    Publisher's Summary:
The thrilling conclusion to the internationally best-selling Long Earth series explores the greatest question of all: What is the meaning of life?
It's 2070-71. Nearly six decades after Step Day, a new society continues to evolve in the Long Earth. Now, a message has been received: "Join us".
The Next - the hyperintelligent posthumans - realize that the missive contains instructions for kick-starting the development of an immense artificial intelligence known as The Machine. But to build this computer the size of an Earth continent, they must obtain help from the more populous and still industrious worlds of mankind.
Meanwhile, on a trek in the High Meggers, Joshua Valienté, now nearing 70, is saved from death when a troll band discovers him. Living among the trolls as he recovers, Joshua develops a deeper understanding of this collective-intelligence species and its society. He discovers that some older trolls with capacious memories act as communal libraries and live on a very strange Long Earth world, in caverns under the root systems of trees as tall as mountains.
Valienté also learns something much more profound about life and its purpose in the Long Earth: We cultivate the cosmos to maximize the opportunities for life and joy in this universe - and to prepare for new universes to come.

    Love this series
I like this Story from beginning to end. I've loved every book in this series. Very complex story and characters with great personality.
    Great series
I really love the long earth series. I recommend this series to anyone. Thank you Stephen Baxter and the late great Terry Pratchett for letting me explore the long earth. The narrator was perfect. If your looking to escape your world for a bit look no further. Hi Sarah and John.
A little weak to be honest.
I have referred to the Long Earth series as comfort food. Even though none of the subsequent books in the series matched the first, happens all too often, I still thoroughly enjoyed the ride.
And not being as good isn't necessarily a bad thing. Book one may have got an 8 out of 10. A 7 for the subsequent books still isn't that bad.
But this final chapter in the series gets a 6 I'm afraid.
All of the elements are there. Excellent narration, familiar characters. But as readers, and listeners, we're looking for something. We don't necessarily want the real world, or as its presented to us, we want something more.
A fictional work is the perfect platform to make assertions about existence that may not be well received by those who are asleep at the wheel. They don't read this stuff anyway.
This series felt as though it was building to something, but in the end did not take the risk.
Or, if it was there I missed it.
    Equal crimes in my opinion.
Good but not as good as the others in series
The performance was great but story was a bit lackluster compared to previous books in series. Still worth getting if you have read the others.
good wrap up to an interesting series
for the trilogy... a completely unique take on how humanity travels off Earth and expands through the cosmos.

Already heard it Paid for it anyway It's that good
I listened to the free podcast version narrated by the author. I liked it so much I paid for the audible version.
Nathan Lowell is really a great narrator. His podcast versions convey a sense of emotion that made me feel like I was really getting the intention of his stories. Jeffrey Kafer brings his own flavor that agrees with the authors reading.
Now I am waiting for the rest of the stories.
    It's not Quarter Share!
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
I loved the first book. While this book has some of the same great elements - it got too weird for me.
What do you think your next listen will be?
Unfortunately, not full share. I had plans to listen to the whole series but I was disappointed with this second book.
Which character as performed by Jeffrey Kafer was your favorite?
Of course the star is my favorite character but Pip is a close second.
Did Half Share inspire you to do anything?
    No
    Any additional comments?
For me the change from a struggling but intelligent new comer to a worldly heart stopper was disappointing.
Ishmael Wang continues on the Lois McKendrick
In this second installment in the wonderful Solar Clipper series, Ishmael Horatio Wang is forced to leave the mess deck for Environmental. All the main characters from Quarter Share are still here, and we add a couple of new ones as well. Without giving anything away, this is a somewhat darker story, with significantly more actual peril than in Quarter Share. But it's still about the characters and about telling a _good story_, something that Nathan Lowell excels at.
Jeffrey Kafer's narration is good, with no over-dramatization and good pacing -- much in the style of the author's own reading of the book earlier as a podcast. Highly recommended, and I can't wait for the rest of the series
    great book!
an excellent book, very well read. A great sequel to quarter share, it makes you want the next one!
    Wake me when it's over
Whew. A lot of nothing happens
Repetitious, slowly paced and did I miss something on this "slow boat to China" book?

