This ended up a little risky for me, but in his situation, I figured he deserved a little hooch to wash down his bread and beans.

As Finn and Calvery become close, Calvery makes a final request of Calvery. The plot of Thin Places twist and turn, as redemption and betrayal, love and loss all pay a part, as do ghosts â both of those lost and memories of the past.

Overall, it took me a while to get into the book. Maybe because I really didnât care for Finn at first. I mean, really didnât care for Finn. And other than Chloe, I couldnât engage with the other characters, so I sat it down for too long.

The story, although it started out a bit slow to me. I ended up really liking the main character. He had a moral base and was not a 'super hero' type.

Raise your hand if you know how to pronounce DECLAN. That would be a whole lot of you. But this narrator pronounces it DE-CLAN. Really?

I just can't listen to this narrator, and I'm only on page 8. No matter who talks they all sound like her.

I'll finish the book by just reading reading it.

This kind of reader is just unfair to the author.

I gave it 3 stars for Story and Overall because I'm not finishing it and

I'm sure it would have been a good book, if not for the narration.

Sorry, Ms. Forest but if you're going to be a narrator you need to learn

how to perform. Especially how to lower your voice to sound a little manly.

Tip your taxi driver, and your novelist.

Brilliant writer. Surreal, moody, exciting, unpretentious, and most of all - entertaining. I am not surprised Hage has been shortlisted for the top literary prizes. He is that good. This novel will also make you appreciate taxi drivers, hookers, immigrants, and my city.

Enjoyed the book. Surprising ending. Good portrayal of life in England at the time for poor people, so rather sad too.

Review Carnival by Compton MacKenzie

Very well written book with wonderful rhythm, vocabulary and situational/environmental descriptions. It was interesting to read about the opportunities and place of women in society at that time; also about the actions women had to take to survive and meet societal expectations.

Another great story

After enjoying the first two Tara Shores Thrillers I knew this book was going to be good and boy was it. I was hooked from the first chapter, it has great characters, it's fun, interesting and makes you think. The ending was fantastic. The detail was just right. If you are looking for an intelligent, fun, well written thriller then this is the series for you. I really hope we see more from Tara.

Carin Gilfry did a wonderful job bringing Tara to life and creating the scene. I look forward to listening to more from her.

Diatribe Masquerading, Poorly, as a Novel

This is an awful book. It has no plot. it rambles on, and occasionally makes no sense at all.

The reader is pretty good, though.

The author is an ex-Sikh, who dislikes Sikhs and hates Hindus. So it doesn't even teach about the Indian people. I do not recommend this book to anyone.

This series continues to improve.

This book, the third, is a step up from The Staked Goat, the previous one.

Cuddy is asked by a friend to help clear a young man of murdering his girlfriend.

One thing I especially like about Healy's protagonist is that Cuddy comes across as tough without having constantly proving it through fights and shootouts.

My one regret is that I wasn't aware of this series thirty years ago when it first hit the market. But a good book is a good read, whether it's a week after it hits the shelves or thirty years later.

I just wish Healy would write more of them.

Satisfying pick up and put down reading. I love that it takes place in a time of no cell phones. I love the lead character. He isn't a macho super hero. He's smart, but makes normal human mistakes. I also like that the author shows the heart break of the character.

BEST $10 EVER SPENT!

Admittedly "hard to please" and openly financially "thrifty" (bordering cheap and/or stingy) I strictly adhere to ONLY reading books checked our from the library (ie FREE), that way when I get bored with a book (as I often do, lets face it our time is precious and if you don't have me hooked by the first chapter, I'm done) I can return it. No harm, no foul. However, this book came so highly recommended by people I trust, and it was only available in digital format so I decided to "splurge" on the download increasing my expectations that much further. I LOVED it by the second page. Hooked, couldn't put it down. The author sucked me in with her honesty, vulnerability, femininity, sexuality and quick-witted-humor that could only be produced only by a person with an IQ above 150. Rumor has it the hardcover version comes out in September and (gasp) I actually might splurge a second time...
