Ghislaine Maxwell’s legal team argued that Scotty David (Juror 50) should never have been seated, pointing to his failure to disclose his own history of sexual abuse on his juror questionnaire. They said his explanation—that he rushed through the form and didn’t expect to be chosen—was both implausible and contradictory. By withholding such information, they claimed, he deprived Maxwell of her constitutional right to an impartial jury. They also stressed that David later revealed his abuse history during deliberations, which they argued could have influenced other jurors’ perspectives and biased the outcome.
The defense further insisted that David’s public interviews after the trial delegitimized the verdict by highlighting the possibility he used personal trauma to sway jurors. They asserted that his inconsistent statements under oath raised serious questions about his credibility and whether the guilty verdict against Maxwell could stand. On those grounds, they requested either a new trial or at minimum a full evidentiary hearing to investigate the extent of potential bias introduced by David’s presence on the panel.
