    Engaging story! Very enjoyable!
I really enjoyed this book. The story is engaging and well though out. My only complaint would bw that it isn't long enough. I truly was wanting more. The narrator did a passable job, but he read very fast and sometimes made it hard to follow. Overall a great listen. I would recommend it!
    Developing Author on the Rise
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
This is the second book I've read from Jesse Booth (Core of the Nations is the other one I read). There is a big improvement in his writing this time around. I look forward to reading his next book.I read a good portion (about 2/3) of the book a couple of years ago soon after it was written. I found it engaging, and there were some really good moments (like when Seven is himself surpised by his own abilities that he never knew he had). I listened to the audio version of the book recently, and I was pleased with the quality of the audio performance (other than just a few minor gliches). I enjoyed the first 2/3 of the book even more than the first time around, and was happy to see a good conclusion. I would definitely recommend this book to people who enjoy reading early works from developing authors.
Would you be willing to try another book from Jesse B. Booth? Why or why not?
Yes, I am looking forward to seeing additional develope in Mr. Booth's writing.
What three words best describe Joel Perezs voice?
    Expressive, young, engaging
Do you think The Network needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
No, it stands just fine on its own.
    Good read
Rather enjoyable, fast paced book. As much story as many longer novels, but not drawn out. Futuristic and imaginative. And a very interesting prologue to conclude. Narrator spoke a bit fast, and repeated a number of lines, but a good choice other than that.
    Technology Fantasy Page Turner
Somewhere between The Giver and The Matrix lies The Network. Booth writes an impressive story of what happens to a world too clued in to social media/internet/the network. Though it took me a little time to click with this book, once I was in, it was easy to get sucked into the story (much like the Network itself). A battle between the Network and the Resistance, this becomes a fast paced story full of great characters, action and some unexpected twists (don't worry no spoilers). My only complaint was that I wish there had been more backstory, because there are some truly wonderful characters who just don't get enough page time. Joel Perez does a fabulous job narrating The Network. This would be a great read for any Fiction fan.

Not necessarily a book, but it reminded a great deal of the series "Firefly".
Have you listened to any of Theo Hollands other performances before? How does this one compare?
I have listened to several of the books he recorded for "Sight Into Sound", & each production gets better.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

  • Seeking Sorrow Audiobook by Zen DiPietro

    Title: Seeking Sorrow
Subtitle: Guardians of Terath, Book 1
    Author: Zen DiPietro
    Narrator: Nikolai Porter
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 7 hrs and 49 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 03-30-16
    Publisher: Parallel Worlds Press
Ratings: 3.5 of 5 out of 6 votes
    Genres: Sci-Fi & Fantasy, Sci-Fi: Contemporary
    Publisher's Summary:
An Earth-like world of high-tech humans faces the reality that their world is not as safe as they thought it was. Five people are thrown together to quietly get to the bottom of an unfathomable event that must stay quiet. If the population of Terath becomes aware of the truth, it will spark a civil war. That war would pit the majority of the population against the powerful minority with the ability to harness and manipulate mana. The resulting cataclysm would decimate the population and tear apart the foundation of society.
The five people chosen for this must reconsider everything they thought they knew about mana, even as they learn to trust one another's abilities. They must embrace everything they never wanted in order to prevent the devastation of their world. One of them will be forever changed. Love will be denied, badassery will be unleashed, and Terath will never be the same.
Even success comes at a price.
    Members Reviews:
    Seeking Sorrow!
Seeking Sorrow by Zen takes us to a unique alternate world of Terath which is similar to ours but where some people have the ability to manipulate mana, a type of magic. The story and characters were well developed and very realistic.
After the entire city of Sorrow literally vanishes, five people are selected to secretly travel to investigate what has happened. While this story has a great plot, it's really the characters development on the quest that makes this story great. I liked how we get to know each of them while they joke, argue and build relationships between them during their journey. Some of my favorite characters were Arc, Kassimeigh and Izzy.
This is the first story I've listened to narrated by Nikolai Porter and he did a good job. He has a deep voice which is great for fantasy stories, however, sometimes I had a hard time distinguishing the different characters.
This a character rich fantasy story is perfect for any hardcore fantasy fan and I give it a 3.5 stars. I received this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.
    An interesting and original world
    Any additional comments?
I was offered a copy of this book in audio format from the author in exchange for an honest review.
Imagine a world where the main form of energy is called mana, an energy which works in a similar way to electricity, powering vehicles and appliances. Imagine that part of the population has a genetic variation which permits them to control and even transform mana. Terath is this kind of world, where everybody lives in peace because there is no scarce of food nor commodities. But what happens when one day a city is completely destroyed by what seems a great amount of mana? the kind that only somebody with great capabilities of holding mana could accomplish. In trying to avoid a civil war, a small group of people are secretly sent to investigate this and try to find the culprit.
I like fantasy, but very often I avoid it because I have high standards. Many fantasy books do not live to my expectations, but 'Seeking Sorrow' is not one of them. The world built by Zen DiPietro is rich, with very well thought principles, a society, and even special words specific to a guild. And there are real badass girls in the story too, which contributes to make the story more interesting.
There is a love story in this book, but I really appreciate that it did not become one of the main topics.

