Loaded with Scriptural references and relevant stories, Stormie's Choose Love drew me closer to God (vertically) and to others (horizontally). I loved it that Stormie narrated her own book. I adore and admire her, so her voice sounds sweet and nurturing to me.

Outstanding book. Very insightful. One that must be returned to. Were it simple subject matter the readers pace would be perfect, but considering the depth of the material his pace was a bit too fast.

Previously published chapters compiled to a book

I am an unabashed fan of NT Wright. I have read most of his popular level books (except the commentary series) and a few of his more academic oriented books. I appreciate his focus on calling people to a fresh look at scripture and his ability to take scripture seriously while maintaining real academic quality.

But on the whole I was disappointed by this book. It is a re-working of articles that have previously appeared elsewhere. Most of them were commissioned by US journals or from chapters in books that were for US audiences, so as a Brit, he is most of the time consciously writing for the North American Evangelical audience.

His basic arguments, like most of Wright, is that given historical realities of the original writers and audience, we modern readers tend to be missing the intended point of the original writers.

As with most Wright he needs to go through a fairly long narrative to be able to help the reader understand his point. And I think that is why his full length book treatments are better than these shorter issue based chapters.

The problem is not so much the individual chapters, but that in almost every case, he has a better response in a full length books (and he frequently tells the reader that there is more to the story if you want to pick up another one of his books.) So his first three chapters on science and religion, the historical Adam and the resurrection were all better handled by his book Scripture and the Authority of God.

The fourth chapter, The Biblical Case for Ordaining Women, is actually one of the two issues in the book that was new to me (although he says he has brought up several of the issues before in his commentary series.)

The fifth chapter is theoretically about environmentalism, but is really a short version of his Surprised by Hope book about eschatology.

The sixth chapter is the only chapter that I think might be better as a chapter than the book. Wright's Evil and the Justice of God was decent, but in this chapter he does a better job of summarizing by saying, we cannot solve the problem of evil. Instead, God has chosen to give us scripture, not as a way to intellectually solve the problem of evil, but as a way to remind us that God is with us through difficult times.

Several of the later chapters are more political and this is where likely a number of bad reviews will focus. Wright have a very good defence of why a scriptural church is a political church. And Wright also is theologically consistent with his politics. The problem for many readers is that those politics do not match well with our US political systems.

Meditations from Mac Donald

These are an excellent collection of George Mac Donald's quotes. Because these quotes deserve meditation and reflection, they would better be considered in writing rather than audio.

Incredibly boring...

This book wasnt for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

I am struggling to get through this short book. I feel as if the author dumbs the content down and constantly repeats the same phrases again and again. For the time being, I'm stopped 2.5 hours in because he keeps repeating "enrolling in the school of contentment". Shut up already. Make your point and move on. I wish I could get my credit back for this book.

I've met seer Prophets and wondered how they operated. I was thrilled that James wrote about it. This book teaches that identifying with the heart of God allows us to be prophetic.

Encouraging book!

What a wonderful testimony of a faithful servant of Christ! I listened to this audio book every time I had dishes to wash or work on the computer, and even on the sabbath as I watched the baby play in the grass! I have been encouraged and challenged by the life of Amy Carmichael! What a life she lives to God!y

Great inspirational read!

Love the story, what an incredible life Amy Carmichael lived and what a difference she made in the lives of all those she served. I am definitely going to be looking for more of these books, there is supposed to be a series of them. The narrator did a beautiful job and I couldn't wait to continue listening! It ended far too soon! :-)

Interesting, but not as good as some of the others

It was interesting at points, but it didn't grab my attention like some of the other books in the series. It seemed to have less memorable moments than most books I've listened to about missionaries. But if you want to learn the story behind who Amy Carmichael was, it will certainly accomplish that!

Interesting and Thought Provoking

Although this was not an actual specifically written book, it is a compilation of the relevant 'Apologetics' essays and articles that C S Lewis had written over a 20 year period, as such, this is an amazing and 'definitive' book, to be read alongside 'Mere Christianity' 'Surprised by Joy' and 'God In The Dock'.

Unfortunately, I am one of those (probably many), hesitant Christians, who believe, but have an element of timidity in confessing, sharing or even admitting my belief! I'm not proud of it, but I know that God is working with me on this. One of His solutions for me?: C S Lewis.

This collection of essays underline and emphasise many things that we believe as Christians, with thought provoking discussions on topics that, although maybe not specifically dwelt on, cover areas that, such hesitant Christians as I, can exclaim; "Ah yes!" to.

A couple of the essays were a little over my head - the Classics references - but I still achieved an overall understanding of the matter discussed. However notwithstanding this statement, this is an easy, interesting and thought provoking audiobook, which was interesting enough for me to listen to a few times. Not because I 'didn't get it', but because I DID get it, and wanted to remember it!

This book is for you if you can relate to what I've written above.

This book is for you if you are currently an Agnostic or an Atheist and want to hear the arguments that other Christians cannot satisfactorily articulate.

C S Lewis was a very talented, gifted, articulate man. He was also an Atheist who put God in the Dock, and ended up being converted. You cannot afford to pass on this audiobook, it's worth Every penny.
