    Publisher's Summary:
"Death by self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head" is the on-scene assessment, but the victim's relatives are adamant in their rejection of suicide as an explanation. Discovered in a closet, a full week after death, the body is barely recognisable. Extreme heat has accelerated decomposition, and Dr Temperance Brennan's forensic expertise is required. Advanced putrefaction has made it virtually impossible to determine the trajectory of the bullet. But just as Tempe is attempting to make sense of the fracture patterning, an unknown man slips her a photograph of a skeleton, telling her it holds the answer to the victim's death...Detective Andrew Ryan is also on the case and, as his relationship with Tempe heats up, together they follow the trail of clues all the way to Israel. In the Holy Land, with the help of Jacob Drum, a biblical archaeologist and old friend, Tempe becomes involved in an international mystery as old as Jesus, a mystery that could rewrite 2000 years of religious history. Could one of the tombs really be Christ's last resting place? And are the bones in the ancient ossuary the last remnants of James, the brother of Jesus, as its inscription claims? But the further Tempe probes into the identity of the ancient skeleton, the more she seems to be putting herself in danger.

Fab. Clever book with a great story line and I always learn so much as well as enjoy the story
    brilliant listening
I enjoy this series but to extend my enjoyment I wish they would bring back the unabridged versions!
Time was against this great story
Loved the story, great premise and really thought provoking. As usual the detail and obvious research done by Kathy Reichs made this yarn educational as well as interesting. Narrator was top notch. Only down side was that it was abridged. It seemed rushed and ended in a hurry, such a shame.

    Publisher's Summary:
The first thing the team looks for is anyone with a grudge against Luke's father, a man who'd put a lot of tough villains away in his time. A list quickly emerges, but Thorne discovers that ex-DCI Tony Mullen has omitted the name of the most obvious suspect; a man who'd once threatened him and his family, and who, after serving time for his original crime, is now the main suspect in a murder which has been unsolved for four years.
Is this a simple oversight, understandable considering the trauma of his son's disappearance? Or is it something more telling?
Aware that he does not have the luxury of time, Thorne searches desperately for connections and leads, but learns that secrets are as easily buried as bodies, and that assumptions are the enemy of truth.

    Really well done
Novel. Excellent. I bought this book on a Kindle daily deal for $2.00 for escapist reading, not knowing anything about previous Sigma Force novels. I thought it was an excellent book for the price, because it had much more plot depth (and twists) than the usual "super unbelievable ex-military team thrashes the bad drug guys" type of book I usually find in this genre.
In contrast to those other books, this novel had a refreshing blend of science, genetics, history (think Davinci Code), humanity, and not too much soppy (and unbelievable) romance.
I would recommend this book strongly to anyone for the price I paid, but now I see the price is back up to 6x what I paid for it. Not sure I'd recommend it (or buy others like it) at that price, but maybe the price works for others.
    Intense and frightening
Action movies have nothing on this novel. I kept holding my breath through non stop violence and intrigue. It's unnerving to think that one entity family could be pulling all the strings.
    Always a Great read!
I always look forward to the next installment of Sigma and Commander Gray. "Bloodline" does not disappoint! James Rollins has always written the stories you can't put down; this one kept me intrigued from Page 1.
Wow the best novel book of the year !!!!!!!!!!!
After reading both The Doomsday Key and The Devil Colony this summer I must say that this book is a spectacular ride from start to finish. The book starts off with the kidnapping of the presidents pregant daugther Amanda With only a few weeks before the arrival of her newborn, Amanda is feeling anything but bliss. After discovering her husband's infertility, Amanda undergoes the grueling process of in vitro fertilization. A couple miscarriages later, she finally carries a healthy child. Despite all of this, she and her husband are fleeing for their lives. A few weeks ago, she received anonymous notification, indicating that the life of her child was threatened. Now, off the coast of Africa, the couple is aboard a yacht, fleeing for the safety of their child. Under the cover of darkness, a group of Somali pirates hijacks the ship, killing the crew, her husband, and kidnapping the pregnant Amanda. This story alone would be enough to capture American headlines, but there is one more detail that makes this an even bigger story. Amanda is the daughter of the President of the United States!
Sigma, a secretive US military group, is tasked with finding the kidnapped Amanda.

