Outstanding!!!

I actually started out with book 3 and will be working my way back through this trilogy. John Hough's Narration is outstanding. The story takes so many wonderful twists and turns it's wonderful. Not predictable as many fantasy adventures can be. You'll find yourself cheering the characters along and going along on an emotional roller coaster with them a great way to spend 17 hours of your life!

Good Story Ruined by the Narration

The narration and / or editing was awful. Mispronunciations of common words and an uneven pace made paying attention difficult. And the hambone laughter! ugh!

Disappointing

This book is very disappointing. I am a long term fan of Raymond Feist's books and I have read all the books he has ever written, many of them multiple times. Unfortunately, I think he has finally run out of ideas and he is now recycling old ones unashamedly. There is nothing new in this book, and every section leaves you with a feeling of de ja vous. Far too much time is spent on scene setting, and there is far too little action. The characters are not particularly engaging and I felt myself on the verge of giving up listening multiple times. To make things worse, the narrator is quite unsuitable. His performance oozes pomposity, and I felt that the accents he uses for different characters often felt quite inappropriate. I bought this book as soon as it became available, with a great feeling of excitement - but I won't be so trusting in future.

Good book, average narration.

I thoroughly enjoyed the book itself, but the narrator's voices for the characters were inconsistent and unconvincing. At some points, it became difficult to tell who the narrator was trying to vocalize, the voices were often that similar and interchangeable. Also annoying was the narrators tendency to have the characters *sigh* constantly.

In all, I'd recommend reading this book instead of listening to it - its a good story, but unfortunately the narrator isn't quite up to scratch this time. Four stars for the book, Two for the narration.

FANTASTIC!!!

I will be honest, this was the first Raymond E. Feist book I have read (Listened to) and then went onto At the Gates of Darkness, I absolutly loved the two books, with Peter Joyce narrating them made it just as good too. I am so hungry for more, WHY is there none Raymond E Feist's other books on this site? I WANT MORE lol I highly recomend this book and book 2 'At the Gates of Darkness'

Rides a Dread Legion

A marvellous example of Raymond E Feist's fantasy story craft. The many disparate characters are seamlessly interwoven into a story that keeps you literally spellbound. Having read most of Feist's earlier works this is up there with the best. Throughout the novel there are tantalising references to previous adventures. It's a shame they aren't yet available to listen to. Can't wait to experience these past favourites if and when they become available on audible.

Stop with the season finale endings!

I feel like I've been subjected to an episode of a prime-time tv program yet again. I was happy enough with the content of the first book in this series, but found the ending too abrupt and several plot factors unreconciled. Book Two in the series achieved the same results, though in a more dramatic suspended climax.

As a whole, this volume in the series was more enjoyable than the first, despite my previously mentioned frustration(s). Instead of a drawn out series of strained interactions between the hero and his guide in a world he doesn't belong to, this book provides more depth via delivery of the storylines of several characters that held smaller roles in Dark Lord.

If I were to have any chief complaint beyond the cliffhanger ending, it would be the [ahem] physical interactions between amorous characters throughout the tale. I don't know if it's meant to be a reflection of the darker/rougher nature of the characters portrayed, or if the author feels that fantasy novel readers really believe that physical interactions really do play out in this manner with every coupling.

As with the first novel, I'd recommend the book - despite my disappointment with the ending.

Disappointing Narration

I really enjoyed Mistress and was very eager to start Master of Dragons but I was so put off by the narrators annoying voice, I have not been able to get very far in this book unfortunately I also have the third one. I'm sure the story is wonderful but her voice and vocal variations she used were annoying. The voice she used for girl the Prince has with him in the beginning was so obnoxious I quit listening. I will probably buy the paperback so that I can continue with the story.

Narration is TERRIBLE

The narration for this trilogy has gotten worse with each book. The reason they chose to change narrators each time is beyond me. This latest narrator is horrible. Making any male character sound like an angry Lollipop Kid from the Wizard of Oz. Even the female voices were irritating. Not only did her voice for the Prince sound terrible and unlike any male I've heard in my life, but she read the character as if everything he said was robotic and stunted. I'd suggest you read the book...not listen to it.

Great Trilogy

Last book put it all together. Excellent ending, kept me captivated. Another well-written seires by Weis!

Mixed feelings...

I was really looking forward to this book and the conclusion of the Dragonvarld story arc. The story itself is sound and draws you into it and progresses well. The story does draw you in such that you look forward to hearing what will happen next and hear the rest of the story. I really do hope that we get to see more in this world and that it does not end with this book.

Narration wise, I felt that the narrator did an excellent job portraying the story and did well with the majority of the female voices. However, I found Suzanne's portrayal of the male voices left me wanting. I would have almost preferred the narrator just read the male parts normally instead of attempting to portray the male characters with unique voices as she has an excellent and eloquent reading voice.

I felt after a short while that I almost wanted to cringe during the male narrative sequences and often found it difficult to imagine them as males at all. It made me think of the war of a bunch of munchkins marching off to battle the dragons and that image often times made it seem almost humorous.

Same ol' same ol'

This book is not too original. I have read it before, oh so many times. The narator's voice is monotonous.

Lots of Gore with an occasional story

The book seems like it was written by a video game developer. Lots of long horribly detailed battles, hundreds of detailed descriptions of people dying and oh yeah, occasionally a tiny little story, just enough to link the battles together.

I am soooooo sick of mages that die, but then really don't die. Some of them have died gory deaths 3-4 times and this is only the second book.

Blah

This is the most uninspired reading of an audiobook I have ever tried to listen to. I felt like I was back in high school Economics class. The story might have been great but this was the most boring narrator I have EVER heard. I found my mind wandering multiple times just during the first hour or so of this and finally just turned it off. Don't waste your money!

Stuart Langston the king of drone

Stuart Langston the king of drone. What a totally boring narrator, he totally ruins a good book.

I thought it was being read by the computer narrator sam.

Don't bother listening to this crap.

Enjoyed the Book

The narration might be a little tough to get use to but the book is well worth adjusting your listening skills. I just downloaded the last two books and can't wait to listen to them.
