    Publisher's Summary:
Out of the ashes of a devastated Woodbury, Georgia, two opposing camps of ragtag survivors develop - each one on a collision course with the other.
Underground, in the labyrinth of ancient tunnels and mine shafts, Lilly Caul and her motley crew of senior citizens, misfits, and children struggle to build a new life. But a secret ambition still burns in Lilly's heart and soul. She wants her beloved town of Woodbury back from the plague of walkers, and now the only thing that stands in her way currently roams the wasted backwaters of Georgia....
Way out in the hinterlands, amid the rising tide of walkers that seem to be pushing in from all directions, the psychotic Reverend Jeremiah Garlitz rebuilds his army of followers with a diabolical secret weapon. He has designs on the destruction of Lilly and her crew - the very people who vanquished his cultish church - and now, for the first time, he has the means to bring a special brand of hell down upon the tunnel dwellers.
The final confrontation between these two human factions unleashes an unthinkable weapon - forged from the monstrous hordes of undead, perfected by a madman, and soaked in the blood of innocents.
From the creator of the TV sensation The Walking Dead comes the next installment in this terrifying and completely original series, where the legions of the dead come alive to carve out their domain.
    Critic Reviews:
"Narrator Fred Berman paints a gory picture of life for the people of Woodbury who haven't yet been eaten by zombies.... This audio production doesn't encroach on either the television show or the comic series. Instead, it creates its own mythology using people on the fringes." (

    Good not great!!!!
This installment of the books, is okay at best. the first book the rise of the governor will always be the best story! It's just gotten to a point where how much more can they go on with lily caul, and the story is always the same! More zombies more herds, bring back the same villain, they need something new and exciting to write. The book didn't get remotely good till the last 2 hrs I'd say. If your a walking dead fan like me then get it because if your a fan you'll always wanna know what happened next. I hope if they do another book it will feature diffrent characters, or even location how about possibly New York or London anyways 3 out of 5 stars!!!!!!!!
    Well written zombie king theme
Of all the stories of someone leading an army of zombies, this is the only one that was good. The author made a great effort to give a believable background and motivation of why this crazy preacher is doing what he is doing, his methods and why humans are following him too. It worked. Great character depth, twists and I like Lilly again, not like in the last book. Satisfying ending. Looking forward to the next book, how can they survive now?
    Best walking dead novel.
I've been a die hard walking dead novel listener. I've listen to each one a couple of times. This one was the best. This book was a exciting.
    Entertaining story
I really like the reader of this series. I appreciate that the same voice is telling the story. But ... this series is addicting and well written. I have been glued to what is going to happen next to our heroine.

    Publisher's Summary:
In the year 2420, war looms between the galaxy's two most powerful empires: the tyrannical Theocracy and the protectionist Commonwealth. Caught in the middle sits the occupied outpost system Cadiz, where young officer and aristocrat Katherine "Kat" Falcone finds herself prematurely promoted at the behest of her powerful father. Against her own wishes, Kat is sent to command the Commonwealth navy's newest warship, Lightning.
Determined to prove she has value beyond her family name, Kat struggles to earn her crew's respect and find her footing as the youngest captain in naval history. She soon discovers the situation on Cadiz is even worse than anyone in power anticipated. War isn't just a possibility - it is imminent. Yet the admiral in position to bolster defenses refuses to prepare for a fight. Can Kat find a way to investigate the enemy, alert the Commonwealth, and whip an entire fleet into fighting shape before the Theocracy's war machine destroys everything she holds dear?