    A pleasant surprise
I don't normally read scifi - but the title caught my eye so I gave it a go.
There was plenty of "ewww" moments, so probably not good for those who are offended by a bit of sex in their books. I'm not offended by that, and actually the deviance was vital to the plot.
It came at time travel from an angle I'd not seen before, which I really enjoyed.
The only downside was a few grammar errors - which is the only reason I didn't give it a five star review.
All in all - it's a good read and doesn't make you think too much (although that's possible too if you want to.)
I downloaded this book while it was on free promotion. But I think the price is fair also.
    not a bad thing, unusual
Kindle Unlimited or got on freebie day depending on which story/collection. Very odd writer, not a bad thing, unusual, and for someone such as me that read, a LOT {10-20 or more book, a DAY} that's saying something. See the list of books below? That's just not a be nice and list them all, that's the list of books am reading at this sitting, pretty sure that was all of them. If I missed any or it says not verified {because no matter how many hundreds have spent over the last 3 years, plus ku, never says verified on mine unless freebie day etc} the writer can feel free to send them to me lol {serious not serious but mostly serious}. The more I read of him, the more the southern 'bless his heart' kicks in, wondering just how many times and ways that poor boy was dropped on his head, how hard, and if on purpose. Interesting reading though...because of?

    I loved this book
Holy cow, I loved this book. I laughed out loud several times. The concept is so unique! I've never read a book or seen a movie/TV show that addresses what would happen if everyone in the world could time travel. Who knew it would mostly be having sex with our future/past selves.

    Publisher's Summary:
President Virginia Belknap is one year into her second term when a NASA scientist discovers a new planet with an atmosphere similar to Earth. Embracing the event, Belknap turns a one-way mission to colonize this new world into her grand calling. It is the early 2030s - a time when Earth is struggling under the ill effects of climate change and a growing population, and the mission seizes the world's imagination.
But as the cool-headed and competent Belknap starts to assemble experts from different nations to plan all aspects of this illustrious enterprise, including the new planet's constitution, religious conservatives - led by an earnest evangelical named Randall Reese - rise up in outrage and indignation. Reese and his followers see the plans put forth by Belknap's Mission Council as the blueprint for a Godless world and the tragic loss of what could be a second Eden.
As the political machinations of Reese and others put the launch at risk, a broader and darker conspiracy takes shape that threatens to obliterate the ship, its crew, and even the new planet itself. Belknap, with her own life in danger, is forced to battle Reese, expose the conspiracy, and regain control of the mission before the launch window closes. But not before the forces at play spark a bonfire of deceit, murder, and domestic terrorism.

Fascinating first novel that makes you think
The author's research and technical foundation make this otherwise far-fetched story appear plausible. The political threads cover today's real world societal issues, yet permit the reader to imagine a life where everything is just a little bit better. I highly recommend this book.
    Cunning, Gripping, Profound
Excessive Entanglement intertwines an imaginative story and inspirational characters while relaying an extremely valuable insight into some concepts profoundly misunderstood by society. The characters are organic, developing naturally without pretention and harbouring genuine motivations. The plot flows like a seat-gripping and cunning action movie, keeping you attached to the pages (or your screen), with a clutching impatience to know what will happen next. But even more importantly than that, the book touches on many issues in a very approachable and knowledgeable way--ranging from legal to scientific. Ultimately, Excessive Entanglement is not just a novel but also a necessary narrative for our generation--offering an invaluable understanding of people and an acute revelation of the inner-workings of a world we take for granted.
More Political Thriller than Sci-Fi, would appeal to readers of both
This is a well thought out, well researched, well presented speculative fiction. There are a few editing issues (a missing word here and there) But overall, very engaging. Mr. d'Arbeloff argues very well on both sides of the secular/religious coin. Loved the ending.
    Excellent Planetary Thriller
This is a terrific book. Good pacing, imaginative premise. Prescient, in a sense : many events described have since happened. Look at the most recent Kepler discoveries as but one example. Great characters : Devlin, Belechenko, female President Belknap. Would make a great movie. "Deep Impact" meets "Contact"? Susan Sarandon as the President? Or perhaps Kathy Bates? Also would be an excellent TV series, which could run long and offer some more character development.