    A very good listen.
I don't usually write reviews, I normally just rate them, but this book was so unexpectedly different from what I thought it would be, I had to write.
I expected the book to be the same story from all the other books or movies, with different words and character names, but I was very surprised. The book was very good, I didn't want to pause it when I had to, and I stayed up until 6am just to finish it. If you like the Alien stuff, or Sci-fi stuff, I definitely recommend giving this book a go, my personal opinion was, it was very good, and very much worth the credit. Oh, and I hope you enjoy Alien: Out of the Shadows as much as I did.
    A Serviceable Aliens Story
I wasn't thrilled with "Alien: Out of the Shadows: Book 1" overall, but there's a lot that I liked about it.
The narrator is great. His voice seemed perfectly suited for the subject matter, and he performed a number of recognizable, credible male and female Voices. Jeff Harding's contribution is the highlight of the production.
Also, it's well-written. It's a testament to Lebbon's skill as an author that he's able to make the actual writing almost an afterthought--the writing is unobtrusive and serves the story perfectly.
However, I didn't find the story all that exciting. Lebbon knows how to write action, but there's quite a bit of downtime that never is as suspenseful as it could or should be.
Lastly, although I suspect it might have been a decision outside of the author's hands, I think the addition of movie characters Ripley and Ash into this story was particularly unfortunate, as I never believed that these canonical characters would be in any way changed by the time the story was through. But hey--no spoilers--maybe it turned out that I was wrong,.
if you like the franchise get this
my only complaint was too many ripley dreams, only needed 4 at most. but overall the story wad amazing, characters interesting, overall a great book, and a must have for any fan of the series.
    Amazing
Absolutely awesome experience. Starting chapters are a little too fast on content (need more time to like the characters), but otherwise really good.
excellent narration. big fan of the Alien series
loved it. great story. great app.great narration. looking to get the other series as soon as I'm done with this book.

Stories by John Ringo, Eric Flint, John Scalzi & Dave Klecha, Sarah A. Hoyt, Jody Lynn Nye, Michael Z. Williamson, and more.
The news that humanity had been dreading for ages had come true. Zombies are real. Worst of all, we created them. The apocalypse was upon us, and every man, woman, and child had to answer a simple question of themselves: "What do we do now?"
For a group of neighbors in the Chicago suburbs of Northern Indiana, it was "work together or die"...and figure out how to live on top of oil storage tanks to keep the zombies at bay. For the Biological Emergency Response Teams in New York City, it was "how long can we fight off the infected before it's too late?" as well as having to fight other groups all out to claim a dwindling stock of supplies and safety. And for a group of cheerleaders, it was about the end of their world. And about what happens when you get a group of physically fit young women really, really angry.
Featuring original stories from some of the brightest stars in the science fiction universe: John Ringo; Eric Flint; John Scalzi & Dave Klecha; Sarah A. Hoyt; Jody Lynn Nye; Michael Z. Williamson; Kacey Ezella - cheerleading coach, veteran, and helicopter pilot; and more.