    Another superb offering
Mark Billingham does it again with this, the second in the Tom Thorne series. The plot was engaging and drew me in just like his first novel, Sleephead. I enjoyed the introduction of the characters and the start of the book certainly had an impact. The plot twisted and turned without being obvious in doing so, a feat many other authours should aspire to.
The narration was smooth and crisp, perfect in pitch, tone and delivery pace. Robert Glenister delivers a good array of clear characters and makes it east to differentiate between them.
I am downloading the next novel and can hardly wait to see what befalls Thorne and Holland next.
    Great story
Like the previous book in the series it was a bit disjointed in places. I don't normally buy abridged books and this is why.
Story and performance wise this was great. Good story and believable characters.
    confusing
narration was poor, story line reasonable, very confusing not enough difference in speech inflection to say who was whom. Not his best work.
    Gripping
Excellent narration- but terrible mid chapter music!!
Great story- well written as usual by Mark Billingham.
    Would definitely recommend
    Cat Scratch Fever
Having enjoyed 'Sleepy Head' (the first title in Mark Billingham's Tom Thorne series) I got 'Scaredy Cat' straight away. Whereas the first novel becomes compelling after a while this book had me completely hooked from the start. Scaredy Cat delves far more into the psyche of the killer and Billingham ekes out the story for each major character until they collide in the horrifying ending. I'm off to get the third in the series now!

Modern Version of a Classic Mystery
Would you listen to All in One Piece again? Why?
Yes, I own many reads by Ms Fields. I don't really get into the authors, but the synopsis/ reviews I find that Anna reads. She read this story at a fast pace which was a bit reminiscent of the old Dashiell Hammett type stories. This one will not disappoint. Now if you are a hard core mystery listener, beware. This was pure entertainment, not the best literary mystery.
What was one of the most memorable moments of All in One Piece?
When, our heroine, finds Stephen! Whoa. There was humor with Stark and Biscuit, and a trail of characters which lead you on a merry chase.
What does Anna Fields bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
YOU buy these books/authors JUST because the late great Anna Fields reads them. If you are a romance reader, See Susan Elizabeth Phillips series.
    Any additional comments?
The price is not bad, and if you buy on the 50% sale, do as I do, and load up on Ms Fields reads.
    Paranormal mystery
Like the previous reviewer I love discovering new authors on Audible. This audiobook has a great combination of writing and narration that make it a wonderful, enjoyable listen. Reggie Cutter has psychic abilities and when she finds her upstairs tenant murdered she hopes the police will ask her to help with the case. Instead they seem to consider her a suspect so she winds up investigating on her own. A great amateur sleuth mystery with a litte psychic twist. Fun listen that really kept me riveted!
    A NEW AUTHOR TO ENJOY
I'm always happy to discover a new author that I haven't read yet. This was a very good listen. A good mystery, humorous at times, and a good story line. Anna Fields is also one of my favorite readers to listen to. I am now getting the first book in this series which I haven't yet read and I will be awaiting the next book in the series to come out.
    Horrible !!
NO I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS BOOK TO ANYONE !!
Advise you to save your money !
Wish I could get my money back .
    Tense and Exciting
Would you consider the audio edition of All in One Piece to be better than the print version?
I love audio books. I love listening to them at bedtime and not having to read. So, from that standpoint, I consider the audio better than the book.

