    Publisher's Summary:
What is the one quality that all successful people have in common?
They have mastered the art of dealing with people!
Let this audiobook show you how to:
Skill with people is the one essential ingredient for success and happiness at home and in business. The Art of Dealing with People gives you the skills to take your people skills to a level that you never thought possible!
Skill in human relations is similar to skill in any other field, in that success depends on understanding and mastering certain basic general principles. You must not only know what to do, but why you're doing it.
As far as basic principles are concerned, people are all the same. Yet each individual person you meet is different. If you attempted to learn some gimmick to deal successfully with each separate individual you met, you would be faced with a hopeless task.
Influencing people is an art, not a gimmick. When you apply gimmicks in a superficial, mechanical manner, you go through the same motions as the person who "has a way", but it doesn't work for you.
The purpose of this book is to give you knowledge based upon an understanding of human nature: Why people act the way they do. The methods presented in this book have been tested on thousands of people who have attended my human-relations seminars. They are not just my pet ideas of how you should deal with people, but ideas that have stood the test of how you must deal with people. That is, if you want to get along with them and get what you want at the same time.

GREAT book BUT get the ebook version, not this
This is a GREAT book, however, the author keeps referring to illustrations that are not supplied (like they are for other audio books) making you wonder what he is talking about - if you listen to this book as opposed to reading it with the illustrations, you are missing the whole picture. Get the print or the ebook version of this great book instead. The illustrations are REQUIRED to fully understand it.
Note to Audible: if you make a book that contains plenty of illustrations available in audio format, PLEASE supply the illustrations with it - without them, you are selling a crippled product that isn't the same as the original book.
Disappointing, but follows the 80/20 rule
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
This book follows the principle it is about too well. The first 20% is were the meat is and the rest is all a sales push for other content and resources that aren't in the book. Go to this website now for...
What could Perry Marshall have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
There is far too much push to go to other websites where you need to sign up for more content. After going to the sites, my inbox was flooded with garbage I didn't want. I bought the book, let me learn from that and stop trying to keep upselling me on additional material.
What three words best describe Ron Allans performance?
The narrator was fine, my issue is with the content.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from 80/20 Sales and Marketing?
Just stop reading once you've read the first 20-25% and don't bother going to the websites.
    Any additional comments?
It's hard to fault Perry Marshall as he is doing exactly what he is teaching in the book. I kept reading hoping for more actual content of value, but the lesson was learned. Hopefully I can spare others from having to endure the last 80%.
    Fascinating
Incredibly interesting with lots of actionable ideas for any business.
One warning, however, this is one of those audio books where the experience isn't as rich as the hardcopy book because it references a number of figures and diagrams.
    Used car salesman
The narrator and book sound like an infomercial.

    Concise and informational
I learned a lot from listening to this book while walking and driving, it is concise but useful things to know for any job seekers.
    Very repetitive
I found this to be extremely repetitive. could have finished in half the time if they didn't repeat everything.
    Very good
This audio needs to be listened many times. It points out very important questions and topics
Longer than it needs to be
VERY repetitive. This could be cut down to 30 minutes total. 40 chapters could be cut down to 3. It's good stuff for first time phone interviews or good refreshers for those who haven't interviewed in a long time. I swear it says the same 37 things 10-12 times in different ways over and over and makes the read sooooooo long and is wasted time. At times i thought the pages had repeated in error. The speaker needs to do commercials or movie previews...not books.
    very imformative!
I have been through many phone interviews and wasn't very knowledgeable about them and always left wondering what I could have done for them in preparation beforehand. After this book my eyes are wide open and my checklist is ready. I believe I will be moving forward into the next step of landing a job.

