TIMES WILL be hard during the seven-year period called the Great Tribulation. You don't want to be here for it. This week, we discuss the two witnesses, the dragon and the rumble in the parking lot of heaven, and the beast that emerges from the sea in Revelation 13. The identity of the Beast has been the subject of speculation for two millennia, so we're not going to solve it here. The takeaway from the study of this book is that God has an endgame strategy and it will succeed. Please — be on the winning side. Here is the link to the video Derek mentioned, Dr. Michael Heiser explaining the astral prophecy of Revelation 12 that identifies the birth date of Jesus as September 11, 3 B.C. Mike's presentation is based on the work of E. L. Martin’s The Star that Astonished the World (which can be read for free). THERE IS a chapter in the Book of Isaiah that is so clearly about the suffering servant, the Messiah, that have tended to avoid it for centuries. This week, we discuss the prayer of Hezekiah for deliverance from the army of Assyria, God's miraculous reply, and the prophecy of Isaiah 53 so powerful that it has essentially been blackballed in modern Judaism. ISAIAH'S PROPHECY of Cyrus the Great, king of Persia, about 150 years before he conquered Babylon is one of the remarkable sections of the Bible that proves its authenticity. We discuss God's choice of a pagan king as his "anointed," the restoration of Israel, and prophecies of God's eventual dominion over all the nations. THE SCENE shifts from Isaiah's prophecies of imminent invasion by Assyria to looking ahead to the Medo-Persian conquest of Babylon. At the heart of it all is God's plan to restore the fortunes of His people, Israel. We discuss the courtroom setting of these chapters, the divine council implications, and how God uses prophecy to establish the truth of His word. GOD CAN deliver us in the face of overwhelming odds. We discuss two examples of this from the book of Isaiah this week—the miraculous healing of Hezekiah, marked by the backwards movement of the sundial's shadow, and the deliverance of Jerusalem from the unstoppable might of the Assyrian army. We didn't discuss this, but you might be interested in Chuck Missler's article "The Long Night of Sennacherib." Chuck speculates that a near pass-by of the planet Mars might have been responsible for the sun's regression. "FOR THEY sow the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind." This week, we read Hosea's prophecy against the northern kingdom of Israel, a final warning that was fulfilled when Assyria destroyed Samaria in 722 B.C. The takeaway from this week's study is that while God uses pagan nations as His instruments of correction, a day is coming when Israel will be restored to her God. HISTORY, PROPHECY, and a glimpse of a future war in heaven — what more could we pack into this week's Bible study? We discuss the historic context of this week's reading — Assyria's destruction of the northern kingdom of Israel, the imminent invasion of Judah, and Judah's bad decision to turn to Egypt for an alliance instead of trusting in God. Then we get into some fascinating references to the divine council, flying fiery serpents (seraphim), a possible mention of a demon or deity called Destruction, and finally we read that the land of Edom will be allotted to goat-demons and the she-demon Lilith in Isaiah 34. This week, to make up for missing several weeks in a row, we present the audio from two presentations Derek gave June 25th at Southside Apostolic Faith Church in Joplin, Missouri. THE LONG rebellion by the small-G gods is all about getting control of God's mount of assembly, the Temple Mount. GOD INSPIRED the prophets Isaiah, Jeremiah, and Ezekiel to use the image of Israel as an unfaithful wife. He called Hosea to take it a step farther, directing the prophet to actually marry an adulterous woman to serve as an image of Israel's unfaithfulness to God. We discuss the role of Gomer, the faithless wife, references to the divine council in Hosea, and we touch on the type of pagan worship described by the prophet and the pagan gods being followed by the Israelites of Hosea's day. —— Breaking news!
