Giant Cocktails: A San Francisco Giants Baseball Podcast

Well, that was a crazy week. Who needs a drink? If you're looking for ideas, Matthew is drinking a lovely sour today, while Ben is getting sophisticated with a frothy classic. On the baseball side of things the boys try to makes sense of the madness, make fun of Padre whining, and ponder the idea of violating unwritten rules as a strategic maneuver. They also look ahead to the Giants 11 game, 4 city road trip with no off days.

Oh, and Bob misses Buster.

It opening day and our blowhards are celebrating the only way they know how. For their cocktails, both drunkards are celebrating with an old favorite. On the baseball side of things they're making predictions and there will be no regressions here. How many wins will Logan Webb record? Is Joey Bart going to be the NL Rookie of the Year? Are the Dodgers going to get revenge? These guys don't know, but they sure act like they do.

Happy opening day, folks.

It should be opening day already. Just sayin'. This week Matthew is drinking slowly while Ben talks a walk in the bramble. On the baseball side of things, the boys discuss the roster. Who's in? Who's out? Who's this year's surprise hero? Later, Matthew tricks Ben into making a questionable bet.

Also ... we're moving to Thursdays! Starting this Thursday. So extra work for me. Yay.

And we're back with another Spring Training episode: this time with one less crank as Matthew has promised to bring the optimism. Ben, not so much. Anyway, Ben is drinking bourbon and flowere while Matthew is lost in his cups and teaspoons and milliliters. On the baseball side the non-roster invitees (to this podcast) discuss unsung heroes, when is a fluke not a fluke, a the biggest question marks of the season.

Old cranks are gonna crank. The boys are drinking sour spicy cocktails about getting in the last word. The drinks suit the mood as they break down the free agent signings that weren't. They lament the missed opportunities of Castellanos, Story, and Suzuki. They half-heartedly celebrate the signing of Joc Perderson and others whose names I forget. Finally they ask the only question that really matters: how good is this team anyway? (Pretty good, it turns out.)

Yep, they're back, and so am I, the real hero of this podcast. OK, Bob is the real hero. I just write the notes. Anyway, they sound better than ever, or at least better than last episode. And while Matthew is drinking old sweetened agave, Ben is drinking old sweetened congnac. On the baseball side of things they discuss the CBA, Carlos Rodon (welcome, Carlos!) and getting reacquainted with the 40-man roster.

It's a new year and the boys are here to celebrate! From the bottom of their very deep cups judging by the echo. They are both drinking spiked tea to nurse their hangovers, just like the old men they are. After talking about themselves they eventually get to baseball and put words into other people's mouths by making up resolutions. They also ponder if it's ok if the Giants don't spend all their money, and if the rebuild is complete. (No, and sort of.)

They're back! Like your loud drunk uncles who won't shut up or leave. Ben's drinking old fashioned winter while Matthew has lost his noggin. On the baseball side of things they discuss Posey's retirement, the lack of major signings by the Giants, and the lockout. Remember folks, when millionaires are squabbling with billionaires over who gets your hard earned discretionary spending cash, nobody wins.

The 2021 Giants wll never age, nor fade, nor die, but the baseball season will. And our boys? Drinking the winter away! Ben is drinking smokey summer nostalgia while Matthew is howling at the harvest moon. On the baseball side of the things they look towards the 2022. Will the Giants bring back Brandon Belt? Will the rotation be another collection of undervalued injury plagued cast offs? Will Posey ride his horse into the sunset? The brother's don't know, but they have all kinds of feelings about all those things.

And thus ends season 1 of Giant Cocktails. The brothers, Bob and I will be slowing down our production but the brothers will be back! We'll have episodes if/when the Giants make a major move in the off season. We'll have a New Year's episode. And ... most importantly, we'll be announcing a new cocktail focused podcast.
