Compelling story but very poorly written

While I very much appreciate the story of Sandy's life and all she went through, as a reader who highly values well written literature I cannot give it more than three stars (and even that is being generous). I give Sandy ten stars for overcoming the trauma and abuse that life heaped on her and for all she is doing now to help other children. But her story was so poorly written, so filled with grammatical, punctuation and spelling errors that it became a chore for me to read. The exclamation points at the end of every other sentence (it seemed) were so distracting and unnecessary. Each one felt like a rock was being hurled at my brain. I don't know if these issues exist in the printed books but the Kindle edition was absolutely rife with errors. One chapter was titled "Innocents Lost" when it should have been "Innocence Lost". In one sentence she meant to use the word "embarrassed" but instead used the word "embraced". The word "bedroom" was always "bed room". "Classmates" was "class mates". And the examples go on and on, from each and every page. I'm all for people publishing their own books but I really wish they would learn how to write first or at least invest in a good editor. Or would it have been too much to have someone, anyone with a decent education, proofread the manuscript first? I'm so glad I didn't spend over twenty dollars on the hard copy. If it reads like the Kindle version it is simply shameful to charge that kind of money for it.

Sandy's Miracle

Sandy's Miracle is a very compelling and insightful story. It draws attention to circumstances that are often swept under the rug because the victims believe they have nowhere to turn for help, or else they have no idea how to go about finding help. The sad thing is, the people who should be protecting And nurturing these children are often the ones who are hurting them. I think it's wonderful that Patsy was able to overcome the negative circumstances in her lift and use her experiences to help these most vulnerable members of our society.

Amazing story of HOPE

I was moved to tears of sadness and tears of joy all throughout this book. I would recommend this book to anyone that works with children to be aware that this is a very real problem. I would also recommend this book to anyone who has been the victim of child abuse. Patsy offers hope to the reader not only by sharing her story but by doing so also helps others to see that they are more than what happened to them and Hope for strength to persevere.

Someone will be blessed and empowered by this book.

Very good book that really gets you thinking.

I wasnât sure what to expect from this book. In the beginning I wasnât so sure I was going to follow through and read the whole thing but I didnât give up on it and Iâm glad I didnât.

I loved hearing others opinions about marriage, being single or Iâll call it âattached but at a distance.â Iâm going through some tough times in my marriage right now and I have 3 children ages 13, 11 & 9. Sometimes Iâm not sure if Iâm right side up or upside down. Iâm not sure what to do. It was nice to read of others and their experiences and their opinions. Really got me thinking.

Great book for reflection. Absolutely wonderful for that. And itâs a great book whatever your relationship status is.

Highly recommend.

Gifted Storyteller Writes a Great Book

I grew up in the same era in the South as the author of "Dancing on Mars", Lucinda Shirley. As matter of fact, she is my cousin. Most people find it easier to "judge" their relatives with what they believe is true. And it's usually not positive since being blood already means you love them, right? :-) Having said that, please read this review because now you know it has to be true!

I found "Dancing on Mars" to be a powerful book and the author to be incredibly brave. We are taught from a young age how special we are and everything good is praised. Our parents were incredibly strong but sadly many could only maintain that strength through denial of many perceived negatives. Worrying about what others thought seemed normal until we got older; and then few of us had the courage to write a book that so bravely laid it all out like the Saturday laundry pinned on the clothesline to dry. BUT Lucinda Shirley did just that and she did it with the same gift of storytelling that I remember her having all of my life. I always loved to be around Lucinda and listen to her stories. She had such great humor and an amazing quick wit. Even the sound of her voice had a quality that I can't describe but it kept me mesmerized for hours. Although I didn't recognize it at the time, I Iook back now and see the great substance that was also in her stories. What I found out in the book, is that she is also a gifted poet. This shouldn't surprise me because I always believed she wrote the best letters of anyone I knew.

"Dancing on Mars" touches on so many topics of interest, that I did not expect and don't want to spoil for you. So I'll just say that it was a wonderful read full of substance, humor, poetry and of course masterful storytelling! I hope this review will encourage you to read this fine book without my ruining any surprises for you with specific details. I highly recommend "Dancing on Mars" to you and to anyone else I run in to.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I have read quite a variety of books regarding Mob history. I was interested in listening to this one as it specifically stated it would be taking you through the life of Capone, PRIOR to "when he made it big".

The history was entertaining and engaging. The narrator was what made the book for me. He did an excellent job of narrating. I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it.

Insightful Read

An inspiring story of one woman's journey with the ability to look deeply inward after being diagnosed with malignant melanoma. Insightful of the author to understand the message the body sends when it is out of balance as an opportunity to explore the cause[s] and to work within herself in order to heal. One message this read offers is about the the body's innate ability to heal itself when given the opportunity and the will to look deeper within oneself. For those who understand quantum physics [healing] and the meaningful principles of Eastern healing, this story provides an excellent example of utilizing those principles to represent a treatment toward cause, rather than an attack on the messenger[the body]. Inspiring

I am usually a slow reader but finished this in a matter of hours. The writing style is relaxed as if you are talking to the author. She hits on many good points including "people pleasing" which I feel many of us suffer from. I was diagnosied with cancer last month and found this to be a helpful, inspiring and rewarding read. In trying to fight my cancer as much as possible before the tradational treatments (if in fact I go that route), I am reading everything I can on the subject. This book helps you deal with the "inside out fight" that the traditional treatments do not address. It's amazing what we can do to ourselves! Thanks Denise, for sharing your experiences. I feel I am in a better place after reading your book.

Inspiring

People do judge books by its cover. The title may sound depressing but it is NOT a depressing book! It is a very inspiring story by Denise who made positive changes in her life after cancer diagnosis. She has great tools to heal from the inside out. This book also makes you realize how we don't take the time to really take care of ourselves by recharging. I am blessed to know the author personally and she has been one of the best person in my life.

Hard to say about Christine Carr because I didn't get past the first chapter.

I feel bad because I don't really know how the book was because I couldn't get past the first chapter, the narration was to terrible and distracting. I've read reviews before about how people couldn't finish a book because of the narration and thought; well if the books great how much could that matter. Well this audio book answered it for me. There was no way I could even make it past the first chapter. Make me very leery about buying other audiobooks. Total waste of money.

Interesting Listening

This title was as much a comment on parenting techniques as it was about attitudes to devices. Early in the book I thought it shared some themes with 'Bringing Up Bebe' by Pamela Druckerman (also available on Audible): an American author living in another country, trying her best to bring up her children to be decent members of society. Admittedly, Maushart's children are plugged-in teenagers rather than impatient toddlers, but the level of attention paid to their mother was about the same.

As a parent bringing up children in this digital age, I have worried about how we will balance our kids needs to plug in with my somewhat rose-tinted view that they should be outside making mud-pies. Maushart's conclusions didn't really have give any surprises: you turn off the TV, you talk more. But, as with 'Bringing Up Bebe', I was compelled to hear what the family's response and results were, and whilst many of the ideas are common sense, often it helps to have someone state the obvious to remind you that these things matter.
