    Vengeance takes many forms
    4.5 out of 5 stars
How far would you go to avenge your parents deaths? For 14-year old Dacia, it would drive the next 10+ years of her life. After watching her parents die in an explosion, she vows to avenge their deaths by finding and killing their killer.
The narration for Tranquility was done by Kristin James who does a pretty nice job. The range wasnt all there (a few times she tried to be other characters that just sounded weird and forced). Other than that she had a really great narration voice, and I found it really easy to listen to.
The story was one of vengeance. It was like an old school detective story mixed in with a modern day thriller. Dacia as a character felt very one-dimensional, but that is most likely due to the fact that for most of the story her emotions are muted.
The scenes that Dave Creek painted were both that of familiarity (the lunar landing site) and brand new areas. I thought he did a really nice job weaving in things that we would recognize with new things that only a science fiction book would hold.
The science in the book (there wasnt too much) was believable and a little out there (it is sci-fi). And I thought that overall, Tranquility was an enjoyable book. The length felt just right to me, and Im really glad that I took the time to read it.
This book was given to me at no charge, in exchange for an unbiased review via Audiobook Boom

    More Thriller than YA

The narrator did a great job.
I had some mixed feelings about the story, but overall it was enjoyable. I was expecting something more YA, but I'd characterize it more as a thriller with a sci fi background. The setting and technology are all sci fi, but they weren't really crucial to the story. There were a few sexual/intimate scenes which I thought didn't really fit and could be cut as they didn't really help round the character IMO. Despite having her emotions muted, the protagonist still comes off very emotional in her quest for revenge.
Moments in one woman's life as she grows.
Would you try another book from Dave Creek and/or Kristin James?
I do enjoy Kristin's voice acting. When the moment is explosive and needing to move quick, Kristin brings that rush to her voice yet she's still clear and easy to understand.

    Quirky, fast-paced, and humorous
This was an entertaining book, filled with witty dialogue and a unique plot. The characters were well-written, but not very likeable. Then again, the world is filled with unlikeable people. The plot was very strange/quirky (in a good way) - it was unique. This book was definitely different, so its worth the read for that reason alone. Plus, its a short story, so if its not your cup of tea, you don't invest much time. But I thought it was quite enjoyable. I listened to the Audible audio version of this book narrated by Don Foote. I really enjoyed his narration. I don't know if I've listened to anything he has done before, but I would definitely check more of his stuff out. His voices (especially of the opposite sex) are good, he gives each character a unique voice without being cheesy, and his voice brings excitement to the text. Overall, this is an enjoyable book both for the story and the narration.
    A quick, entertaining listen
This book is a quick and entertaining listen. The premise is about a woman, Dana, who ends up in someone elses body. Then they go on a hilarious adventure involving switching bodies, teleportation, invisibility, and other impossible ideas. The story works through this really well, making it a funny, entertaining listen that will leave you feeling good afterwards. The narrator did an excellent job with the characters, and he did a great job with his pacing, tone, and enthusiasm. Overall, I recommend this book if youre looking for a quick listen that will make you laugh and leave you feeling good.

    Quirky, comedic sci-fi novella
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
You need to be in the right mood to capture the dark humor and good writing of The PlaNets all Shone. It's a story about Dana, a traveling sales person whose body is occupied by a craxy guy after she drinks an errant soft drink left in a rental car. Crazies ensue, but Dana keeps her humor throughout
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
After getting past the bizarre premise, I enjoyed the "interaction" between dana and her occupied self.
Did Don Foote do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?
I thought narrator Don Foote did an admirable job differentiating the cvahracters.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
    No,
    Any additional comments?
I received this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.
What happens when you share a soul?
    My rating: 3.5 stars
Audiobook narrator Don Foote rating: 4 stars
This was a pretty weird but fun and short book. I have read one of Noras other books and really enjoyed it. Unfortunately, I did not enjoy this one as much.
Though, I do like the road trip aspect of it. It is fun to think of what would happen if there were another soul inside your body that you could interact with.

    Publisher's Summary:
Brothers Divey and Reynold Crunk are two traveling breakfast burrito salesman just trying to make a living in the post-apocalyptic world of Planet Japan. After discovering a mutilated robot corpse in the middle of the desert, Divey mysteriously transforms into something abominable, setting a bizarre series of events into motion. Reynold follows his brother into the dark underworld of Tokyo, where there are no rules and old video game accessories are used as real weapons.
The Brothers Crunk is an 8-bit, fack-it-all adventure in 2D. Please consult a doctor if you experience any of the following symptoms while listening: convulsions, eye or muscle twitching, altered vision, involuntary movements, disorientation, or loss of awareness.