    I DON'T LOOK GOOD IN A FEZ
BOY SCOUTS, BATH SALTS AND Logistics
A lot of these stories are Prepper Stories and some are action packed Zombie stories. Many are more deleted scenes than stories. Many don't have endings. Most are narrated by Tristan. Boys Scouts are mentioned often, along with Bath Salts. Some stories are all about the logistics of preparing for the Zombie Apocalypse. Like usual, Scalzi had the best story. I love Zombie stories, but it takes a master writer like Franklin Horton (The Borrowed World) to get me interested in Prepper stories. This is only for hard core bug out lovers.
DUCT TAPE IS THE BEST EVIDENCE THERE IS , THAT GOD REALLY EXISTS.
    read what your buying first.
I thought i was buying a continuation of book 4 but of course goes to a off shoot. John just can't finish up a good story. he writes great books just can't finish them. just leaves you hanging. like troy rising and kildar. great books but just leaves you out in the wind.
great stories in a great universe
this is the best zombie universe out there. as dark and bleak as walking dead, but with these stories it's not about the infected, or even about the survivors, it is about the human spirit.
You will find a story you
This is a good book and an excelent audio performance. The reason i gave it only four stars was that there were some stories i enjoyed a lot more than the others and I wanted them to be the whole book. Buy this book and you will find a story you love... and all of your dreams will come true.
Wished they took the last books further
The individual stories were fun but they lacked the depth and development this story needs. The last book had awesome characters and they were added in to legitimize this tying in with the rest of the series.

The corporate coalition party Heritage has won the last two elections. With another election on the horizon, the Supermajority is in tight contention, and everything's on the line.
With power comes corruption. For Ken, this is his chance to do right by the idealistic Policy1st party and get a steady job in the big leagues. For Mishima, a dangerous Information operative, the whole situation is a puzzle: How do you keep the wheels running on the biggest political experiment of all time when so many have so much to gain?
Infomocracy is Malka Older's debut novel.

    Good story, bad narration
I found the story very engaging and enjoyed it a lot, however I never could quite get immersed in it, mostly because of the narrator's constant mispronunciation of the Japanese names (which make up about half of the characters), as well as fairly poor attempts at various accents.
Pattern Recognition-Snow Crash Remix. So good!
Feels like diving headfirst into a mash-up of early Neal Stephenson (think Snow Crash) and William Gibson (think Neuromancer or Pattern Recognition). Good fast clean cyberpunk fun with just enough twistiness and interesting reality to get your brain going.
    non stop thriller
older takes you on a wild unforgettable ride! best book of the summer! str8 up!
    Not enough excitement
Lots of great character development. Lots of great context setting. Very good narration. Just not enough happening.
At heart, this novel is a political thriller
Infomocracy by Malka Ann Older is a science fiction and political thriller set in the future where an entity, called Information, controls all information and search engines. In this world, government has transitioned from nations to micro-democracies, with many different kinds of governance, corporate and otherwise, over small population Centenals. Members Reviews:
Great series with action, adventure and humour
Thoroughly enjoyed Dark Sky, second book in the space opera series aboard the space ship Keiko. I like dour, conscienceless Ichabod Drift and his well mixed human crew, just about getting by with very dodgy but correspondingly well paid work. Naturally this leads to complications and so far they have made a quite a few enemies around the universe they operate in. Expecting these to turn up again in the future to extract revenge. All the crew have a complicated back story, some previous secrets revealed in the first book Dark Run, more coming out here in Dark Sky, but still much unknown.
It is a pretty grim universe in general, with rather basic terra formed way stations between industrial planets. There are luxuries for the wealthy but everyone else out for what they can get to survive. An overriding harshly authoritarian governing body seems to be in general control, but to be honest I found this far more realistic than a future universe of sweetness and light. Despite this there is good humour among the crew and the crazy situations they land up with.
This was great fun to listen to, read by one of the best possible SFF narrators, Damian Lynch, and his accents for the different nationalities were perfect, and he did full justice to author's well rounded characters . Specially delighted to have a big Maori around for a change. This series has me hooked and looking forward to more. Thanks Mike Brooks, please keep them coming. (less)
Not as interesting as first book
The first book had the advantage of character development. There was a bit of that in this one but not enough. Additionally not as much of a mystery as the first book. Too straightforward for my tastes.
Keeps getting better (Firefly fans will like it)
Great follow up to the first book. Flashbacks to the first one are well done,; well balanced. You can read this one with out having read the first and it would be enjoyable. Hope this series keeps going. Can't wait for the crews next adventure.

