    Publisher's Summary:
A lie is the only thing that can get 20-year-old Harry Himelbaum past the cold scrutiny of Ellis Island's immigration official, Will Brown. A lie that locks them in a deadly battle.
It is 1929. At home, economic depression and dust storms ravage America, and abroad the goose step of Nazism is intensifying. Widespread fear of the "other" has reached a fever pitch. Against this tumultuous backdrop, two families share the spotlight in this sweeping saga: the Himelbaums of Poland and the Browns of Iowa. All Harry Himelbaum wants is to live somewhere happy and to send for the wife and child he must deny having. But Will Brown stands in the way. Will is a young, zealously patriotic Iowa lawyer who has dedicated himself staunchly to upholding the nation's laws and keeping his America pure. Little does he expect that his childhood sweetheart and new wife, Barbara, would form a romantic attachment with Harry, the man he's sworn to keep out.
Based on the true story of the author's father, this heart-wrenching clash of love and loyalties is a picture of an America torn between being a symbol of hope for immigrants and a proud nation fighting to re-create itself.

    Terrific book!
Where does A Tale of Two Citizens rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
Quite high. It carries the reader through 15 years of two men, loosely intertwined; one man defending his country against an influx of immigrants, and another man forced to lie about his unexpected family circumstances to gain entry to the USA. Characters are all complex, with intricate motivations for their decisions.
Ochlan's narration takes a bit of getting used to, but he embodies his characters, male and female, Polish and American.
What was one of the most memorable moments of A Tale of Two Citizens?
There are many. This book is filled with moments of hope, of despair, of longing and disgrace.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
    Finding Home
    Any additional comments?
I loved this book! The prologue seems quite unnecessary to the story itself, but I found myself glued to its audio pages, knowing what history would hold for both the USA in the 30s and Poland in the late 30s and early 40s. Loved it!

    Title: Autism, Amalgam and Me
    Subtitle: Jodi's Journey Continues
    Author: Jean Shaw
    Narrator: Jean Shaw, Beau Bridgland
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 4 hrs and 28 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 11-11-14
    Publisher: Jean Shaw
Genres: Bios & Memoirs, Personal Memoirs
    Publisher's Summary:
Autism Amalgam and Me - Jodi's Journey Continues is the second in a series of books about my son Jodi Shaw, and the often humorous and informative true story deals with two subjects - autism and mercury poisoning caused by dental amalgam. Narrated as if by Jodi and myself, I explain why I think my son developed autism and you'll discover why my research points to mercury. Discussions with others suffering from mercury poisoning from dental amalgam and vaccine damage led me to connect dental work during pregnancy as well as toxic preservatives in childhood vaccines being contributory factors. I explain how the strange, problematic and worrying health symptoms I suffered were linked to my amalgam fillings, the tests I took to get diagnosed, the safe chelation protocol I followed to remove mercury and other heavy metals, plus my dramatic health improvements after the amalgam fillings were removed. I'll reveal despite never having any dental work, Jodi had more mercury inside his body than I did when tested, and the only way he could have got it was through me during pregnancy and via his childhood vaccines. Jodi also took chelation and has improved tremendously, but still has autism.
You'll learn how the vaccine schedule for infants has changed over the years, the contents of vaccines, how they are made, and why many people believe autism could be a form of mercury poisoning! You'll also be introduced to Bryan Tootal and discover how a gold crown and an amalgam filling almost cost him his life. Since then, he and wife Pam have educated many people about the dangers of amalgam fillings Bryan's true story, vast anecdotal evidence from other sufferers, and the professional research and opinion included in this book will educate and inform you about autism and mercury poisoning. You can then decide whether I've made a case as to why my son Jodi has autism, and whether I really deserve the nickname I've been given of "Sherlock Shaw"!