This is more of an Honor Harrington reboot
It still was a good listen. I felt the narration was sub par. it took some getting used to,
Narrators never up to Nuttall's stories
This is the first in a very promising series. Nuttall is a fine writer. Here the conflict is between a "normal" government and one of religious fanaticals. The religion looks like some we know, but is never specifically paralleled. And then there is a traitor among the good guys. There are terrific battles, and some minor philosophical discussion about whether one conqueror should be any better than another. I enjoyed the story and the promise of more to come.
However, here are my gripes. Katherine--Kat-- is promoted to the captaincy of the Lightning. She is too young and too inexperienced, but her aristocratic father managed it. This causes some tension between her and the much older second in command, the XO. He is not happy to have been overlooked for this position. However, this tension simply fizzles away as Capt. Kat proves to be capable. It seemed all too smooth and easy. But that is acceptable, we can shrug it off. The story is well developed, and engaging.
But then there is the narration. (Ark Royal's narrator drove me to quit the series.) I hate to diss people at their work, but this lady needs a new career. Her normal voice is light and breathy, probably suited for fairy tales, but then she couldn't do an ogre. Her hyper-correct pronunciation of the plosives (p,t,k especially) causes extra syllables such as "lookt uh down" that were distracting at best, and actually confusing at times. Her male voices are terrible, just scratchy low, and then they are inconsistent-- people's voices changed. The females sounded kittenish. The best voice was the enemy cleric, a simpering, snide snake of a person. I quite enjoyed him.
Other than that, editors should have caught things like:
    A. non sequiturs:
    1. "I'd bet that isn't a coincidence."
    "Me neither."
    2. Her father should have understood. Or perhaps he didn't.
    B. grammar
    1. Another explosion rung out.
    C. wrong words
    1. they should hide in uncharted asteroid habits.
    D. pointing to the title
    1. "the oncoming storm" is said at least 3 times in the book. Once would have been questionably acceptable.

    problems with sound quality
What do you think the narrator could have done better?
My only problem with this book is with the sound quality. While the narrator, Todd McLaren is excellent, when he speaks in the character's interior voices he whispers & it is difficult to hear, especially when listening in the car. I found myself constantly adjusting the volume when he switched between the modes of voice.
    Continues the story
To begin I've read all the books in this series as well as the "Nantucket" series before that, so obviously I enjoy his style and storytelling. But ,and I too hate when someone is full of praise for something and then drops a "but", for all of that there are times that the premise that for the good of mankind a "higher" power wipes out 99% of the world's population and leaves those remaining forever in a state feudal agrarianism, or at least until the next asteroid can be a little grating.
    Hopscotch through a long story
Long book with major sections cut out so it wasn't two books.
First part of the book flowed normally building up to a major battle with different side stories involved.
Then it's like he realized "I've got to finish the rest of the story in XXX pages. " and they suddenly start skipping from scene to scene to be able to finish the book without splitting it into another volume.
Each cut scene will stop and have some meat to it and then jump to another scene.
Love his books. But I'd like to have the missing sections of this one back.
Good story, but the ending is FLAT after all the buildup. It was like a Star Trek episode where the director is told, "BTW, you've got 3 mins to wrap this story up." And that's about how long it took to wrap up a 21hr audiobook. Which is a disgrace to the reader.
    So So
I've enjoyed this series, but this most recent series wasn't up to previous standards... The story dragged and wallowied, while not bringing much new to the series quest... That being said, the writing was quite good, and the settings were vividly described... The quest and its characters remain intriguing, if running in a place a bit...

