Henrietta Elizabeth Marshall (1867 1941) was a British author, most famous for her works of history for children.
For decades, Marshall's books were ubiquitous in schools and home libraries. Much of the popularity of her works stems from her talent for making history read like good storytelling.
Members Reviews:
Excellent quality writing, get the kindle and hardcopy!
We use this as our grade 4 through 6 history spine. I purchased the kindle version last year and the hard copy this year. I like both for different reasons. Obviously the kindle version is highly portable, lol, we use it when we are on the go or traveling/ vacationing. However, for us there is nothing like an actual book and I think my son is happier reading off paper rather than a screen. The writing itself is some of the best quality history literature ever and I would highly recommend this kind of history literature over the textbook style.
A Nice Read - Managable Chapters
This Yesterday's Classic is an easy way to pick up the history of the U.S.A.. It's not laden with dates and history buff details but there's enough to get the big picture. Me and my homeschooled kids (9 and 10) are engaged. The chapters are not over long either.
not complete audio
Great book took off one star due to audio content - why just part 1? The rest is not even available on amazon as whisper sync. :( My 8 year old daughter enjoyed this audio book and wanted to hear the rest.
Other wise, really entertaining history for children, keeping in mind the time period will not be politically correct.
They loved it! We are excited to really dig in ...
I have glanced through it and read the first chapter to my boys. They loved it! We are excited to really dig in to it in the fall!
Good stories, but no table of contents or index
The stories are good, but it is very irritating that my copy of the book lacks chapter divisions, table of contents, and an index. I saw this title at the library and realized it was my copy that was lacking rather than the title itself. (Ours was published by Wilder Publications, LLC) We are using it for part of our homeschool history studies, and it is a real pain to match the stories to the topic we are studying.
