A great read full of good information!!

Once again Pascal Dennis has written a great book. Andy & Me and the Hospital catches many of the features that make applying a system started in Manufacturing complex when used in healthcare. The book does an excellent job of pointing out how the majority of TPS works in non-manufacturing settings and explains how to adapt the few that don't translate well.

I strongly recommend this book to any healthcare workers who are on a transformation journey. Especially those who don't believe Lean will work for them because healthcare is "special."

Prescription for improving the broken healthcare world

Pascal Dennis tells everyone how healthcare can be made better and safer. I wish that more healthcare leaders would take the time to understand his message and apply Lean thinking to their organizations.

Reclaim the word politics

Recently there was a video on how you have to be willing to do politics to become a CEO.

To lead yourself, you need inspiration and motivation but to lead others, you translate the same requisites to a vision that can be shared by all.

In this path of magnification from self to an organization, you can take the bureaucratic cycle or the entrepreneurial cycle. There is a good deal of comparison in each of the two kinds of organizations - tactics used, state of the members in terms of dependency.

In a change situation, when the CEO's orders are not followed - 'Even people at the top are in the middle' serves as a caution to the leaders who dont take charge. I recently learned about ADKAR (Awareness Desire Knowledge Ability Reinforcement) with regards to Change management. The Desire of ADKAR is chimed in the 'change from the top down happens at the will and whim of those below'. The third important realization that the author Peter Block had about power and empowerment is 'The power of boss is asymmetrical'.

Robert's Rules is a standard work that anyone who is involved with any type of deliberative organization must be familiar with. One thing I did find strange with this book was that there was no author or executive editor listed. If there was, I would be happy to commend them.The book makes plain that Robert's Rules themselves are intended to help users avoid wasting time.