On her maiden voyage, HMS Warspite discovered Vesy, a world populated by primitive aliens, aliens whose culture had already been twisted and warped by human refugees from the First Interstellar War. Now Captain John Naiser and his crew spearhead a diplomat mission to the alien homeworld, hoping to ease them into the galactic mainstream. But with hundreds of others hoping to influence and shape the developing alien culture and all hell threatening to break loose as human ideals meet alien realities, events on Vesy might just mark the start of a new interstellar conflict....
And a civil war that will tear the human sphere apart.
    Members Reviews:
    India on the Move
Captain John Naiser and the crew of HMS Warspite are back on Vesy with the newly appointed Ambassador to Vesy. In the prior book Naiser and crew had discovered a world (Vesy) populated by primitive aliens. The Russians were already on the planet when Warspite arrived.
When Warspite returned they found many countries of Earth already there with India having the largest contingency. India wants to control the plant and all the tram lines in the system.
The book moves very slowly and bogs down in political rhetoric which in many ways makes it boring. Nuttall usually writes a fast paced action packed story, this is not his usual writing style. I did note the irony of the British/India twist. Ralph Lister does a good job narrating the story.
The evolution of this story is stupid
i have enjoyed earlier books in this series but after a major interstellar war i find it hard to imagine a bunch of nastiness and factions squabbling over control of a new planet with a new alien presence...
maybe our species will remain as stupid and idiotic as we are today but i hope not and really are not interested in continuing this adventure...there is enough idiocy today... and the story line had lost its magic
Can't put myself through another book of series...
I've read the entire series, but the author seems to have lost his interest and his focus... dives into the minutiae where it doesn't need to and looses focus on the main plot lines when he does. Every once in awhile there is something of interest, but it's few and far between. I simply can't put myself through another of these books. Lost interest....
    A disapointing let down.
Is there anything you would change about this book?
The entire story should not be focused on the politics of earth and space at all.
What could Christopher G. Nuttall have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
Stick to the action based story line that got the story line going in the first place.
Have you listened to any of Ralph Listers other performances before? How does this one compare?
Ralph's performance was the best thing about this book!
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
    NO!
    Any additional comments?
If I had not already bought the next book I would probably not purchase it after reading this one. The politics are not what has kept me interested in the Ark Royal series.
    staring to loose interest
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
yes and no depended what section of the book
What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)
    I seen it coming
Was A Savage War of Peace worth the listening time?
    it passed the time
    Any additional comments?
I am comparing this series to the previous.

    Excellent follow up/conclusion (?)
An excellent follow up to the original. Great work Mr. Kay. I was not expecting this series to be as good as you have made it. Great stroy.
    Another Great story
Really enjoyed this second book. The battles get more intense, the characters continue to grow, and the War Begins.
Excellent series. Is the 3rd book imminent?
This is an excellent series. It is well written and it reminds me of my Navy training days. I'm pretty sure the protagonist should have ptsd by now. In addition, how will Tanner ever meet Miranda or Kelly on the same level without a commission?
    Masterfully Executed
This second installment was phenomenal. The absolutely immersive interstellar saga had me so engrossed that I can hardly wait for part three.
This series gets better and better
Yes, it's a middle series book. No, it's not boring. This series impresses me. There's a hidden depth to the plotting, the characters are well developed and not static, the politics are more mature and the description of corporate intrigue are given more thought than the generic corporate bad guy in an SF novel. Oh, and the battles continue to be fast paced and brutal.

More of the Same - And That's a Good Thing!
The alternate world that our heroes have fallen in has now expanded to the full globe. The author is able to bring in different areas of the planet and the groups that live there. I would normally be hoping that the series would end while the author is on top of his game, but each book has the same quality of story telling. That seems like a difficult thing to do, but Anderson does it nonetheless. If one is familiar with the series, the reader may recall that some of the books are links in the chain that fill the gaps in the story. This is one of those types of books in the series that appears to be setting up the next novel. It has plenty of action, but one can tell the next book is going to be special. By the way, in cannot be overstated how great a job the narrator does. William Dufris is a very gifted individual and after ten books, I can tell exactly which character is speaking due to his talented voice. Some reviewers think this ought to be made into a movie, and I'm sure it could be, but the performance that Dufris gives makes any visual movie superfluous. Now it is time to wait for the next book to come out.
    I can't wait another year.
Loved 10 and can't wait for 11. The best series I've read. If you want to meet a great cast of characters start listening now.
    no resolution.
Still a well written book. I just wish one of the plot lines would have had some resolution. This was just more plot & mystery building.
Great writing and narration make this a big winner
If you could sum up Destroyermen: Straits of Hell in three words, what would they be?
    super listening fun
    Any additional comments?
Throughout the series once I started a new book, I was unable to put it down. This is another one of those. The constant change in the narrators voice brings every character to life. Since I wrote Adjuster Stories, I can appreciate more and more how difficult writing can be. How Mr. Anderson can keep all of the characters ( so many) in the book doing whatever they do is amazing.
As usual, I was sad when I finished the audio because now it is another year to wait until the next book arrives. May time pass quickly.
    Great listen
Great book, the narrator really brings life to the characters. I can't wait for the next one!!

