Which makes destiny a splendid thing for King Arthur and his noble knights, but what about a knight who is destined to bring disaster to everything he touches? Such a knight is poor Sir Balin, who bears the burden of a childhood prophecy of doom. And sure enough, whenever hes around, things seem to go sour. Whether hes battling an invisible knight or accidentally overthrowing kingdoms, Sir Balin does his best but always expects the worst.

Knights, Questing Ladies & The Old Woman Of Some Mountain!
Sir Balin of the Two Swords would be a better title. This is a great book- humor, adventure, a Questing Lady (very well-written) and the sheer idiocy of fatalism ("I'm doomed to do X because some ol' goober who wandered in prophesied I would when I was born.."). Gerald Morris does an excellent job of dealing with one of the worst and least popular sections of the Arthurian saga: Twin brothers who kill each other because they're each too dumb to learn the identity of their opponent before whacking him. By applying the common sense of even a mentally-deficient ground squirrel, this "Terrible Fate" could be avoided, yet hundreds of years of Arthurian literary convention (until Morris, anyway) argue this is a foregone conclusion. Morris' sly mocking of the adoration which even otherwise sensible people have for the flagrant stupidity of the Shakespearian tragedy is enjoyable throughout this novel. Highly recommend this!
    Kind of Convoluted
I have read all of the other books in the "The Knights' Tales Series". Both my eight year old daughter and myself have enjoyed these modern additions to the body of Arthurian tales. Unfortunately, "The Adventures of Sir Balin" is the weakest book in the series. The story's take on fate and our the ability to control one's destiny is a bit too convoluted for an eight year old to understand. Morris' use of flowery "olde" English is also kind of annoying and takes away from the book. Sadly, not one of Morris' better efforts.
    Five Stars
Great books for girls or boys. My children laugh out loud and enjoyed them all.
not as good as the others in the series
This book had a little more violence than the other books, I thought. It gets better as you get into it and it did make my boys laugh (ages 6 and 8).
it is a really good book
It is a really good book because it's not to long but it is not to short either. It also was very cool.

    Great!
My 9 year old daughter loves this audiobook and has listened to it over and over gain. She is a fan of Jaqueline Wilson and previously wouldn't listen to one of her audiobooks unless it was narrated by the author. Finty Williams has changed her mind - this is definitely her favourite by far.
    Queenie
I am 11 and I love it ! But it does get a bit sad and strang somtimes I hope you like it to
    Fantastic !! And touching !!!
The book was read extremely well by Finty Williams but the book it's self was very touching at some parts I really sunk in and pictured the story !!
    Promising start, but went downhill.
Would you try another book written by Jacqueline Wilson or narrated by Finty Williams?
I have been a fan of Jacqueline Wilson since I was the target age for the stories. Now I am in my twenties and still enjoy listening to them, but I fear the author is succumbing to "quantity over quality". Finty Williams is a good narrator and gives a good voice to the character, but despite this, the story still comes over as largely bland.
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
The start of this story was promising, but once the main plot kicked in, I quickly began to lose interest. The story is named for the cat that features, but actually, the cat itself doesn't seem to appear all that often, and when it does, it doesn't bring much, if anything, to the story.
Wilson seems to fall back on using the same things in numerous stories. With this book being set in the fifties, we are spared the seemingly obligatory name-dropping of Disney/Pixar films and pop stars, but we still get the long-winded side-story of the main character becoming a storyteller. This has featured in several of Wilson's stories and in this one, it gets so long-winded that I found myself asking, "who proof-read this?". A little tale-spinning is fine, but huge sections of this story are taken up by fanciful stories told by Elsie, the main character, that actually have no bearing on the plot at all. These could be taken out and the story would be far shorter and still read the same.

A truly charming and utterly unique set of children's books
Just a wonderful series. My daughter and I are working our way through the whole collection. I think I'll be even more sorry than my daughter when we're finished.
Wonderful magic as in all Moomin books
Wonderful magic as in all Moomin books. Personality archetypes and life wisdom, this time with the Moomin family in hibernation and the other characters center stage. What is family, and how do we deal with longing? Tove Jansson at her best.

    Very good sequel
The book was well written and exciting. I very much enjoyed the story just as much as the first. This one was creepier in parts and I liked the way the author created both a disturbing and fairytale atmosphere in the same instance. The story leaves lots of openings for future work and I am eager to keep reading.