That thing is growing again. We must destroy it. The time to act is now....
With these words begins Gideon Crew's latest, most dangerous, most high-stakes assignment yet. Failure will mean nothing short of the end of humankind on Earth.
Five years ago, the mysterious and inscrutable head of Effective Engineering Solutions, Eli Glinn, led a mission to recover a gigantic meteorite - the largest ever discovered - from a remote island off the coast of South America. The mission ended in disaster when their ship, the Rolvaag, foundered in a vicious storm in the Antarctic waters and broke apart, sinking - along with its unique cargo - to the ocean floor. One hundred and eight crew members perished, and Eli Glinn was left paralyzed.
But this was not all. The tragedy revealed something truly terrifying: the meteorite they tried to retrieve was not, in fact, simply a rock. Instead it was a complex organism from the deep reaches of space.
Now that organism has implanted itself in the seabed two miles below the surface - and it is growing. If it is not destroyed, the planet will be doomed. There is only one hope: for Glinn and his team to annihilate it, a task that requires Gideon's expertise with nuclear weapons. But as Gideon and his colleagues soon discover, the "meteorite" has a mind of its own - and it has no intention of going quietly....
    Critic Reviews:
"[Narrator David W.] Collins voices the story dramatically.... Listeners will feel like they're there, drawn into the intriguing plot." (AudioFile)
    Members Reviews:
    Not quite what I expected...
Don't get me wrong, on its own, this would be a decent, if forgettable, novel. Unfortunately, this novel is possibly a conclusion to two separate story lines by these same authors. As such, this novel had a lot to live up to, and seemed to fall short of what I've come to expect. The novel feels unfinished, as if several chapters were left on the editing room floor.
The following will spoil some parts of the book, so read at your own risk...
Works by Preston & Childs often have an emotional man vs self theme woven throughout the novel, nicely paralleling the main plotline and dovetailing with it nicely to affect the climax of the book.
For the first 3/4 of the book, this seems to be set up to occur. Gideon struggles to cope with the death of his lover, Sam arrives to challenge Eli's decisions, and Eli himself acts irrationally, hinting at a buried motivation or possible infection. None of the things affect the ending of the book, and it makes the entire novel feel unfinished.
    Beyond My Limit
Butts out boring. Void of creativity; a conglomeration of everything that's been done to death. There was a time I waited for Preston/Child's new books for some easy reading entertainment. Then I found myself waiting hopefully to see if they could recapture the magic. Even the writing in this one seems hurried and amateurish. Zero character development or growth from the original book. A note from the authors follows the ending...saying this was requested by readers of The Ice Limit, the pair stated they hoped those readers found this follow-up book enjoyable.

That makes my life difficult. It also makes me dangerous.
The Sudden Appearance of Hope is an unforgettable tale of one woman's quest for identity.

    Members Reviews:
    Thought-provoking, heartbreaking, memorable
Would you consider the audio edition of The Sudden Appearance of Hope to be better than the print version?
I haven't read it in print, but the narrator was excellent and many internal dialogs seem like the kind of material that works better spoken then read.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Hope sitting outside of her parents' house and looking in, running through how she could interact with her mother, yet knowing they would not remember her, was incredibly sad. On the flip side, it was bittersweet to realize that her younger sister (who had a mental disability) could remember her and when they reconnect later in the book, you feel a sliver of hope for human connection.
    Any additional comments?
I found this book engrossing almost immediately. Claire North has a knack for giving her characters depth and feeling and normalcy, while simultaneously providing them one isolating and inalienable oddity that makes them other and apart from the rest of humanity. The peculiarity of the protagonist of the book, the eponymous Hope, is that she is not memorable. On first glance, this seems a minor thing - but this does not mean she is ordinary or has a common face or just isn't all that interesting. It means, as she approached her 16th birthday, people who had known her all her life, slowly began to forget her. Forget she was in the room, forget she was in the house, forget she went to your school, and eventually, entirely forgot who she was. She would flit away from one's short term memory and never imprint on one's long term memory. Her mother and father forgot who she was. And what seems a simple conceit - a main character who people can't remember - becomes a central pivot to explore loneliness and relationships and society and what it means to be human. If no one remembers you, you can't hold down a normal job or get regular care at a hospital, you can't date or make friends, you are forever an unknown quantity and unmoored to your surroundings. In response to this inability to attach to anyone, Hope becomes an accomplished thief (usually of jewels) and makes her way in the world, filling the spaces where human interaction would be with knowledge and trying to stay connected to sanity through discipline and professionalism.
North takes this epic plot twist, this woman who technology remembers (CCTV, online chats, etc.) but everyone else forgets, and adds in another character, albeit one that is purely technology. The book pairs Hope's daily life with a larger plot involving an app called Perfection.