    Publisher's Summary:
Captain Mitchell "Ares" Williams is a space marine and the hero of the Battle for Liberty, whose shot heard 'round the universe saved the planet from a nearly unstoppable war machine. He's handsome, charismatic, and the perfect poster boy to help the military drive enlistment. Pulled from the war and thrown into the spotlight, he's as efficient at charming the media and bedding beautiful celebrities as he was at shooting down enemy starfighters.
After an assassination attempt leaves Mitchell critically wounded, he begins to suffer from strange hallucinations that carry a chilling and oddly familiar warning:
They are coming. Find the Goliath, or humankind will be destroyed.
Convinced that the visions are a side effect of his injuries, he tries to ignore them only to learn that he may not be as crazy as he thinks. The enemy is real and closer than he imagined, and they'll do whatever it takes to prevent him from rediscovering the centuries-lost starship.
Narrowly escaping capture, out of time and out of air, Mitchell lands at the mercy of the Riggers - a ragtag crew of former commandos who patrol the lawless outer reaches of the galaxy. Guided by a captain with a reputation for cold-blooded murder, they're dangerous, immoral, and possibly insane.
They may also be humanity's last hope for survival in a war that has raged beyond eternity.

Amazing Start for a New Series. Great Sci-fi.
I thought that this was an excellent audiobook. It was original, unpredictable, well performed, left me excited for the next book in the series.
The Starship Eternal storyline held elements similar to 2 other book series (Though, in my opinion, it had a much better execution).
The first is The Lost Starship series by Vaughn Heppner. The similarity here is the overall story concept that involves the main character looking for a "lost ship" that may hold the key to defeating a new and deadly threat.
The Synchronicity War series by Dietmar Wehr was the other series that came to mind, with story that involves time traveling messages.
Now, normally I'm not a fan of stories that involve time travel, but this one included it as only a part of the overall plot without making it seem too unrealistic (in my opinion) and is still able to keep all of the space space battles and other great sci-fi content.
The story starts with a marine who was recently involved in a massive space battle. It should have been a total defeat, but thanks to a design flaw in a new enemy ship and a lucky shot by the main character it became a last minute win. Now a hero, the military has assigned him to public relations duty. Hes sent around to talk shows, recruiting drives, and dinners with famous people. He begins to fall into a deep depression due to the loss of the rest of his unit, including his lover.
After a misunderstanding involves him being framed for the rape of the prime ministers wife, a stranger helps him escape the planet. The stranger turns out to be a future version of himself, and tells him that he came from a different timeline to save him and alter future events. If the main character cant find a ship that dates back to the early days of earth (called the Goliath), then the human race will be destroyed by a new mysterious enemy.
He escapes the planet in a small modified fighter, and is picked up by an old mining ship.

As Earth struggles to recover from the bombardment, Captain John Naiser is placed in command of HMS Warspite - an experimental heavy cruiser - and ordered to escort a squadron of colony ships to a star system of immense strategic importance. But as the crew struggle to survive hundreds of light years from Earth, they find themselves dealing with the legacy of the war...and a threat that may sow the seeds of renewed conflict or a deadly civil war that will rip the human sphere apart.
Like my self-published Kindle books, Warspite is DRM-free. You may reformat it as you choose. There is a large sample of the text - and my other books - on my site: chrishanger.net. Try before you buy.

