In episode 332 of the Glass and Out Podcast we're joined by Head Coach of the St. Norbert College Green Knights, Tim Coghlin.
Over the past 32 seasons, Coghlin has turned the St. Norbert hockey program into one of the finest college hockey programs in the country. During that time, the Green Knights have appeared in 21 NCAA DIII tournaments, captured five national titles, and posted over 700 wins, making Coghlin the all-time wins leader at the DIII level.
In addition to leading a model program, former players can be found making an impact in their respective fields and communities. That includes reigning Jack Adams Award winner and head coach of the Washington Capitals, Spencer Carberry.
Listen as he shares why successful teams have noisy benches, why creating offence starts with defensive structure, and the responsiblity that college coaches have to their players' parents.

In episode 330 of the Glass and Out Podcast we revisit one of our favourite talks from last year's TCS Live conference. Cleveland Browns Assistant GM Catherine Hickman took to the stage to deliver a powerful keynote address: Leveraging Human Capital: The Formula to Winning in Sport.
Hickman is a Canadian woman who grew up speaking French. With this in mind, and considering there are only 32 franchises in the league and limited roles available, her rise through the football ranks to become the sport's highest ranking female executive has been remarkable, and well-earned.
She is originally from Montreal and practiced as a corporate tax attorney before pivoting into a career in football, her dream growing up. In 2015 she took on an internship with the CFL's Montreal Allouetes and the rest as they say is history. Prior to joining the Browns, Hickman spent 4 seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles, working under two time Super Bowl Champion and Executive of the Year, Howie Roseman.
You can watch the video of her presentation now on The Coaches Site. Not a member? Start your 30 day free trial today!
Listen as she shares the importance of standards over rules, the difference between culture fit vs add, and how to lead from the middle.

In episode 329 of the Glass and Out Podcast we welcome friend and Coaches Site collaborator, skating coach Victor Kraatz.
With the Olympics being top of mind, we reflect on Kraatz's experience on the world stage and discuss the evolution of skating as he is over a decade into his journey as a skating coach.
Kraatz and his partner Shae-Lynn Bourne dominated ice-dancing in Canada, winning 10 national titles during their 13 year skating partnership, participating in 3 Olympic games and in 2003 captured the ice-dance World Championship.
Today, he spends time on the ice with some of hockey's top talents and is in a constant state of finding new ways to elevate how his students perform on the ice.
We developed a skating course with Kraatz that provides you with all the fundamental skills, drills, progressions, and teaching points. It will ensure that you're equipped with the knowledge to develop your players to their full skating potential. Check it out here.
Listen as he shares Olympic memories, the evolution of hockey training and how to improve skating fundamentals.

In episode 328 of the Glass and Out Podcast we're celebrating the career of one hockey's greats by taking a look back at our interview with Barry Trotz from 2022.
Trotz just announced that he will be stepping down from his role as GM of the Nashville Predators and retiring from a remarkable career in hockey. The Stanley Cup champion currently sits in 5th place for most coaching wins in NHL history and will no doubt hear his name called for the Hall of Fame in the near future.
This is definitely one of our favourite Glass and Out interviews. He drops a ton of coaching knowledge that you're going to want to hear.
Listen as he shares how he evolved as coach over his career, the importance of making the game fun at every level, and why the coaching community needs to built on collaboration.

In episode 327 of the Glass and Out Podcast we welcome back Head Coach of the Wheeling Nailers, Ryan Papaioannou.
With The Coaches Site and Glass and Out, one of the cool aspects is we get to touch base with coaches during the various chapters of their journey as they climb their way up the coaching ladder.
We first connected with Papaioannou during his time with the AJHL's Brooks Bandits. Under his leadership the Bandits captured seven AJHL Championships, one BCHL Championship (the Bandits joined the BCHL in advance of last season), and four National Championships at the Jr A level in Canada.
At the beginning of this season Papaioannou was hired by the Pittsburgh Penguins organization to coach their ECHL affiliate in Wheeling. Currently, the Nailers are tied for 5th overall in the ECHL standings.
More than anything, Ryan's successful transition from tier 2 hockey to the professional ranks is a signal that leadership and the ability to develop a winning culture matters more than what level you've coached at.
Listen as he shares why being adaptable is crucial in the ECHL, the importance of deception in elite players, and why winning breeds development.

In episode 326 of the Glass and Out Podcast we sit down with the President, General Manager, and Head Coach of the WHL's Penticton Vees, Fred Harbinson.
Now in his 19th year with the team, Harbinson has the Vees on track for a historic season as the Western Hockey League's newest franchise in its first season after departing the BCHL. In late January of 2026, Penticton sat 2nd in the Western Conference, were riding an 11 game win streak, and recently cracked the CHL's top 10 ranking, landing at number 9. With 26 games left to play in the regular season, the Vees are only 10 wins away from breaking the win record for an expansion team, set by the Everett Silvertips in 2014.
With Penticton, Harbinson built one of the most storied franchises at the Jr A level in Canada, leading the Vees to multiple championships, including six Fred Page Cup titles, a Western Canada Cup, a Doyle Cup, and an RBC Cup National Championship. He has recorded over 700 career wins in the BCHL and has been honored multiple times with the Joe Tennant Memorial Trophy as BCHL Coach of the Year. He also holds the distinction of the most playoff series victories in league history.
Listen as he shares the championship mentality that has resulted in expansion success, putting an emphasis on the defensive side of the game, and why selling development is about providing your players with a layer of tools.