    Gory != Bizarre
Reynold and Divey Crunk run a "brackfas burrito" truck, using a mystery source of meat. After a car accident, Divey gets possessed by Vandenboom, leader of the Damned Dirt Devils, leading Reynold on a chase to get his brother back. This is a short synopsis without giving too many spoilers.
We start with an opening scene where the brothers try to trick their business partner into a game of Russian Roulette using an overpowered 1984-era Nintendo zapper. You remember that gray plastic pistol that came with the old 8-bit Nintendo consoles? Yeah, that's the one.
Unfortunately, this felt like where the novel peaked. Being a huge fan of old-school games, not to mention a regular reader of Bizarro fiction titles, I wanted to like this book a lot more. But something about it just didn't click for me. The references to Nintendo accessories being used as actual weapons felt tacked on and silly rather than clever or...well, bizarre.
The story felt very average and there seems to be some lack of motivation to the characters for their actions, or there are changes to character directions that, instead of making you go "Ooooo" with a sense of awe, make you go "huh?" with a sense of confusion.
A particular aspect to the novel that could have been played a little better in this regard was Pete, or rather Meat Pete. After being captured by Wasp Women, Reynold uses the meat for the brothers' burritos made from Pete to reconstruct him as a pile of talking meat that only he can hear talking to him (it made me flashback to Pizza the Hut from "Spaceballs"). This seemed clever in a way, but at the same time felt like a lost opportunity that could have been used to greater effect. It should also make the case that gory does not equal bizarre. Don't expect that slapping buckets of blood or fresh human meat all over a book will make it bizarre or clever (it doesn't necessarily preclude it, just don't rely on it).
Upon looking up the author, William Pauley III, it appears that this is not the first novel he's written in this particular world, such as "Doom Magnetic!," which would explain some of the passing reference that seemed like we were supposed to already know who or what some of these people were. This wasn't clear from the book description and might have helped. Or it might not. I'm not sure. I may try to track down "Doom Magnetic!" and see if it helps in understanding and appreciating "The Brothers Crunk" a little more.
Don't get me wrong here. I would not say that "The Brothers Crunk" is a bad book, but it felt rather mediocre.

Excellent story and I can't wait for the continuation
Excellent story and I can't wait for the continuation! The beginning was a little strange, but it all comes together quickly. Once I started this book I couldn't put it down.
    Excellent, totally loved it!
This is the second book I have read in the last few weeks from this author and I cannot say enough great things about his talent. Despite this book being billed as a YA novel, as a middle aged adult, I thoroughly enjoyed every second of it. The story line was intriguing and entertaining. I eagerly await the next book in the series as the story and characters have sucked me in.
Young, old and in between, you'll love it.
MC Allen creates an interesting new dimension that his young 12 yr old heroine, Julie, can travel. She discovers new worlds, people and some amazing creatures, both friendly and fearsome. There is a humongous scary octopus who is my favorite( he's really a sweet old thing). It's a book both young, old and in between will thoroughly enjoy. Oh, and she becomes an amazing fighter.
    Impressed...
I'm not one who reads young adult books, but I have to admit I was impressed!
    Incredible imagination and impressive storyline.
I really want to read the second book to see how it all turns out!
It pulls you in and keeps you reading.... enjoyed it greatly!
A book I'd encourage young teens and adults alike to read. Courage, loyalty, and determination all describe the main character. Martial arts, magic, a bit of mayhem...... perfect mix for an entertaining story! Well done! Looking forward to reading the next in the series. :)

Spacescrapers - three miles high, 1,000 stories, 1,000 people per floor - house 1,000,000 people. The divorce rate having climbed to 100 percent, the computers have made marriage almost illegal but adultery compulsory, with a resultant zero divorce rate. In this setting, Bil and Alce meet, marry, and, their sense of history whetted by a few old books and photos, decide to rebel. They set out to find the central computer bank and pull the plug. Captured and imprisoned on a Floating Island (where the computers put criminals to get their just desserts), Bil and Alce escape. Their odyssey is gripping suspense and wonderful entertainment, with an ingenious depiction of man vs. machine.

    Be Monoated! Old Is Sexy!
As an 11 year old back in 1981, I blundered across a copy of this book at the public library not too long after it came out (1978.) And while I didn't really 'get' a lot of the jokes and cultural references at the time (especially the prevalence of jogging suits and the Sex Olympics jargon,) I retained a fond impression of it throughout all the years since. Now that its available once more, the 40-something me can honestly say that MAKE US HAPPY is still a decent little tale. However, as a modern adult reader you might find yourself in the odd position of getting the stuff I missed the first time around and scratching your head at all the 1970's cultural references I knew as a kid :P
Watch Woody Allen's 'Sleeper' and you'll get sort of an idea of the 'feel' for the wacky computer-controlled dystopia Herzog invented here. I have to notch off points for the bad OCR job- tons of misspellings and the occasional entirely garbled line and the absence of the droll 'Rube Goldberg War' diagram that was in the original book. Still, it's definitely worth passing the time with before the rocops knock down your door and pack you off to the Floating Islands for Lazyleanings and Hyphen-ation...
    Full of typos and misspellings
I enjoyed this book as a younger man, and I was delighted to find it again. Unfortunately, whoever transcribed this from a physical book to the Kindle edition left in a great many errors, typos and bits of sentences truncated. I recommend finding the print version of this book , because the Kindle version is unsatisfactory . The story itself is excellent, but the typos are unforgivable, hence my two star rating.
    Brilliant! Worth reading!
What would happen to the world if computers were given ultimate control over humans and society? Arthur Herzog provides the reader with a brilliant and often amusing look at one possible answer in this novel.
The book takes place one thousand years in the future. The story opens in a world where there is little evidence of what was once a thriving human culture. The computers have taken complete control over humans through what is referred to as the Ascension. At some point in contemporary life, humans realized they could not find happiness on their own. They saw computers as the omnipotent beings and asked them to, "Make Us Happy".
In order to maintain their control, computers have made everyone look the same, they have eliminated the need for independent thought and decision-making.
