I would listen again to "Standing Strong" because John MacArthur speaks the truth by providing information that true followers of our Lord needs to understand in order to reach the finish line "Hearing Well Done." Being a faithful child of God in today's world is not an easy walk.

I absolutely loved this book! I listened to it every opportunity I had. I will listen to it multiple times over to master the strategies in this book. If only we knew this information 10 years ago, we wouldn't have gone through such adversity through the years. I will also look for another one of his books, "Two sides of love". Thank you, Dr. Smalley! Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experiences in this beautiful, awe-inspiring masterpiece!!!

    Publisher's Summary:
Planting and leading a new church is not easy. There are the inevtiable setbacks and challenges that come with launching anything new. And the process will test and try a leaders faith, as they face discouragment, loneliness, and failure. In this book, pastor and seasoned chuch leader Wayne Cordeiro speaks the truth in love, offering wisdom and insight to prepare leaders as they face the difficulties and hardships of church planting, while providing encouragement and inspiration for the journey.
Sifted is based on Jesus encouragement to Peter in Luke 22 to keep his faith and minister to others from his weakness. An experienced practitioner, Wayne shares the things he wishes hed known when he was starting a new church. With additional stories from other prominent, seasoned leaders, each chapter includes a thought-provoking challenge question to develop a heart that is surrendered to God, focused on being and becoming versus doing and accomplishing. Wayne writes about a healthy integration and balance of personal care and leadership amidst the difficulties of the church-planting journey.
Loneliness and discouragement are normal in church planting, but God cares more about our journey of faith and who we are becoming than our worldly accomplishments and the churches we build. Church planting is an ongoing process of surrender, personal growth, and character development.
The book will challenge leaders to persevere and rededicate themselves to their calling, their marriage, and their family. Instead of a how-to book on models and methods, this is a combination of a self-assessment book that challenges leaders scorecards of success, encourages leaders to realize that they are not alone in what they are experiencing, and provides wisdom for the long haul to position younger leaders for a life of ministry in which they will finish strong.

    Great read
"The question is not whether we will suffer, the question is how we choose to suffer. We can suffer purely taking offense to what others will say growing bitter because we aren't getting what we deserve. It we can suffer according to Gods "
    Yes, he did say that!
Would you listen to Sifted again? Why?
Yes, I find Francis Chan to be the greatest pastor that I have ever met. I have met some of the greatest men of our time but none have walked the talk as Francis has. Who do you know will tithe 50%?
Who was your favorite character and why?
Francis Chan, he has the ability to tell you and say things in such a manner that you would not allow any one to tell you. Francis loves those he preaches to so much that he will say it and yes it might sting for a second but it is spiritual medicine.
    Any additional comments?
If you ever have the opportunity to see Francis preach, go! He is amazing. Please remember that he I human and is not God but the Spirit does flow from his words.
Great book for instruction & encouragement!!

Safe. Comfortable. Happy. Words we all love. Feelings we want. Even crave. We may love God, but being that hes invisible, words like comfortable seem to feel better faster. We are all chasing something. Our hearts were made to run hard and fast after things that move us. But as a generation, we are all beginning to stir and wake up, identifying that these words dont satisfy for long, especially when compared to God. If God is real, and we are going to live with Him forever, shouldnt He be everything? Caught in this familiar haze of worldly happiness and empty pursuits, Jennie Allen and her husband Zac, prayed a courageous prayer of abandonment that took them on the adventure God had written for them. God, we will do anything. Anything. Anything is a prayer of surrender that will spark something. A prayer that will move us to stop chasing things that just make us feel happy and start living a life that matters. A life that is... Surrendered. Reckless. Courageous. If we truly know a God worth giving anything for, everything changes.