I wish I'd known about these books twenty years ago.
I wish Iâd know about David Housewright when these books were first published twenty years ago. Not because they are âdatedâ now but because I wouldnât have missed out on them for so long. Better late than never.
Holland Taylor is more of an Everyman-type PI instead of the superhero one. Heâs one of the most realistic PIs Iâve ever encountered. Thatâs a refreshing change from the ultra-macho he-man detectives many authors create.
Thereâs only one more book in this series and I look forward to reading it. And the books in Housewrightâs other PI series.
    Fast Paced Action
This novel has some flaws and some characters are not well developed. However, it was hard to put down. It's an interesting whodunit with fast action over a period of a month or two, including an extended stay in the hospital. Holland Taylor is somewhat a loose cannon, tending to charge in where he should use caution. When you add his attitude, you can wonder how he stays alive and out of jail. In places, it is a manual on how to be a jerk.
An older friend of Holland's parents has been bilked by an investment advisor who was managing her money. Holland charges in against the advice of his girlfriend/attorney and stirs up a cesspool of wrongdoing. It is all about mistresses and money. When people are killed it appears that a third party is gunning for both sides. As the plot winds to a conclusion, Holland finds who his friends are.
The plot has details of computer crime and harassment. It demonstrates that businesses taking telephone orders should use caller i.d., and anyone taking over the counter orders should ask for photo identification. Based on language and violence, I would give it a PG-13 rating.
    Housewright is a Bookwright!
A new author (to me) with excellent characters, gripping plot and a few surprises. Enjoyed the search for the true criminals. Right under their noses? Looking forward to next in series:-)

    Far from Lifeless
One measure of really good whodunit is that you should "get it" a satisfying time before it is all spelt out for you. This one really worked for me. It is an engrossing book which got me intrigued from the very first. The main character is suitably flawed but sympathetic in the Bosch/Rebus tradition and the audio book has great atmosphere with music and sounds that add, for once, not distract. The feature I liked the best was the tough but compassionate treatment of the London homeless that is at the core of the book; it treads the tightrope between bleeding heart and bleeding heartless very successfully.
Essentially it's a great, if quite dark, mystery book with a strong plot and well developed characters who really make you care about what is going to happen to them. I don't often take abridgments but at 6 hours this leaves a very full meal of a book which is well worth the credit.

    Thorne on the streets
I've read a couple of Mark Billingham's earlier books and love the tortured character of Tom Thorne. This audio version of Thorne sounds just as I'd imagined him. In this book he is working undercover on the streets of London and the full grimy detail of what that involves is laid bare.
The story is gripping and draws you in as all good crime fiction should. I found the musical interludes a little distracting although they do provide a good breaking point as there are no chapter breaks.
I don't normally go for abridged books but this one works well. I look forward to the next book from Billingham.
as ever an excellent enthralling listen
deeply absorbrbong full of plot twist and deviate just asvyoh think you know who ??
    Brilliant as always but..
Great story, as always from Mark Billingham and perfectly interpreted and read by Robert Glenister. The only thing I found really off putting and distracting were the 2 pieces of short incidental music, one of which always made me think the theme tune to Crossroads was about to kick in

Beyond This Point Are Monsters is a model of taut, credible, completely contained plotting, and a book with full marks for entertainment. The scene is southern California where young Devon Osborne has petitioned the court to declare her husband, now unseen for a year, legally dead. The story, with highly effective recourse to flashback, occupies only the few days of the hearing. Is the evidence of his death - missing migrant workers, bloodied bunkhouse - adequate; why is his mother so certain hes alive; what did happen to Robert Osbourne?

    A Good Mystery
Would you consider the audio edition of Beyond This Point Are Monsters to be better than the print version?
I haven't read the print version, but the audio version held my interest on a long drive I was taking. The narrator did an excellent job portraying a wide variety of characters and flashbacks, and made the book easy to follow.
What did you like best about this story?
The author seemed to know the setting very well, post WW II California, so it was realistic. I also liked some of the twists at the end.
    Which scene was your favorite?
Chapter 15 when Devon begins to do her own sleuthing.
    Any additional comments?
Though the book isn't extremely fast paced with a lot of murders, it realistically builds to a nice conclusion with some clever twists.
