Tom and Scott consider themselves essential workers who work at home Now that Twitter has announced that most of its employees can work from home forever, we feel like the first ones to pioneer a trend that will soon be The New Normal.

Tom and Scott spend more than a little bit of time pondering the all too frequent use of the term “a title bit”. Plus, why baseball played with no crowds isn’t so bad after all.

After two months of sheltering in place, people are seeking comfort with bird watching and playing chess. Tom and Scott are bird glancers, but Tom’s cat Oliver is super into staring at them because he views them as the enemy. And we pay tribute to Jerry Stiller, who brought us comfort every day, as did his wife Anne Meara, with their incredible talent on stage and screen, and their warmth and kindness in everyday life.

Scott loves getting mail. And even taking other people’s magazines and catalogs they don’t want. Tom is one of those people who lets the mail pile up because he has no interest in leafing through it. Yet both of us hope the Post Office will survive and prevail, despite Trump’s threats that could put it out of business.

Tom and Scott introduce a new segment called “Walkin’ It Back”, where we revisit a rare moment on the show where we misspoke, and walk it back in a way that hopefully makes us appear more virtuous and intelligent than if we had never misspoke in the first place.

Tom and Scott envy the countries that have handled the virus far better than we have.. which is every country, except Brazil and Belarus. And other countries like Denmark actually pity us so they might run those “Won’t You Help” commercials featuring struggling Americans.

If you discussed your supermarket purchases in The Old Normal, you would have been shunned for discussing such mundane matters. But now, being excited about procuring toilet paper and paper towels is actually very interesting and worth sharing.

Karl Lagerfeld once said, “Sweatpants are a sign of defeat.” Tom and Scott think they’re a sign of the times. And while Tom says pants with a belt and zipper make him feel “on top of the world”, Scott wears his Old Navy slim French terry sweatpants constantly when he’s at home. Which is constantly.

In normal times, we would be freaked out by the arrival of giant killer hornets in the US. But when they appear in the middle of a pandemic, they’re less frightening than they are a welcome distraction.

In another positive change in The New Normal, open plan office spaces will be a thing of the past. Who ever aspired to be in the corner cubicle anyway? As more people work from home, is home jury duty on the horizon?
