Ben has been optioned to Iceland so Matthew recruits Garrett from the Thompson to Clark Podcast to pinch hit. Matthew gets old fashioned with his coffee while Garrett takes a Bulleit from a can. Then they talk Wade Jr vs Gonzalez vs Old Guys getting hurt, the difference between 107 wins and 92 wins, and where can we expect help - bullpen or bats? Also? Matthew totally got the intro right this time.
This week Ben has COVID, but the Giants beat the Dodgers on his birthday, so it all evens out. To commiserate Matthew is drinking a Bourbon Bramble while Ben drinks a local pre-made cocktail from a bottle. On the baseball side of the things the invalids discuss the Dodger series, sing the praises of the Austins, and look forward to a tough matchup with the Braves.
Can you feel the Aloha? The Giants seem to be doing the are-we-good shuffle these days and it shows no signs of abating. For their cocktails, Matthew is drinking Jager bombs while Ben didn't make his cocktail. On the baseball side of things, the two travelers discuss the demotion of Joey Bart, bad defense (yes again), and whether the Giants a playoff team. Then they finish with a Rare double rant at Gabe Kapler.
Beat LA
Ben makes an absolute fool of himself this episode, but only after Matthew stages a coup but then gets the date wrong. For their cocktails Ben is drinking anything orange while Matthew has discovered a new fruit called "cherries". On the baseball side of things they discuss the lineup card snafu, Willie Pederson, Roy Gonzalez, and the mediocre month of May. Also, Ben rants drunkenly about everything.
It was the end of the world until Joc saved us all. Crazy. Matthew celebrates our new hero by drinking a cocktail in his honor. Ben ignores Joc altogether because he's got some spice to grind.
For the baseball stuff they ponder is it luck or do the Giants just suck at defense; they also discuss the game of their lifetimes and how many home runs Joc Pederson has to hit before he gets the stank off of him.
On the mistakes side of things, Matthew confesses that he can't read and it's Bryce not Bruce (sorry Bryce!); Matthew also confuses the Mets with the Padres while Ben gets befuddled by big words.
It's our 50th episode! And, we're besties with Renel now! (That's what following on Twitter means, right?) The boys celebrated both by making two cocktails in her honor; Matthew made cocktail 99 by following directions to the letter, alas, Ben was Ben with cocktail 100.
On the baseball side of things, our squabblers discussed all the ways Ben was wrong last week, all the ways Gabe Kapler was wrong last week and everything right about breathing coaches.
Happy 50 episodes everyone! Thanks for listening.
It feels good to be winning again. Matthew is celebrating by visiting the mother ship and drinking a boozy classic; Ben is still in his closet drinking another classic from the wrong glass. On the baseball side of things our vagabonds discuss the resurgent run differential, bubble boy Mauricio Dubon, and phantom back tightness. They also get very angry about umpires being very very weird.
Also, how many outfielders does it take to catch a fly ball?
Ben hates losing to the Dodgers. He's also drinking to celebrate two holidays while Matthew is challenging his own preconceptions about Cilantro. On the baseball side of things they're both trying to convince each other that last week was an aberration. They also play a name game, Ben goes on a rant, and they discuss the lack of home runs around baseball. Then Matthew goes on a rant. Ben can barely make it through the episode. Yeah, that Dodger series sucked.
The Giants do not have the most wins in baseball, no matter what Ben says; the Mets have 14. But Ben is right in spirit. Speaking of spirits Ben is drinking something other than Gin while Matthew is gussying up an old favorite. On the baseball side, our counterfactual chuckleheads discuss the 8-3 road trip, bandwagoning pundits, injuries. They finish marveling over the Giants' nasty nasty bullpen.
Well, it's official: one day can ruin your whole week. Our sourpuss Matthew is drinking a sour cocktail that disparages the whole city of New York. Bitter Ben is getting bitter with a dark and brooding blend. On the baseball side of things the boys discuss run differential, terrible horrible no good very bad Tuesdays and the mystery of the offensive production. Also, Ben begins to make amends to Joc. Slowly.
