Fooled me

I usually don't miss the villain but I did in this one until near the end. Good misdirection. Could have been shortened a bit and there was a gratuitous "wrapping up" at the end that seemed added on, but overall, I'd download another by this author.

I loved it!!!

This was a wonderful and gripping novel; I purchased this book not having read any of Meryl Sawyers books before and was very disappointed in not having any more books to listen to on audible. Finding a new author to enjoy, as many of you know is not something that the avid reader takes lightly. I really enjoyed how suspenseful, thrilling, passionate, and wonderfully romantic this was. The narrator did an excellent job bringing this story to life and I would love to hear more from her.

Not just a bodice ripper!!

This one actually has plot, suspense, intrigue, unexpected twists -- all the things a mystery/thriller should have. And it's also a bodice ripper :-) So, if you like romance and mystery, I definitely recommend it.

I'm impressed

I was very impressed with this book. The first of hers I have heard. She writes a great story, lots of great characters. I give it at least 4 stars for story line, and 2 stars for narration. The narrator didn't take a lot away from this book, but she didn't add anything either.

I just hope that more of her books are put on CD, or whatever.

It was a great listen

I sure liked this book. Loved the characters, the surprise and shock of the plot. It kept me wondering what would or could happen next. Teasing romance and suspense. This book was a great choice and worth the credit. Can't wait for the next by this author. Narration was great! A pleasant and enjoyabe escape.

Publisher's Summary:

Kat Parker thought she'd finally escaped being known as the housekeeper's daughter in the class-obsessed polo town of Wellington, Florida. With her first blockbuster screenplay, she'd become the Hollywood It girl - until with one flop, suddenly she wasn't. Heading home is her only option.

Kat knows she can write another hit...if only she can find the right story. What she finds instead is the drop-dead gorgeous celebrity athlete Sebastian Del Campo, who's just as well known for his tabloid exploits as he is for his prowess on the polo field.

For Sebastian everything in life has always come easily - wealth, sports, women. But the perennial party life is starting to feel a bit stale. Especially after meeting Kat. Her easy laughter and candid attitude make him aspire to something more meaningful for the first time in his life.

As Sebastian tells Kat stories of his grandmother, Victoria, a woman who could be dripping in diamonds one moment and tearing up the polo field the next, Kat's inspiration fires, and soon the pair are back in Hollywood, working on a film together that could make or break both of their careers. And though the chemistry between the two is building, the film's irresistible star has other ideas....

Title: Consequences (Of Defensive Adultery)

Author: M. Jane Colette

Narrator: Elisa Kae

Format: Unabridged

Length: 9 hrs and 9 mins

Language: English

Release date: 11-23-17

Publisher: Norwegian Blue Records

Genres: Romance, Contemporary

Publisher's Summary:

An affair. Heartbreak. Consequences. Absolution, redemption, and love... in the most unexpected places. Consequences (Of Defensive Adultery) is a steamy second chance romance unlike any you've ever experienced, featuring an alpha lover-confessor you haven't dared dream about.

Elizabeth did not plan to break up his marriage when she had an affair with her law school professor. But she did. 15 years later, she's still coming to terms with the consequences of her youthful infatuation: a stepdaughter who hates her, an ex-wife who will never forgive the betrayal, and a sister-in-law who's determined to make Elizabeth her confidante. Compelled to reveal the tragedy of her life to a nameless lover, Elizabeth finds herself forced to reconsider her definition of love, commitment, and responsibility - a process that finally releases her from the shackles of her past mistakes and shows her the way to her own happily ever after.

Members Reviews:

Moments of tragedy, comedy & touching scenes. And all the sex, which falls into those categories & several more explicit ones.

Elizabeth tells the story of her life to her lover in between (and during) their play. It's a surprising family drama with moments of tragedy, comedy and really touching scenes. And all the sex. Which falls into those categories and several more explicit ones. The play between Elizabeth and her lover shifts as she tells her story. Not everything she believes about herself at the start of the novel holds up. How that transformation happens as her lover pushes her is really unique. The relationship between Elizabeth and her step-daughter completely caught me off guard. I made the mistake of reading a later chapter on my phone while standing in line waiting to buy something and completely forgot what I was doing. Really beautiful moments. Pretty hard to summarize in a review though.

Deliciously Scandalous

I was sucked right into Elizabeth's life. This book is so delicious, I enjoyed every minute of it. It's sexy, it's poignant.

Smart, Heartbreaking, Feminist Romance

The story is told through Elizabethâs voice, cut through with conversations between Elizabeth and her current lover, who controls and tortures her (only as much as she agrees to and enjoys) as she recounts. The frame tale (the story of Elizabeth telling the story to her lover, his statements of interest and whim, and his tormenting of her) gives tension to the story Elizabeth is telling, positions it differently for the reader than one might be inclined to understand it otherwise. The lover becomes, through the telling, a needling voice, disbelieving the point of view or recasting the events through a different eye, calling into question the sole authority--or even primacy--of the narrator.