    Title: Write. Publish. Repeat.
Subtitle: The No-Luck Guide to Self-Publishing Success
Author: Johnny B. Truant, Sean Platt
    Narrator: Simon Whistler
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 10 hrs and 26 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 03-07-14
    Publisher: Sterling & Stone
Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 484 votes
    Genres: Business, Career Skills
    Publisher's Summary:
In 2013, Johnny B. Truant and Sean Platt published 1.5 million words and made their full-time livings as indie authors. In Write. Publish. Repeat., they tell you how exactly how they did it: How they created over 15 independent franchises across 50+ published works, how they turned their art into a logical, sustainable business, and how any independent author can do the same to build a sustainable, profitable career with their writing. Write. Publish. Repeat. explains the current self-publishing landscape and covers the truths and myths about what it means to be an indie author now and in the foreseeable future. It explains how to create books your readers will love and will want to return to again and again. Write. Publish. Repeat. details expert methods for building story worlds, characters, and plots, understanding your market (right down to your ideal reader), using the best tools possible to capture your draft, and explains proven best practices for editing. The audiobook also discusses covers, titles, formatting, pricing, and publishing to multiple platforms, plus a bit on getting your books into print (and why that might not be a good idea!). But most importantly, Write. Publish. Repeat. details the psychology-driven marketing plan that Sean and Johnny built to shape their stories into "products" that readers couldn't help but be drawn into - thus almost automatically generating sales - and explores ways that smart, business-minded writers can do the same to future-proof their careers. This audiobook is not a formula with an easy path to follow. It is a guidebook that will help you build a successful indie publishing career, no matter what type of writer you are...so long as you're the type who's willing to do the work.

The One Book All Self Published Authors Must Read!
Would you listen to Write. Publish. Repeat. again? Why?
Yes. This book is the needed third book all writer must read. I put it up there with "On Writing" and "The Elements of Style" as absolute must reads.
Who was your favorite character and why?
I love the whole book but my favorite bits were when Dave interjected his thoughts.
What about Simon Whistlers performance did you like?
It was amazing! I would listen to this man read the stock ticker to me.
What did you learn from Write. Publish. Repeat. that you would use in your daily life?
I've been a fan of the Self Publishing Podcast almost since the beginning. It was because of these men that I was able to truly take control of my publishing career and kick it in the balls. This book is the perfect distillation of the tips, tricks, and awesome bits of advice Sean, Johnny, and Dave have been giving us for 2 years.
    Any additional comments?
If you are a writer read this book!
The #1 Book for new writers looking for Advice
I have to say this book was everything they said it was. I have read dozens of writing books and this one really delivered value. I market companies for a living and the authors "get" what you need to do. They come across as really in-tune with the real world and deliver a no hype, no bs assessment of direction you can go. They deliver in every chapter and are really quite funny.
I was also pleased with the examples they used. In the past 3 years I have listened to about 5 books they mentioned. It was nice to hear their comments.

very short but to the point
Very short but to the point. The narrator was excellent. I wish I had extra samples for every subject,
    Simple but it works!
This is a simple but very effective book. I recommend it to people wanting to improve their communications in any field. Sure there are more things and strategies to try but this is a good foundation to start with.
Really good review tool for other books...
I like Les Giblin very much. He says the same thing that Dale Carnegie says in How to Win Friends and Influence People in Les' book How to Have Confidence and Power in Dealing with people. Although, I think Les gets more to the point with less storytelling. Both mentioned books are equally worth reading. Truth be told... I enjoyed Les' book more.
This book, Skill with People, is a good review of those previously mentioned books without having to reread either. I'm not sure this book stands on it's own very well. Had I not read the others first, this book would have left me wanting more. As it stands, I feel like this book is a really good and quick review tool, but nothing more. The narrator was good as well.
    Short and Powerful
The book is short and to the point and the points are powerful and useful. I am beyond thrilled to have this in my library!
One of the Best books about dealing with others
If you could sum up Skill with People in three words, what would they be?
    People Skills Tutorial
What other book might you compare Skill with People to and why?
    n/a
Which character as performed by Pat Reilly was your favorite?
    n/a
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
This book is a tutorial outline of the various skills one should master if he or she wants to interact skillfully with others. It is brief and to the point, just the way I like it. I liked it all, and have read or listened to it over two dozen times. It works.
    Any additional comments?
Highly recommended if you wish to be better at relationships with others. I rated the story a 4 because it is more of an instructional text than a story.

