A Fun Way to Learn About History

I think this is a great way to get kids to read about history without it being boring! I know if I were a kid I would be reading this series (or reading each book after my child reads it). What a great concept to get kids to learn about history by using time travel in a "time chair" and putting you right in the middle of what was happening in a certain time period. Plus, the main character, Laura, gets to dress the part and participate, what a fantastic idea for the storyline. The story is well thought out and written with historical accuracy, it's not written for just little children it's relatable to even older children and adults. I think this is going to be an interesting historical series for kids of all ages and a fun way to learn about history.

Fun trip through history from an entertaining character

Big Battles in Trenton: The Time Chair Diary (Book One) by Laura Crockett is a fantastic book that incorporates the time travel machine storyline, but also gives a nod to The Time Machine (H.G. Wells), which made me smile. To me, if you're inspired by a classic plot and pay respect to it, it makes reading it from a different angle enjoyable instead of cringe-worthy.

This is a sweet and wise book. One gem of wisdom that has stuck with me: "Just because something looks like you, doesn't mean they are like you," said a mouse to Hibbs. In some ways this story is aimed most of all at the adult reading it to a child.

I was thrilled to read the latest installment of Anne Ylvisaker's winning middle grade series about the Button family. Set during the Civil War, Curse of the Buttons rounds out our understanding of the Buttons while providing us with a moving historical novel. History and heart. A book for young and old alike. The beginning of a series although we found you didn't have to read one to enjoy the other. It also provides a tool in creating interest and a window into history and how life has changed. You won't want to read this one. I would recommend going ahead and getting the two following books.

Honest, humorous, and recommended!

This is an honest, humorous, and dramatic look at the beginning of the Civil War through young eyes. The protagonist shares the Button family trait for being in the right place at the wrong time and for having a good heart for a compass. The book is a testament to the power of voice, one that not only gives pleasure on every page but makes us feel the way that children feel. An achievement!

The Button saga continues.

This latest Button family book is OK but frankly I enjoyed the earlier ones more. That's not to say this isn't an entertaining read but hopefully the author will do more in the future with Ike and his friend, the preacher's daughter. She is really delightful. NOTE: the chapters are nice and short for young readers.

This was an enjoyable book to read, not a real complex plot, but the story was well written. It was a brief view of small town life during the Civil War.

Commendations to the Narrator

Where does Spellslinger rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?

Let's see. I have four books published in audio, so I can safely say this is among the top four audio books I've listened to so far.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Spellslinger?

The way the main character, Rune, manages to save himself using ingenuity and his his not-so-great magical abilities. To say more would be a spoiler.

Have you listened to any of Lisa Baarnss other performances before? How does this one compare?

I've listened to all the books Lisa Baarns's has narrated for my books. I think she's getting better the more she does. She's becoming comfortable with the magic world of Galdorheim, and that familiarity makes each book better than the last.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

This is a short story, so not quite enough for a film. However, the entire Witches of Galdorheim series would make an entertaining animated movie.

My Daughter Loved it!

I bought my daughter the first two books for Christmas this past year. She loved them, so I pre-ordered this one. She was so excited when it came! She sat down and had it finished within an hour and half. Now she keeps asking when the next one is coming! My daughter loves to read and this is one of her favorite series. We will definitely order the next when it comes out!