It was life changing. I can't stop thinking about it. She touched the deepest part of my soul through her anointed words.
    A great listen
Loved listening to this story. It's full of encouragement!
Great reminder of Christ's love for us.
    Love Jennie's heart for God!
This was such a good book. It was well written and entertaining all while encouraging you to run towards God and abandon yourself to His plans for your life!
A challenging book that will transform you.
I read this book on Kindle at the same time I listened to the audiobook and I found doing both to be of a benefit. Although Jenny belongs to a slightly different stream of Christianity than I do, our hearts both long to make a difference in our world. I had this book in my library for a while before I finally sat down to listen to it. I really didn't know what the book was about, to be honest, I bought it because I got a good deal on it. However, as soon as I read the first paragraph, I knew the book was a word from God for me. I'm at the point in my life once again where I am praying the anything prayer. God, I will do anything for you. Jennie writes with humour, transparency and rawness. If your world is perfectly in order, this book is for you. If your life is out of control, this book is for you. God calls all Christians to abandon ourselves to His reckless, passionate love and to follow Him in reckless obedience. This book will convince you of that truth.
    Go ALL IN with Jesus!
If you could sum up Anything in three words, what would they be?
    A future classic.
What did you like best about this story?
    Jennie Allen pulls no punches!
What does Jaimee Draper bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
I would not have experienced nearly the same impact from this book without the process of listening to it being read aloud.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
    What is YOUR "anything?"
    Any additional comments?
    Definitely worth the investment!

    Publisher's Summary:
In Between Heaven and Mirth, James Martin, SJ, assures us that God wants us to experience joy, to cultivate a sense of holy humor, and to laugh at lifes absurditiesnot to mention our own humanity. Father Martin invites believers to rediscover the importance of humor and laughter in our daily lives and to embrace an essential truth: faith leads to joy.
Holy people are joyful people, says Father Martin, offering countless examples of healthy humor and purposeful levity in the stories of biblical heroes and heroines, and in the lives of the saints and the worlds great spiritual masters. He shows us how the parables are often the stuff of comedy, and how the gospels reveal Jesus to be a man with a palpable sense of joy and even playfulness. In fact, Father Martin argues compellingly, thinking about a Jesus without a sense of humor may be close to heretical.
Drawing on Scripture, sharing anecdotes from his experiences as a lifelong Catholic, a Jesuit for over twenty years, and a priest for more than ten, and including amusing and insightful sidebars, footnotes, and jokes, Father Martin illustrates how joy, humor, and laughter help us to live more spiritual lives, understand ourselves and others better, and more fully appreciate Gods presence among us. Practical how-to advice helps us use humor to show our faith, embrace our humanity, put things into perspective, open our minds, speak truth, demonstrate courage, challenge power, learn hospitality, foster effective human relations, deepen our relationship with God, and ... enjoy ourselves. Inviting God to lighten our hearts, we can enjoy a little heaven on earth.

    Great Perspective
A well balanced, easy to listen to and useful perception. It focuses on the important things in life for when we get bogged down by gloom and drudgery. A simple and clear perspective about choices we have in life.
I feel richer for having taken in this book.
    Well done, Jim.
Why joy & humor are important to the spirituality
Donald Kims A Down and Dirty Guide to Theology, is the only book on systematic theology that I have read that includes a section on theological jokes. Kim makes the point that too often when we talk about God and Theology, only the dry stuff gets passed on. Instead Kim thought a section on theological jokes was important (in a very short introduction to theology) because it would help the reader remember that theology is not only dry academics, but rooted in a relationship with God and any relationship needs laughter. Not long after that I read David Darks The Sacredness of Questioning Everything.

    Release date: 01-24-12
    Publisher: Audible Studios
Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 57 votes
    Genres: Religion & Spirituality, Christianity
    Publisher's Summary:
Martin Luther was a German priest and professor of theology who initiated the Protestant Reformation. He strongly disputed the claim that freedom from God's punishment of sin could be purchased with money. He confronted indulgence salesman Johann Tetzel with his Ninety-Five Theses in 1517. His refusal to retract all of his writings at the demand of Pope Leo X in 1520 and the Holy Roman Emperor Charles V at the Diet of Worms in 1521 resulted in his excommunication by the pope and condemnation as an outlaw by the Emperor.
Luther taught that salvation is not earned by good deeds but received only as a free gift of God's grace through faith in Jesus Christ as redeemer from sin. His theology challenged the authority of the Pope of the Roman Catholic Church by teaching that the Bible is the only source of divinely revealed knowledge and opposed sacerdotalism by considering all baptized Christians to be a holy priesthood. Those who identify with Luther's teachings are called Lutherans.
    Editorial Reviews:
Martin Luther was a German Catholic priest who, in the 16th century, led what came to be known as the Protestant Reformation, questioning long-held truths and practices of the Catholic Church and finding himself excommunicated as a result. This, his third major work, details his beliefs on freedom and servitude, stating, "A Christian is a perfectly free lord of all, subject to none. A Christian is a perfectly dutiful servant of all, subject to all." With ardent vigor, Eric Brooks delivers this seminal work of the Protestant Reformation.

Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 58 votes
    Genres: Religion & Spirituality, Christianity
    Publisher's Summary:
In this incendiary new work, the controversial author and speaker Peter Rollins proclaims that the Christian faith is not primarily concerned with questions regarding life after death but with the possibility of life before death. In order to unearth this truth, Rollins prescribes a radical and wholesale critique of contemporary Christianity that he calls pyro-theology. It is only as we submit our spiritual practices, religious rituals, and dogmatic affirmations to the flames of fearless interrogation that we come into contact with the reality that Christianity is in the business of transforming our world rather than offering a way of interpreting or escaping it. Belief in the Resurrection means but one thing: participation in an insurrection.
    Members Reviews:
    Christianity in HD
Its a little clunky in the beginning.
Once Rollins digs deep into his point however, it is quite a beautiful look into Christianity.
    Listen again
This is one of those books, that to properly digest it you have to listen to it again. I have been following Peter for the last 2 years, and this is one of those works that sets to sail a thousand ships of thought.
    The deconstructed cliff
I am guessing the perception of this book by new age Christians is summarized well in the quote on the cover. The problem with this is that you can think you are being pushed off a cliff by Peter, but he can't acknowledge what he is offering in the book is a safety net of another rewrite of Christian fundamentals. He is still working within the framework of the existence of a cliff. Once the cliff disappears, the conversation is meaningless, because life is. True honesty doesn't involve trying to convince yourself or anyone else that Christianity holds any deeper understanding of the world.
I was actually leaning toward a mystical view of a god being, collective unconscious, etc. after being a rather concrete thinking agnostic after being saved out of the baptist cult. Until this book. Without knowing he is playing on the side of the machines, Peter showed his cards that he didn't even know he had and blew the whole thing up for me in the process. Life is meaningless and we are all on our drug of choice. Including Peter. Including Rob Bell. Including me. Thanks for the helping me find the backdoor way to seeing life as barren, lonely, pointless and full of cheap thrills that are worth every last moment of enjoyment!
    Very challenging
What did you love best about Insurrection?
Applicable and relevant critiques of modern Christianity. Rollins meaningfully challenged my comfort level and gave helpful new trajectories. I am recommending this to all of my other friends who also desire healthy analysis and rupture of comfortable patterns of existence. May God truly rid us of our incorrect and often harmful notions of who God is.

    Genres: Religion & Spirituality, Christianity
    Publisher's Summary:
Racism, hatred, and claims to ethnic superiority have been tragic elements of the human condition since the Fall. In every manifestation, the root of racial sin is an unbelieving heart resistant to the grace and mercy of God. The gospel of Jesus Christ, therefore, is the only hope for any meaningful racial solutions.
John Piper brings the light of the gospel to bear on racial issues in this groundbreaking book. Bloodlines begins with Piper's confession of his own sins and experience with racial tensions, along with how God has been transforming him and his church. He enables readers to grasp the reality and extent of racism, and then he demonstrates from Scripture how the light of the gospel penetrates the darkness of this destructive sin. The book concludes with sections on what Jesus's atoning death means for racial issues, interracial marriage, and prejudice.
With great sensitivity and compassion, along with a careful reading of the Scriptures, Piper helps readers navigate the painful landscape of racial sin, showing that in the gospel we all have a common bloodline and that through the blood of Jesus, race and ethnicity become secondary for a common people of God.