    Members Reviews:
    WOW
For me personally this book is really great at expanding your level of knowledge about influencing others and how to identify those who might use influence for malicious purposes. As always the great courses lectures give excellent examples of persons in history that model the level of influence and ethics that are needed to become a great leader
More for consumer vs. sales person
What did you love best about Influence?
Great content with regards to supporting literature and case studies.
Who was your favorite character and why?
    NA
What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?
    The Good:
Professor Brown executed the performance well. He particularly did a great job tying everything together at the end of the lectures. It is obvious that the content was well thought out.
    The Bad:
I gave the performance a 3 out of 5 stars only because I felt the perspective was a tiny bit biased. During the lectures of sales and being both a consumer and a sales person. I felt that he treated sales as something to be afraid of, or to protect yourself against. This became especially apparent when he mentions his personal accounts with sales people. Don't get me wrong, I did get some good take aways being a professional sales person. I felt, however, that the content would be better suited for a cautious consumer than an aspiring sales person.
    Was it worth it?
I do believe it was worth listening to. I learned a lot, and despite what I felt was a biased perspective of sales, he conveyed a lot of helpful tips and data that I benefited from.
What did you learn from Influence that you would use in your daily life?
The most important points I took away were on the lessons of public speaking. He had great examples of his concepts and related them together in a very interesting way.
practical lessons backed up with research
What made the experience of listening to Influence the most enjoyable?
I've listened to another 'The Great Courses' book, and this one actually took me in. It was EASY to listen to, which is important for this kind of non-fiction, life lessons kind of thing.

  • Lead with a Story Audiobook by Paul Smith

    Title: Lead with a Story
Subtitle: A Guide to Crafting Business Narratives That Captivate, Convince, and Inspire
    Author: Paul Smith
    Narrator: A. T. Chandler
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 10 hrs and 51 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 05-16-13
    Publisher: Audible Studios
Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 465 votes
    Genres: Business, Career Skills
    Publisher's Summary:
Storytelling has come of age in the business world. Today, many of the most successful companies use storytelling as a leadership tool. At Nike, all senior executives are designated "corporate storytellers". 3M banned bullet points years ago and replaced them with a process of writing "strategic narratives". Procter & Gamble hired Hollywood directors to teach its executives storytelling techniques. Some forward-thinking business schools have even added storytelling courses to their management curriculum. The reason for this is simple: Stories have the ability to engage an audience the way logic and bullet points alone never could. Whether you are trying to communicate a vision, sell an idea, or inspire commitment, storytelling is a powerful business tool that can mean the difference between mediocre results and phenomenal success.
Lead with a Story contains both ready-to-use stories and how-to guidance for listeners looking to craft their own. Designed for a wide variety of business challenges, the book shows how narrative can help:
Whether in a speech or a memo, communicated to one person or a thousand, storytelling is an essential skill for success. Complete with examples from companies like Kellogg's, Merrill-Lynch, Procter & Gamble, National Car Rental, Wal-Mart, Pizza Hut, and more, this practical resource gives listeners the guidance they need to deliver stories to stunning effect.
    Members Reviews:
    Not what i expected
I had expected this book to deconstruct the elements of storytelling as they relate to business. Instead, the author offers a variety of stories to use in specific business situation. This book is a "what to say," not a "how to say it," guide.
Proctor and Gamble Saves the World!
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
The idea of the book was fine...but I wish the author would have done more research on other industries. There were so many Proctor and Gamble stories that it felt more like an unabashed commercial for the company than it did a true informational read. It was distracting.
What was most disappointing about Paul Smiths story?
I wonder if Proctor and Gamble sponsored the book (did the author receive money from them to write the book)?
You didnt love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
A later chapter on general tips for how to write stories
Started well - couldn't go past half mark
This book wasnt for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
People looking for general life advice
What was most disappointing about Paul Smiths story?
I wish it would continue helping me developing stories instead of giving me life advice
How could the performance have been better?
Continue with practical advices like it started throughout the book, not only in the first half
Good but less P&G stories would be better
I like most of the stories but too many were focused on P&G. I understand that is where he worked but this book would be better if he changed out have the P&G stories for other companies.
Provided stories to use in business
What made the experience of listening to Lead with a Story the most enjoyable?
The book follows its own advice. It engages the reader with stories and gives steps on using the stories for business.
