The Back of the Bird

It's the last ever episode of the Back of the Bird.

After 141 great shows and countless memories, we have decided not to continue with the podcast. It's been an incredible run for the podcast, and we want to thank each and every listener who took time out of their busy schedules to make us a part of their routine.

Maybe the Back of the Bird will rise again, but for now, it's see you later.

Or as Pauly would say...

Peace!

Welcome to Episode 140 of Back of the Bird! This week, we’re joined by none other than Ian MacKay, a standout player for the 2023 NLL champion Buffalo Bandits. Ian, a versatile and dynamic force on the field, has been a key contributor to the Bandits’ success, showcasing his leadership, grit, and all-around skill.

In this episode, Ian shares his perspective on an unforgettable season. From the intense regular-season battles to the thrill of the playoffs, Ian takes us behind the scenes of the Bandits’ championship run. He talks about the chemistry in the locker room, the strategies that paid off, and the moments that will live on in lacrosse history.

But it’s not just about the team. Ian opens up about his personal journey this season—overcoming challenges, celebrating milestones, and continuing to grow as both a player and a leader. We also dive into Ian’s unique role on the field, balancing defensive responsibilities with offensive creativity, and how he’s become one of the league’s most reliable two-way players.

Off the field, Ian gives us a glimpse into his life, his inspirations, and what keeps him motivated. Whether you’re a Buffalo Bandits fan, a lacrosse enthusiast, or someone looking for insight into the mindset of a champion, this episode is packed with stories and lessons that will inspire.

So sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride as we chat with Ian MacKay about the highs, lows, and unforgettable moments of an incredible NLL season. This is one you won’t want to miss!

On today's episode, the boys discuss Pauly's 4th NLL championship as a member of the Buffalo Bandits. It's the fourth title for Paul, to go along with 4 Mann Cups and 2 Minto Cups as a coach.

We discuss everything from the championship run including the on-floor events and chirping, the post-game party and some memorable conversations between his teammates while the clock winded down.

We also discuss the experience of winning the championship in front of family members as they continue to grow older and older, especially with the number of seasons remaining in a career being finite.

But most of all we laugh and reminisce over another NLL season come and gone, and hope to provide the listeners with a good farewell for the NLL season!

We will be hopefully publishing more episodes in the near future before taking our late summer break. Until then, thanks for listening and don't forget to support our great sponsors Cottage Springs, PO Athletic and Kelo!

On today's episode, the boys chat about the NLL Finals, NLL Awards and chat about the reasons why we have so many more 100 point scorers than we used to.

We also wish good luck to our buddy Paul as he embarks on his fifth NLL championship appearance, in search of his fourth ring.

We break some live news as Connor Fields becomes just the second American to win the NLL MVP Award (Casey Powell was the first) and Frank Scigliano becomes the second BC born goaltender to win the Goalie of the Year award!

The boys also take on the complicated issue regarding players acting as a goaltender to block shots and debate the pros and cons for the sport and discuss potential rule changes.
