In this third and final installment of our interview series with two time national champion as a player at UVA and inductee of the NILCA Hall of Fame from St Anne's Belfield in Charlottesville, VA,  Doug Tarring, we discover a strong connection that Coach Tarring has with our co-host's alma mater, Brown University. It turns out the Coach's step brother not only went to Brown but played lacrosse and was good friends with Dom Starsia and their teammates back in the day. 

Coach Tarring tells us what he had imagined lacrosse would look like today back when he first started coaching High School lacrosse in 1973 and we don't want to spoil it for you but let's just say the sport has exceeded expectations. He also explains what he sees as working well today in the sport as well as some areas that could improve. 

He also recounts some of his best players and their shared memories over the years while coaching at STAB and we all wonder if he sort of wished he hadn't retired before Connor Shellenberger, a STAB alum, came along.  

Coach Tarring also describes what he believes can be an up and coming player's edge over the competition. We know you'll enjoy listening to the sage advice he shares. There's "a lot of meat on this bone" of an episode...dig in and let us know what you think!

In this second portion of our three part interview series with two time national champion with UVA and NILCA Hall of Famer with St. Anne's Belfield, Doug Tarring, we learn what the high school lacrosse landscape was like back in the seventies as new regions emerged in Connecticut and Central New York and how they started to challenge the perennial powerhouses of Baltimore and Long Island. 

Coach Tarring reviews the importance of the NILCA as it played an instrumental role in getting lacrosse sanctioned in many states, paving the way for public high school lacrosse.  He also describes how the NILCA initiated the formation of the first U19 Team USA, whom our co-host, Jay McMahon, was a Tri-Captain for. Coach Tarring and Jay share a few entertaining stories and Coach Tarring reveals that the trip, the team, and winning the gold in Australia created one of his most memorable experiences, over a career that spans over forty five years!

Boys and girls lacrosse has been one the fastest growing sports in the country, year after year, for over thirty years, and in this episode we discover the key to that success: grassroots efforts by many a former player of Coach Tarring's and many players of his high school lacrosse colleagues volunteering their time to start youth programs and even becoming high school coaches themselves in virtually every state in the nation.

Our next guest, a NILCA Hall of Fame Coach from St. Anne's Belfield (STAB) in Charlottesville, VA, Doug Tarring, hails from Baltimore, MD where he played his high school lacrosse at the perennial powerhouse St. Paul's School. 

In Part I of our interview Coach Tarring describes what it was like growing up with a wooden lacrosse stick as a companion (he started playing in the 1st grade) in a family and a city where lacrosse factored in, in a major way.   

This southern gentleman gracefully takes us down the road to the University of Virginia, the site of his academic and athletic endeavors. There he would participate, as a history major, a four year starter, and a two time national champion, in 1970 and 1972, for the Wahoos. 

Next, Coach Tarring explains what the high school landscape was like in central Virginia, across the eastern seaboard, and in central New York where a powerhouse was being built in the Syracuse, NY area, back when he started coaching at STAB in 1973. 

Part I is full of interesting stories and encounters with legends like Coach Mitchell of St. Paul's School (a legendary All American at Johns Hopkins) and Coach Buddy Beardmore at UVA (who would go on to be one of the greatest coaches of all time at the University of Maryland). Both men would become USA Lacrosse Hall of Famers. Coach Tarring also offers a fantastic take on the keys to overcoming adversity and winning a national championship which dovetails nicely into our Mindset Minute.  This is an episode you'll want to dig right into! In this third and final episode with the Team USA & USA Lacrosse HOF, father/son duo, Alan and Darren Lowe, we hear the part Alan played in helping initiate what would eventually become USA Lacrosse. Alan also takes us through his experience playing in the World Championships in Australia back in the early 1970s. Alan also played a major administrative role when the 1992 U19 USA Team hosted the junior world games at Hofstra University. 
Later on in the interview Darren describes what it was like for him to play against his dad’s high school team, perennial Long Island and New York State powerhouse, Manhasset. 
Finally, Alan and Darren give their advice on what they consider essential skills for today’s up and coming lacrosse players.

In this second installment of our three-part interview with the father/son duo and USA Lacrosse HOFers Alan and Darren Lowe we delve into Alan's experience playing for Team USA back in the early 1970s. 
Next we hear of how Darren, who would eventually lead Team USA to gold in 1998 and 2002, strived to overcome adversity after being cut from the squad following the 1994 team tryouts. 
Both Alan and Darren describe the family and Team USA scene at the 2002 World Championship where Darren was reunited with his younger brother on the squad and how they all celebrated the surreal moment as the games were held in Australia, the site where Alan had won gold with Team USA exactly thirty years before.

In the first installment of our three-part series with the father and son duo of Team USA  alumni and USA Lacrosse Hall of Famers, Alan and Darren Lowe, we hear of Alan's early years playing lacrosse on Long Island as the sport was gaining a certain level of popularity. 

Next, Darren describes how his love of lacrosse and much of his exceptional skills developed while playing with his father Alan and his younger brother Kevin (also a USA Lacrosse hall of famer) in their backyard.

As we conclude this portion of the interview our co-hosts inquire about the start of Allan Lowe's legendary high school lacrosse coaching career initially at East Meadow High School. There, for four years, he coached the current Duke and USA Men's head coach, John Danowski. Alan also explains how he eventually moved on to Manhasset High School and what helped his teams there have such success. All the while he had a young Darren tagging along and listening intently to what his dad taught the players. They paint quite a father son portrait, one you won't want to miss.

In this second portion of our interview series with perhaps the greatest Men's D1 lacrosse coach of all time, Bill Tierney, and his close mentee of over twenty years, head Brown Men's lacrosse coach and former DIII national champion while at Tufts, Mike Daly, we listen in as the coaches describe what they see as the most important qualities of today's men's college recruits. 
Both coaches also describe how their relationship developed over the years and reached such a zenith in 2015, the year they simultaneously won the DI and DIII national championships,  that  Coach Tierney said it felt like they both had a part in each others accomplishment.
