Encounter

Encounter was pretty fun, but it ended right when the action was starting! Josh and Ricky are best friends and run a website with a couple of other friends. Their site focuses on debunking the myth of crop circles, by creating their own on local farms and documenting the process. In order to up their game, Josh begins filming them as they create the crop circles, since photos are easily faked. They've also gained the attention of an intern who's studying crop circles and why people are so ready to believe it's aliens. But when they finish their most elaborate design yet, something strange happens.

I liked Encounter a lot. I loved the idea of a group of college kids trespassing on farms and designing crop circles. The story is told from the POV of Josh's camera, although that's not always clear. The beginning of the chapters set the stage, but from there it read like a normal dual POV (Josh and Ricky). Like I said, the action really starts at the end. Ricky's latest design shows up on two other fields the same night that his team set up theirs! Is it aliens?! Did Emily the intern sell them out?! What's really going on here?! Of course, I can't tell you that, but it was getting quite exciting and then just ended.

Encounter also has a cute romance. Josh and Ricky both have feelings for the other but are afraid to say anything as they don't want to ruin the friendship. There's plenty of lingering glances and lustful thoughts. And they both try to make the other jealous by flirting with Emily! Just say how you feel! Of course, the adrenaline rush toward the end causes feelings to be expressed, and Josh and Ricky actually talk about what's going on with them. The romance is certainly not the focus, but I enjoyed it as well.

This is a story about a boy and his friends.They go out making crop circles to prove they are man made. There is a lot of build up in the book that I really enjoyed. The book features some major surprise moments that really pulled me in.

There were times where I really didn't know why Ann and Mike were on the team besides needing the extra hands really or how the If I was a part of a team like this and the team lacked the trust in each other the way that this group seemed to at times I would have been out of there. They were just rude to each other at times. Nothing would have made me stay. Josh does stay and you can see itâs for Ricky who he has had a crush on forever.

The way Josh dealt with his sexuality was a little odd to me but not a deal-breaker. Josh.Josh and Ricky go through some weird stages in the book and their situation is only more complicated by Emily.

Paul Morey does a great job but the story is weak

Jack and Zachariah dont call me Zac were friends in high school until one day Zachariah and his football friends do something truly horrible to Jack that leaves him near death.

Now, fifteen years later, Zachariah has writers block and hes calling on Jack for help.

After some resistance, Jack agrees to meet with Zachariah in Southern France and they work out their differences and realize that they still harbor deep feelings for each other and more.

Oh man. I really, really wanted to like this book and I really dont want to write a review full of negativity I liked the premise so much I liked the writing and the narration it seemed to have a nice flow but

First, I never understood why Zachariah treated Jack the way he did. It was brutal. Not just a prank, but brutality. And Zacs answer to why he did it I dont know, it seemed like the right thing at the time. And, I thought it was a harmless prank. I wasnt thinking. These just dont jive for me. Even for a 17 year-old boy, none of that makes any sense. Jack was his friend. Even if he wasnt publicly friends with him or if he was ashamed of the friendship, even if he was scared by his own feelings, even if he was feeling bullied by his football friends (which he never claims to be any of these), the amazingly abusive bullying he took part in makes absolutely no sense and then he simply walks away from him that night and then runs away from him once he finds out Jacks in the hospital? It just doesnt make sense.

If I were Jack I dont believe there would be any way in hell Id forgive him. Especially when he had not one real reason for doing it.

Second, if we ignore the first major hole in the plot and accept the fact that it happened what causes Zacs renewed interest? There are plenty of reasons he could have for wanting to reconnect, but we are given none. Then, when Zac decides he wants to see Jack again, he essentially bullies Jack into flying to France to see him. Why didnt he just get on a plane himself if it was so important? And why did Jack get on the plane? That made no sense either. Zac almost got Jack killed and its Zac who needs closure let the man come to you! Not to mention Jack has a business to run, kids who depend on him and the man almost got you killed!

Third, now that Jack is in France he goes to see Zac, then runs away when Zac cant do anything but say hes sorry, but Jack still stays in Zacs house. Why not go to a hotel? Why not go home? The next time Jack sees him, Zac tells him he wants him and Jack punches Zac and then goes to live with Zacs sister for a week.

Intriguing supernatural romance

This book is quite hard to categorise. There are two central romances (one lesbian and one heterosexual) - both set in Nova Scotia - linked by a diary - and woven through with a ghost story. I found it intriguing and enjoyed it very much.

Holy Moly!

What made the experience of listening to Blowback the most enjoyable?

Bev Prescott's Blowback is game-changer, and a book that I highly recommend to discriminating fans of lesbian fiction. It's chock full of hard working characters, struggling to make the best choices they can, even when those choices are limited at best. The story is edgy, and sometimes hard to listen tonot because it is badly written, quite the opposite. It is hard to sit through because it doesn't sugarcoat the truth that in present-day American society, guns take as many lives as they save. Trust me, nothing can prepare you for the heart-stopping conclusion of this audiobook. Bravo Ms. Prescott and Ms. Bennett!

Different, but a must listen

This book is a well-written message about the sensitive subject of gun ownership woven into complicated family dynamics. You should begin listening with an open mind, because I think the writer does a pretty good job of approaching the subject from both points of view even though her conclusion falls decidedly on one side of the issue. It's a good story, with many complications and a cloudy outcome until the conclusion. The only negative -- and I'm reaching a bit here because it's a very mild criticism -- is that the story had a somewhat weak arc so that you sort of tumble down the road to the conclusion rather than arc upward, then gain momentum as you shoot forward to the conclusion. But, as I said, it's a mild criticism -- something most people probably wouldn't notice.