    absorbing
This book picks up where the Ark Royal trilogy ended. This could be a standalone book or a beginning of the new series.
The first interstellar war is over. The Royal Navy is rebuilding and has lots of work to do. The earth is struggling to recover from the war. Our new protagonist is Captain John Naiser who is Commander of HMS Warspite, an experimental heavy cruiser. HMS Warspite is ordered to escort a squadron of colony ships to a star system of strategic importance to Earth.
Nuttall provides us with space pirates; tension building among the colonist in what might become a civil war. The story provides action, humor and some interesting developments for future stories. The story has both space battles and ground battles. We are introduced to a new human like aliens that are still in a primitive state.
Nuttall has made in my opinion a couple of gross mistakes that would never happen in any military in the world , and as far as I am concerned not even in military Sci-Fi. The first error is a corporal never out ranks a sergeant and the other error; never would a civilian been given a military rank and made the executive officer of a ship.
It looks as if Nuttall is launching another series. I will be in line to buy the next book if this becomes a series. Nuttall has created a couple of interesting characters I would like to learn more about. Ralph Lister narrated the book.
    Can't wait for next one
All though not quit as intense as the others it keeps you wanting more. Intriguing character and multi store lines. Some thing were predictable more so than previous. Warspite II has got at least 3 possible story lines from this book. Can't wait to see which one comes out.
    The Saga continues
Would you listen to Warspite again? Why?
Yes, in fact plan on listening to all 4 books again
What did you like best about this story?
The blend of science, military action and future look into humanity
Have you listened to any of Ralph Listers other performances before? How does this one compare?
    Yes, outstanding as always
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
    Not Star Wars!!!
Taking a great world/story and revitalizing it.
Where does Warspite rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
I love Ralph Lister's narration, and the Nuttall's ability to weave an interesting story is impressive.

A group of adventurers searching for a cure for comatose children find themselves trapped in a sequence of virtual worlds, the only opponents of a conspiracy of the rich to live forever in a dream. Now, they are forced to make an uneasy alliance with their only surviving former enemy against his treacherous sidekick Johnny Wulgaru, a serial killer with a chance to play God forever.
Few science fiction sagas have achieved the level of critical acclaim - and best-selling popularity - as Tad Williams' Otherland novels. A brilliant blend of science fiction, fantasy, and technothriller, it is a rich, multilayered epic of future possibilities.

Too long, and not long enough
Yay! Im finally finished with Otherland. And Boo! Im already finished with Otherland.
This fourth book is the longest of the series. Some parts of it feel too long.
The Otherland system is dying. The operating system (the Other) and John Wulgaru are locked in a duel to control the network. For most of the book it appears that Wulgaru, aka Dread, will eventually win and torture all the brave adventurers we have been following throughout the series to death, on line and off. It takes the resources of everyone to finally defeat both him and Felix Jongleur. Meanwhile, the company of adventurers is split up in new and non-intuitive ways as they wander through dark, empty, and largely undefined spaces whose monotony is broken only by the seemingly limitless array of monsters Dread manages to conjure up.
In the end, the on-line adventurers finally manage to unravel the whole story of Otherland, and their off-line helpers manage to destroy Jongleur and his associates and send Dread to a state that inescapably manages to remind one of falling alive into the Hell of Incessant Suffering.
As always, George Newbern manages to keep the story interesting even through the painfully long parts of minimal progress.
Perfect end for an Incredible Series.
While this book series can get abstract in its description at times, I am intensely happy I read (listened) to this series. I believe this book wrap up of the MANY characters storylines was the most thorough I have ever known. Which makes sense because the series was 4 large volumes long. And the narrator, George Newbern, was excellent. I felt this was like Battlefield Earth that had a large cast of people to act all the voices. But the Astounding thing was it was just one person. A MUST read/listen. Cant recommend highly enough!
    what a conclusion
shame the dreamy otherland / daw audio jingle/tune that appeared at the end of books 1,2 and 3 isnt there.
unexpected developments and dialogues until the very last chapter, very nice !
    Wonderful, mesmerizing story,
I wish there was more story! I find it amazing how predictive this is, we may not be too far off from virtual online worlds, and what will happen to humanity? Great series and narration!
The perfect conclusion of a fantastic story
I adore these books and the narrator was so diverse with his accents I would keep forgetting it was only one person. an amazing audio book experience