    Nathan vs Jeffrey
I downloaded these stories some time ago directly from Nathan's page. They were free, so I gave them a chance and was pleasantly surprised at how the story carried forward.
*** This is not a cut at Jeffrey. His performance was nicely done. However, Nathan's reading was exceptional. I was surprised to find that you hadn't used his.
I have no personal experience with the civilian side of nautical service, but think this might be a good rendition of the merchant marine concept taken to space faring. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
    Good But Not Nathan Lowell
What did you love best about Quarter Share?
I adore these stories. I've listened to them for years and I own the hard copies! The overall story line would have to be what I love most.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Ishmael is the main character but I have always loved Cookie.
Would you listen to another book narrated by Jeffrey Kafer?
    Yes.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
    Yes
    Any additional comments?
Like I said, I love these books. However, I feel that Audible/Jeffrey Kafer dropped the ball a bit on the recording details. I have listed to Nathan Lowell's performance of these books and Mr. Kafer is mispronouncing many of the names and descriptive words. I would have hoped that the performer would have talked to the author of the book to see how to pronounce the "odd ball" items. It kills me to be expecting "Roo-by-a" and hear "Roob".
    An Easy Listen
Where does Quarter Share rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
I am a big fan of all of the Tale's from the Golden Age of the Solar Clipper, and Quarter Share was my introduction to this universe. This was the first time I've seen a slice of life style story set in a sci-fi world. Normally, if there are spaceships there are either aliens, and/or war. And those stories have a place in my heart, but until I first listened to Quarter Share, I had no idea I even WANTED a story about the day to day life of a furturistic merchant marine. Now I've looked for others, but have yet to find one that compares to this series. There is something timeless about the story, so that, if not for the occasional tech, and science talk, Ish's story feels like it could take place in any time or place, be it today, or 200 years ago. Also, the further the series goes along, the more you feel like your looking at the early years of some great and important figure, and learning how he found his ideals and beliefs.
What did you like best about this story?
I like the timelessness of the story. I also like the spirit of cooperation this story inspires. Ish doesn't set out to change the spacer culture, or to make Pip a better crewman.

A solid gritty story of a superhero fiction
Would you listen to Wild Cards V: Down and Dirty again? Why?
    This is my second read.
What did you like best about this story?
The gang war is excellent and well constructed. There is a fictional concert involving Buddy Holly,U2, Bruce Springsteen, and a range of the other artists. That section is remarkably satisfying.
What three words best describe the narratorss performance?
    Largely pretty good
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
    Yes.
    Any additional comments?
A couple of the Narrators were better than others, but overall I enjoyed it. This is not my favorite Wildcard book, but the parts that hit well are on par with the best of the series.
    Enjoyable series
If you're already a fan of the Wild Card series and a lover of GRRM then you will probably really enjoy this book.
    Amazing Story
The story is great but the voices are not very good in this series. It seems to get better as you get through but can be really bad in parts.
    is this the end?
I am sad that I don't see anymore audio books in the series. I have really enjoyed the adventures and hope to find out more about the story. loved it
    Fragmented but good
Croyd is my favorite character, so more of him is always good. The physical fights between aces was awesome. The biggest con of listening to these is the lack of emotion from some of the female narrators. Overall, I like this book more than the last. Hurry up and make more of these books availible on audible!