The narrator was good. The read was long and meaty. I'd definitely recommend this book.

intriguing and thought-provoking book

I thought the storyline of this book, which followed the "life" of a single gun, added a great deal to the discussion around guns and gun control. Most public discussions of this topic seem to end in both sides screaming at each other. The characters are very approachable and familiar, descriptions of Portland, Maine are spot on and beautifully drawn. I could almost smell the salt mist from the sea! No matter what your opinion is regarding Second Amendment rights, this is a good story that gives you plenty to think about and some interesting facts about gun laws.

Wonderful story and excellent performance

This was a one day listen for me. This is a wonderful story of Chris, a 48 year old man trying to recover his life after his husband of 22 years leaves him for a younger woman. Zach, the ex, is truly a jerk, and freely admits that he "gave" Chris his three children when he brought Chris home after his first wife committed suicide. The saving grace is Chris' adopted children are really wonderful. They all consider Chris their "mom" and love him unconditionally, although the mom thing gets annoying at a point.

This is the story of one man's journey of self discovery; is he just someone's mom? Can he find love again? I really enjoyed going along with Chris has he starts his 3rd act in life. I really identified with him in his search to break out of the box he (and his ex) created for himself. His love interest is really a hoot and very non traditional, but I can't say anymore about that without spoilers. There is very little external drama in this story, which I usually don't like.. However, the writing and storytelling from Chris' POV is so good, I was engaged from beginning to end. I loved the HEA, but also love to read a sequel. The narrator does an excellent job bringing the various characters to life.

Touching story of mid-life changes

This book is much better written than most in the MM genre. The main characters are convincingly male and gay, which in itself is unusual. The first half is about a break-up and is heartbreaking. The second half, or perhaps third, is about a man who is pushing fifty finding new love and a new life. The age and life-stage of the MC is also very unusual and a refreshing change from the all the books about guys in their 20s. It brings a realism and a heft to the story that is usually absent. My only criticisms would be that the MC is a little too angelic to be believed. He is completely understanding and uncritical of everyone, no matter how nasty they are to him. The other criticism is that this ex-husband is a little too nasty to be believed. It's not clear at all why he stayed with him so long, and why he ever loved him. He seems to have no redeeming qualities at all. The narration is great.

This book is an intelligent and emotional one, and is well worth your credit. I will definitely be getting all of his other books.

As a prestigious boarding school alum, this resonated strongly with me. Back in my day, school was much different. Teachers were feared and "buggery" (as it was then called) was a naughtiness high in the catalogue of grave sins, although by sixth form many of us had been initiated into the Club. I suppose all of this has changed today, and reading this was bittersweet as it sent me back to a place that I had long forgotten. It was a time where the illusion of high morals and forbearance dictated.

Double GFY- okay narration

This is a double GFY! Jeff and Clay have had some experiences with other guys (circle jerks count, right?) but are basically two straight bull-riders who are neck in neck competing on the rodeo circuit. They arent even friends, maybe frenemies if anything. One day Jeff gets overwhelmed by something and kisses Clay! Instead of getting punched in the mouth like youd expect from a straight guy, Clay welcomes the change in their relationship sort of.

The next morning Clay has some serious recriminations and bolts. Jeff, understandably, is both hurt and relieved, because he doesnt exactly understand these feelings and doesnt want any sort of reputation as a gay cowboy to tarnish his chances for rodeo success.

The bulk of the story is Clay and Jeff dancing around their feelings and experimenting with the physical side of their relationship. They get some great advice from the only out gay cowboys on the circuit but it isnt enough to keep the boys from fretting.

When push comes to shove they decide that their relationship is worth working on and we are left with a pretty satisfying HFN.

I was really loving this story planning on at least a 4 heart review up until the end. I didnt like the vague way the boys left it and I was disappointed that they didnt get a chance to really go all the way in terms of completing their commitment to one another.

I enjoy Paul Morey as a narrator and he did a good job with the country twang in this story. There were a few voices that were just odd and didnt really seem to fit, so I dont consider this his best work.

Overall, both the story and the narration are a 3.5 of 5 stars.

If you need the L word, or full on relations youll be disappointed, but if you like cowboys who have no gay experience experimenting with both their bodies and their hearts I think youll really like this story.

This was an interesting story with a cringe worthy cliffhanger. The relationship felt a bit rushed but that in no way took away from the overall story.

The performance was a love - hate feeling for me. I loved his voice during the erotic scenes but felt bored and wished his voice sounded a bit younger for the rest of the story.

Overall, a good contemporary mm romance with a bit of angst.

What made the experience of listening to A Perfect Passion the most enjoyable?

This was my very first audio and it was truly an interesting experience....listening to someone reading the story was better than i thought it would be....this narrator has got such a sexy voice and that made it truly hot to listen to

I loved the way the narrator slightly changed his voice for the different characters but not too much.

I think the last scene was my favourite as it was in the book.......

I'm always moved by the part that Dax returns to Damian and listening to him on the phone sitting on his bike behind Damians truck was hot x

This is a must listen to audio...Piper Kay writes hot books but i was sure i was gonna hate listening to it even though Dax is my favourite...but i was wrong....This was very hot and sexy to listen to x

The story was good bur the beginning was a little stronger and there were a few words that didn't quite fit the bill for the read though. An example for one of those words is slurp. Its a slightly distracting word in the midst of a passionate scene especially if used more than once. I would have loved to see the relationship play out a little bit more'

Praise for the pledge

I loved this book. Pledge number seven was fearless and he ends up not only giving T.K. strength and support to be who he truly is but also gives his frat house a new voice to accept brothers into their house whether gay or not. Not everyone accepts their relationship, but that's just the reality of their situation. Great sex, very hot and also endearing.