    Narrator: Kyle Tait
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 1 hr and 5 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 10-20-14
    Publisher: R. Barri Flowers
    Genres: Bios & Memoirs, Criminals
    Publisher's Summary:
From award-winning criminologist R. Barri Flowers and the best-selling author of Murder of the Banker's Daughter and Murder at the Pencil Factory comes a powerful new historical true crime short, The "Gold Special" Train Robbery: Deadly Crimes of the D'Autremont Brothers.
On a Thursday night on October 11, 1923, the Southern Pacific Railroad Express Train Number 13, called the Gold Special was ambushed as it headed through the Siskiyou Mountains of Southern Oregon and into the Siskiyou Tunnel from Seattle en route to San Francisco.
The bandits, in search of gold and cash, used dynamite and gunfire to murder four crew members before fleeing in an explosive crime of greed and violence reminiscent of Old West style train robberies.
With law enforcement stymied in their attempts to identify and apprehend the killers, they turned to American criminologist Edward Oscar Heinrich to help crack the case. Often been compared to fictional British detective Sherlock Holmes, Heinrich's early forensic detective work led to identifying the culprits as brothers, Ray, Roy, and Hugh D'Autremont, loggers who fancied themselves as Jesse and Frank James like outlaws.
Often referred to as the Last Great Train Robbery, the story of the D'Autremont brothers' daring attempted heist, dramatic escape, and years on the lam before finally being brought to justice are chronicled in the pages of The Gold Special Train Robbery.
Bonus material includes excerpts from best-selling true crime shorts by R. Barri Flowers, Murder of the Banker's Daughter, Murder at the Pencil Factory, and the author's international best-selling true crime book, The Sex Slave Murders.
Selected as one of Suspense Magazine's Best of 2011 books. (John Raab, CEO/Publisher on The Sex Slave Murders by R. Barri Flowers).

    WOW
In the second paragraph of the Publisher's summary they get the trains origin, destination and name wrong. I will bet it is only the beginning of nonfiction fiction.

Length: 3 hrs and 41 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 11-27-13

    Publisher's Summary:
John Martin's sense of adventure would lead him to achieving goals in life that many of us only dream about. Cycling around New Zealand's East Cape as a 13-year-old boy, and being part of the first BASE jump in New Zealand were just some of these. Other incidents such as getting booed off the stage while playing in the back-up band at a "Split Enz" concert, would shape the character of the person he became. The strength of this character would be tested when his Cessna Ag Wagon crop dusting aircraft crashed and burned, resulting in John receiving third degree burns to 70% of his body, face and hands.
His story is not one of sadness and self-pity. The humorous and entertaining way he tells his tale makes this story, not just one of determination and courage, but a reminder to us all that sometimes "laughter is the best medicine." From this audiobook you will receive both inspiration and motivation. John's rise up from the ashes to return to flying and running a successful Tandem Skydiving business, is a testament as to what a positive attitude can do. As his story unfolds, the listener will chuckle their way through the chapters as they are taken on a journey into what makes us all tick. The spirit of a person that refuses to let even the most horrendous of life's challenges hold him back, shines through.

Title: The Case of Charles Whitman
    Author: Steven G. Carley
    Narrator: Steven G. Carley
    Format: Unabridged
    Length: 23 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 11-20-13
    Publisher: SGC Production
Ratings: 3 of 5 out of 2 votes
    Genres: Bios & Memoirs, Criminals
    Publisher's Summary:
The Case of Charles Whitman discusses the life of Charles Whitman and the events leading to his murderous rampage from the university clock tower. Whitman would seem to lead a privileged life as a high-school baseball player, military member, and college student awarded scholarship. Over time, Whitman's life would seem to crumble with his disinterest in church, his parents' divorce, losing his scholarship, even his deteriorating health. No one has an excuse for such actions - but perhaps Whitman would have more of a reason than most others.
The biological causes of Whitman's action would seem to propel his behavior. Still one may assume the victims' families will never forgive Whitman for his actions.
    Members Reviews:
    Poorly written
There aren't very many books out there about Charles Whitman so I appreciate that Carley wrote this book. However, it seriously needs an editor. There are grammatical errors, sentences that are hard to understand because they aren't written clearly, and no transitions at all between each piece of information.
Lastly, there is only one source or reference listed at the end. Is this book just a list of information from one other book?
Overall I was disappointed but was glad I only spent a dollar.
    An Extremely Brief Review
This is an okay and extremely brief look at Charles Whitmans life and crime. The cliff notes if you will. I would recommend this to anyone who was interested but not sure about reading a full autobiographical work to start out and see where they wanna go from there. I read a lot of true crime and read this based on the fact that there really is very little written about him other that his act in various true crime books that detail various killers and their actions. Not bad by any stretch but not great either.
    Short and to the point
This is a short, term paper-like read; read in a short sitting. In many ways it reminded me of a big police report. Just enough history and background to bring the reader into a comfortable understanding of CW and his actions in the Tower. Most of the information is known but I did catch two facts I did not know. I liked it.
    The Case of Charles Whitman
I was looking for further information about Charles Whtman for a bookclub presentation on "Monday, Monday". I was shocked at the poor guality of the grammar in this book. I learned nothing new, except to read reviews before purchasing books.