This novel is gentler, more emotionally complex, more subtle and less flatly pornographic than what passes for âeroticaâ in most fiction/film. It is more about who feels what because of whom than it is about who puts what where. (It is, perhaps, more in keeping with the root of that word, âeros,â which refers either to the god of love, according to the ancient Greeks (Eros, who is like the Roman god Cupid), or to, in Freudâs terms, the âlife instinct.â)

In fact, Iâd call this âfeminist eroticaâ, in that it does not rely on dehumanizing the participants for its effects.

My Review:

Confession time...I rarely just walk into a bookstore and buy books anymore without knowing the author or based upon a recommendation from someone else. This book was the exception to that. It caught my eye on the bookshelf and I bought it without knowing anything more than what it said on the back cover. It was a risk definitely worth taking because I've just discovered a new author and series to go on my must-buy list.

Harper is not a one-night stand kind of girl, but when super-sexy Galen saves her from being drugged she makes an exception to that rule and takes him back to her place. Neither one expects anything more so agree to be completely honest with one another, but with one rule...no names. This is for one night...which Galen is re-thinking until Harper receives a text from a man who sounds like her boyfriend...so he leaves abruptly without another word. But neither one of them expects the sex to be so incredibly good that it haunts them both with what could have been...until they meet again when Galen is put in charge of Harper's security when she witnesses a murder and is being targeted.

I'm a sucker for a good romantic suspense featuring a hot, alpha protector and Galen is a great example of why I love this style of book. Although he feels betrayed by what happened a year ago, he knows that if he confesses his night with Harper that he won't be able to protect her...something he can't accept and that made me fall in love with him. In his defense, when the whole situation occurs, he's completely jet-lagged since he just returned from a year-long assignment in France. But he's committed to not letting Harper know that he absolutely remembers that night.

Harper has no idea why Galen took off like he did. She thought the entire night was incredible and is incredibly hurt that he doesn't even remember her. Did she misread things so poorly? I felt for her. She's been thrown into this horrible situation and dealing with her conflicted feelings about Galen certainly doesn't help her any. The book worked for me just because Galen and Harper are thrown into very close quarters under very stressful circumstances. It requires them to spend time with one another and get to know each other without the sexual complication (at least at first...hehe).

"Karen Ziemba brings Jenny's character to life as she vacillates between guilt for her passion and acceptance of her love for Hal's brother." (AudioFile)

Members Reviews:

Pretty good for one of SB's earlier books

You can tell this is one of SB's earlier books, but it keeps you entertained. I enjoyed the book. This is an abridged version yet it is very well done. You don't miss too much. Jenny and Cage are very likeable characters and well developed. There is romance, mystery and a bit of drama in this story. It is a sweet story about a bad boy "Cage" who acted out his whole life trying to get his parents attention while they gave most of their attention to his brother the goody two shoe, Hal. Cage was always in love with Jenny but Hal was who she was engaged to until his death. That's when the story starts to unfold and twist and turns. It was good to see how both Cage and Jenny transform into the people they were meant to be. I found the story had some unbelievable parts yet you easily forgive them because they help develop the story. It you like a quick love story with some zest then you will find this and enjoyable listen/read. I read the book as well as listened to the audio version. I always choose the unabridged version over the abridged version, but this was a good abridged version and didn't not change the story. If you really like Jenny and Cage, you will see them again in SB's The Devil's Own.

One of my fav by Sandra Brown!!!

I've probably read this book over 10 times now but my first time listening it in audio version. A beautiful story of 2 persons who were just meant to be. I like the narration as well.

Who believes you can sleep with the wrong brother

What would have made Led Astray better?

This was painful to listen to. Maybe because the narrator made the 'heroine" as so completely clueless. It read like a bad soap opera.

Members Reviews:

Had me from the beginning.. Excellent read

This book not only gave me goosebumps.. BUT did it twice! I loved how the characters stories intertwined. We have two sets of friends and roommates who are going through this journey we call life. Matt and Gavin, and Ella with Sarah. Each of the characters have been searching for something that is missing in their lives. With a lot of almost run in encounters we find that sometimes things are meant to happen when they do for a reason. I thought it was great how this story played out and there were some interesting twists and turns mixed with some sad stuff and I could not wait to find out how this story played out. I really loved the way it did. Just when you think you know what is going to happen.. one simple detail changes it all... Wonderful read, and I hope to read more like this!!

3.5 stars and I've made a note to read the next in the series

If you like me hate the new trend towards serial books, don't worry because this one does end. There is to be a sequel and I'd like to read it but there is no cliffhanger here.

The book is told from two points of view. The h is a girl who caught a glimpse of 'The One' 10 years prior to this story and has saved herself for him ever since.

The other alternating POV is that of Matt and his relationships and what he is doing with his life.

The story does drag a little with the search and near misses that the H and h have.

The thing that saved this book from just being a 3 was the twist. I didn't see it coming and I was truly glad it did. I'm not often surprised by stories and this was very pleasant.

If you're a hopeless romantic like me, please give this book a try. ;)

I'm in love with the cover. :)

I believe love really finds you, not the other way around. I think that sometimes, some people looking for love doesn't end up really falling in love with the person but only on the idea of being in love. I'm also a big fan of "waiting for the right time", and I believe that when that time comes, you will know.
