Salt water lifts blood. Only salt water.
Loch Lomond is a mile deep, but the woman's body surfaced anyway. Found bludgeoned and dumped in the water, she now haunts Iain Fraser, the man who put her there. She trusted him, and now that misplaced trust is gnawing through Iain's chest. He thinks it will kill him.
Nearby Helensburgh is an idyllic Victorian town. One-time home to a quarter of all the millionaires in Britain, it is quaint, sleepy and chocolate-box pretty. But the real town is shot through with deception, lies and vested interests. As tensions rise and the police seek a killer, the conflicts that lurk beneath Helensburgh's calm waters threaten to explode. All Iain Fraser has to do is keep on lying.

Not up to previous
I have read most of Denuce Mina's previous books, mostly set in Glasgow. Her protagonist, Alex Morrow is happier, with two children, and a cancer scare and death of her first child behind her. This was a little disjointed to me due to multiple viewpoints. Drugs, land speculation and the vote to separate from England are explored. Good read but not up to her previous efforts
Murder, Money and Mayhem
In most murder mysteries, the murderer is an unlikable so and so. However, in Denise Mina's books, she brings morality and responsibility to everyone.
We find ourselves in a small tourist town, Helensburgh, Scotland. DI Alex Morrow and her team are based in Glasgow, and are following a woman, Roxanna Fuentecilla, who appears to be involved in a money laundering escapade along with some very important people. When Fuentecilla goes missing, Morrow and her team are called in to find her. What they find is a complex intermingling of several crimes that end with murder.
DI Morrow, as we have come to know her is married with twins. Her husband is the homebody taking care of the twins and the hearth. Morrow also has a half brother who is a gangster and is now is prison. Morrow is the kind of detective who is above hoard and always tells the truth. She has an anger management problem, and is taking care not to let it get the best of her. In the midst of this mystery, she is made aware of tensions just below the surface related to the coming independence referendum. The town of Helensburge has an old history of two families named Fraser, once related, but now cut off. The town knows the history and how it relates to the families and it has consequences. At the same time the investigation of money laundering has become too much when the police department is in arguments over who gets credit and who gets the money if the laundering is solved. Many issues, murder, money, ethics, responsibility and morality.
Denise Mina has written a storyline very convoluted with several different angles. Complex and filled with real issues and brilliantly written. Somehow, I found the storyline did not fit well. The issues Alex Morrow has with her superiors, her brother's incarceration, and her homelife were glossed over with not enough time and attention paid. I missed that more personal side. The ending was too abrupt with issues left up in the air. However, I read the book with rapt attention.

Reader beware
Not as well written as her previous novels. The writing seemed shallow, even flippant at times. There is a paragraph that seems to use multiple metaphors with a similar theme. It was strange.
To say the least I was quite disappointed.
