really enjoyed this book. Narration was spot on and easy to listen to.

Too often American thrillers can be overlong,overwritten and badly in need of the blue pencil, however this novel was beautifully judged - I really felt for our hero and although I guessed some of the main plot, still found the denouement interesting and exciting. I'm looking forward to reading other books by this author.

Love these books!!

This book kept me entertained the whole way through. This writer is able to vary every book so much that not one is the same and never dull. Can't wait for the next one!!!

The youthful sounding Élodie

I only mention the youthfulness of the narrator's voice because I am still learning French. So having the voice of a 63 year old character in the book read by someone as youthful sounding as is Élodie's, it took some getting used to. In comparison, I was simultaneously using an English version of the book, also available on audible.com for the translation. The English version's reader was deftly able to reproduce the exact sounding fit for the Dolores Claiborne character.

I really like this series.

This book gave the reader more insight into Sterling. I was disappointed in the interaction with Carlos and Jules and the way Jules treated Thomas. I missed not having the rest of the Torte team involved in the plot.

Alexander Does It Again - Every Bit As Good as The First Two

Itâs been many years since I experienced a blizzard and reading On Thin Icing had me shivering and very happy that I live in the desert. Alexanderâs descriptions of the miserable weather makes you feel as if you are there â be it in the kitchen with the power threatening to go out, trying to keep warm while sleeping in an unheated cabin, or walking knee deep in fresh snow. I was as surprised as Jules to find her estranged husband, Carlos, making an unexpected visit. The tension between Carlos, the romantic Spaniard, and Thomas, the local no-nonsense detective, is so thick it could be cut with one of Julesâ bread knives. The descriptions of wines were enough to cause drooling, and of course, the food is to die for. Thank you, Ellie, for the recipe for Orange Cardamom Rolls. I will be trying them soon. As with any really good mystery, everything (well, almost everything) was wrapped up by the end, but we are left to wonder what will happen between Jules and Carlos. The idea of waiting months for the next installment is almost painful. Once again, a fabulous read!

The Damaged

This was a book I could hardly put down,even through the gorey bits.Rob Goll does a fine job with character voices.When Matthew was a child he saw his parents murdered by a tramp.He is released 25 years later from a mental institution with instructions for home care personnel to make sure he takes his pills.Through his masterful deceit he forgoes them causing a lengthy breakdown that takes its toll on his care workers,vagrants and anyone that gets in his way.

I was given this book for an honest review.

A Fascinating and Disturbingly Dark Read!!

Simon Law is a New to me author.I found this book to be both Fascinating and Disturbingly Dark. Fascinating because it does look pretty deep into the human psyche and how events in our lives can affect us, even years down the road.

Well written, multi layered, and packed with characters that are very well developed and believable, I had to walk away a time or two, set my tablet down, and process what was happening. This story has some serious triggers in it and may not be for everyone.The world is dark, consistent, and well developed, downright even scary at times. 25 years in a mental institution is not an easy pill to swallow.

Both Matthew and Tammy have some deep seated issues they are dealing with too. I don't use spoilers in my reviews, as they may ruin a read for someone.

The narrator did an amazing job of presenting each of the chararafters, there is no way I could not keep them consistent. Great Job!

This series places the reader/listener at the scene. The narrator is perfect.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

The more I listened to the story the more I wanted to know what was next.

Which character as performed by Simon Prebble was your favorite?

Of course, Benjamin Cooker. But Virgil is a terrific counter to him.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The final pay-off at the end - the resolution of some key deaths and crimes was very clever.

Any additional comments?

Very worried about Benjamin Cooker. He seems to have too many fainting spells and cold sweats. He can't keep eating those rich foods and smoking those Cuban cigars forever!

Mark Angelotti's triumphant return

Lynne Raimondo's second Mark Angelotti novel (following her outstanding debut "Dante's Wood") finds the blind psychiatrist enrolled in a clinical study of a drug that could restore his sight. Mark becomes engaged as an expert witness in a legal case after an investigative reporter dies and the reporter's lover, high-powered attorney Jane Barrett, is charged with his murder. It turns out that Barrett was representing a mega-drug company of questionable ethics. Mark begins uncovering the truth about the murder, at great risk to himself and to his romantic interest, Hallie Sanchez, who's defending her friend Jane on the murder charges.

One of the many things I love about the Angelotti series is Raimondo's remarkable ability to credibly portray a blind sleuth -- a formidable task for a writer. In Dante's Poison, Mark's inability to see is critical to the plot but also organic and never obtrusive. More than that, the novel is a compelling mystery. Raimondo deftly ties several apparently distinct story threads together in a coherent, satisfying, and totally unexpected ending. And as with her first novel, Raimondo's writing is topnotch, often witty and often deadly serious. I highly recommend "Dante's Poison."

Totally enjoyable Chicago read! Raimondo's blend of detective intrigue, law, psychiatry and spot-on Chicago tone and location is an excellent ride. Mark Angoletti, the main character, solves crimes as he deals with his own disability and clients--- the way he navigates through his complicated life is fascinating. Angelotti has flaws and demons; he also has heart and heightened perceptions that make for a complex character who develops as the plots evolve. Looking forward to more from Lynne Raimondo!
