Delightful - Delightful - Delightful!

This little tale is, in a word, delightful! There is an sweet and very evocative charm in the narration (by a very talented 11-year old, no less.) This story is fun and instructive, and I, and my child, enjoyed it together. It will please your child, but also has enough to offer that any adult within earshot won't have to suffer the rigors and tortures of the "Barney" or "Pokeman" style. Highly recommended!

Sweet and well spun yarn

This was my first visit to Chichester and the animals who live there. It is a little community of animals with distinctive personalities. They pull together like the best communities do. I think the story would appeal to both boys and girls and especially any that enjoy animals. I love the illustrations and the style of story telling which is direct, not patronising and compelling.

What A Wonderful book!

What a wonderful book! This is so enjoyable to read and it is written from the perspective of the animals in the story. Children will love reading this story about a pair of hamsters solving a mystery with the aid of other animals!

A delightful children's tale

A great story for older kids about a crime from the viewpoint of our dear animal friends both wild and domestic.

Another engaging and entertaining book about the charming Creatures of Chichester.

The Creatures of Chichester are a clever bunch, who show that teamwork can allow even the tiniest among them to help out fellow creatures or "Twolegs" (their word for humans) who are in trouble.

In this second book by Joyce, we are introduced to two brave hamsters, who want to help their young owner by solving a string of petty acts of vandalism that have been happening at his mother and step-father's pub.

When a mysterious blaze then burns the pub down, the hamsters head toward the flames to find their owner.

The events that follow have all the creatures getting together to solve a very confusing mystery - some even come out of hibernation to help! Queen bee Carmella will have readers smiling at her "royal" behaviour, and by the way she manages to get the help of a whole "coronation" of queen bees - simply by the promise of leaving them all in peace to sleep again afterwards!

If you wondered what happened to the spider who masterminded the dog rescue in book 1, don't worry - he's a big celebrity among the other creatures now, and couldn't possibly pass at a chance to be in charge again!

One of my favourite characters from book 1 was the elderly mole, who mutters obscure statements, but always has a trick up his sleeve. He may need the help of a few younger moles, but, yet again, his assistance helps the creatures to save the day and to see that all guilty parties are captured and brought to justice.

As in the first book in the series, all the creatures are charming, and each one is unique in character. The plot is both engaging and entertaining, and will keep the pages turning for even the most reluctant of young readers.

I'm not going to give too many details, as I don't want to give away what happens. You'll have to read it yourself to find out more.

Lots of Creatures, No Slugs

This is a rather novel and mad story as two twin hamsters witness a burglary then set out to solve it along with some fellow creatures - no slugs.

Our families new favourite book!

What did you like most about Brikes Hill?

The book was inventive and the writer clearly has a good imagination. My kids actually want to get into bed just so they can listen to more! I also love the music and sound effects within the book, it is such a refreshing change from the usual annoying sounds featured within some kids TV and audio books these days!

What was one of the most memorable moments of Brikes Hill?

There are so many to choose from but I would say the moment the Brikes turn to life is one of my favourite sections.

Which character as performed by David Pollitt was your favourite?

My favourite character is Gramps and the kids love Skye and Otto!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

My kids definitely would have! They have not stopped talking about it!

An original and very entertaining story

I adore cats and love reading stories where they are tastefully written into the story line. I was drawn to author Emmanuel Sullivan's "The Catbyrd Seat" as it seemed to be incredibly original and places the feline in a position of pretty arrogant power and cats can certainly be viewed as stubbornly dictatorial. This was an absolutely delightful read for both me and my children. The plight of Cociel, Piggles, Mr. Byrd and the other creatures on the Reservation to outsmart the tyrannical Whiska was a fun, and sometimes tense, journey. This was a very well written story appropriate for young and old alike.

This is the Bestest, Coolest, Awesomest Book EVER (=^.^=)~

I am nine years old and I really think you should read this book just like I did. It was really interesting. My favourite characters were Cociel, Mr. Byrd and Piggles. I think that all the characters were REALLY REALLY realistic and probably what I could expect from real animals! And when the author described what the scene was or what something looked like I could imagine it in my head really easily. Some of my favourite animals were in this book which were cats, birds, mice and pigs and more!

In this book Cociel (a little mouse, who reminds me of my cute little brother!) realises that all the cats are being bullies and that they try to scare all the mice so that they do what the cats want. So he goes to Mr. Byrd, a very shy bird who was told that he couldnât do much, but Cociel still asks Mr. Byrd to try be elected to be Prime Minister.

But Whiska - the current Prime Minister - doesnât agree with Mr. Byrd trying. And he wants only himself to be on the ballot (which is kind of useless)! Strip, a prince cat, knows something about Mr. Byrd, and heâs arrested. But luckily, after a guiltless trial, he gets free. But I shouldnât share too much so that youâll find this book even more interesting. This book is my favourite book EVER and I canât wait to read more.

So many laughs in one book

My Review: Jesper Jinx is back with all of his antics (many of which go wrong). I have been following these books all along and really enjoy each book on its own and as part of the whole series. While this book can be read on its own, there are hints to events in previous books. I really love how Kitti brings the book into the story (yes you read that right, the books you are reading are also part of the story). This book is full of short and funny tales that happen to Jesper throughout the day, there is never a dull moment and even reluctant middle grade readers will be entertained.

My Rating: I have really enjoyed every one of the Jesper Jinx books and this is no different. I love seeing something that all middle grade readers can enjoy and I look forward to sharing these with Munchkin as soon as he is old enough. I give it a rating of Four Paws!

Another Humorous story in the series!

Jesper is back in yet another adventure and with loads of mischief up his sleeve. In this fourth installment of the book, we follow Jesper as he learns how to fish for the very first time and plays at being a detective (a.k.a Detective Jinx). Being afraid of worms, he has a difficult time baiting the hook. However, Jesper always manages to find ways to accomplish whatever he wants. I assume that those of us who are acquainted with him through the books are aware of the fact. In the midst of all this Jesper manages to lose all the fish that his best friendâs grandfather, his best friend Oliver and him have managed to catch and later all his clumsiness and mischief results in him helping to catch the thief.

In this book however, we see a twist in the plot line when Jesperâs dad goes to meet the scribbler with a copy of the book. The entire story, is written in the usual humorous style making us chuckle at Jeperâs antics and his innate ability to get into trouble. Jesperâs mischievous ways and his relationship with his older sister are given a little more importance in this story (though I guess his sister and him will always end up fighting!)

As is usual with all Jesperâs stories, Marko (a.k.a the scribbler as he is referred to in the stories) gives us a bit of insight into the thinking of one of the animals in the story. In this it happens to be the ferret, who is being taken care of by Jesperâs sister at the moment. From the ferretâs point of view, we gain an insight into his opinion about Jesperâs sister and his reason for trying to escape.

Overall this is yet another treat for all fans of Jesper and his crazy antics.

Ah, Jesper. How you make me laugh! Jesper is forever getting into a pickle (or should that be a pepper?!) Misunderstandings and mishaps are normal for him, and make an entertaining read. I loved learning what a Turkish pepper is, as well as the double meaning for fishing.
