While we are on our summer break here's a taster of the extra content that goes out on our Patreon. Ads is hearing the stories of how people have personally fought back against the never ending grind of capitalism to reconnect with nature.
For this months bonus content Adam speaks to his old friend Rob Carroll who he first met at their previous job, working for a bank. Rob shares his story about how he went from being a young senior manager, a role that filled him with anxiety and left him feeling disconnected, to the moment when he was given an opportunity to leave and go on a journey that has given him a deep love of nature and kept him in balance ever since.

We are merely weeks into the summer and the catastrophic affects of climate breakdown are awash across the news. Wildfires, flash floods, heat waves and biblical storms all demonstrating that we have no time to waste and only time to act to save the planet. In this context it seems local councils are not quite getting the picture yet when it comes to saving our green spaces to save the planet and more local campaigns are being setup to challenge power and save the environment.
This week on the show we are Joined by Jon Martin from the Save Hough End Fields campaign to discuss what the councils plans are for this large public green space and what they plan to do to protect it.

Labour's 2019 manifesto was one of the most radical platforms put forward by any major political party in modern european history. At the heart of the project was the Green Industrial Revolution. The plan to decarbonise the economy while providing jobs for millions of people across the country and supporting those transitioning from the fossil fuel sector. As we all know Labour didn't win in that election but the radicalism of that platform is what informs this podcast and if it wasn't for the large commitment to decarbonisation this podcast probably wouldn't exist.
This week on the show we are joined by one of the architects of that platform MP Rebecca Long Bailey. We discuss the foundations of Labour's Green Industrial Revolution, Why that name was chosen over Green New Deal, Long Baileys journey to eco socialism and where the Party is now on greening the economy.

This week on the show we are joined by 3 Labour councillors fresh off the back of their local election victories Ekua Bayunu, Emily Rowles and Linda Foley. We discuss their motivations of getting into local politics, what power they think local government can hold and how we can be radical enough to tackle the climate emergency at a local level.
Today GM Labour for a Green New Deal launches the 'GND Cllr Support Network'. After speaking with progressive Cllrs, GM LGND have created a network of experts that are ready and willing to give advice and support on environmental matters as and when it is needed. The fight against Climate Breakdown is one in which we must all support each other and the GND Cllr Support Network is GM LGND's contribution to that fight. Any Cllr in GM that wishes to access the network or would like to know more about what is being offered, email [email protected]

This week on the show we are joined by Dr Keston Perry. Keston is a lecturer in economics and political economy at University of West of England (UWE).
We discuss in practical terms what reparations would mean, the historical racism embedded into Franklin D. Roosevelt's New Deal and how a Green New Deal must be designed in that context, as well as the reverberations of the Haitian Revolution and how taking a paternalistic approach to defeating climate change won't bring justice to those most effected by it.

This show is ostensibly about environmental politics. The grinding friction between our natural world and the citizens who have been chosen to act on behalf of society. It is important to remember though, even with all the fantastic powers and creations of humanity, we are beholden to nature and to the physics that govern it. The planet doesn't care about what colour ribbon you're wearing, it cares about the PPM of CO2 in the air.
This week on the show we are joined By Professor Kevin Anderson, Chair of energy and climate change at the School of Mechanical, Aerospace and Civil Engineering (MACE) at the University of Manchester and a researcher for the Tyndall Center. We discuss the hard facts and modelling around climate change, what a 1.5 and 2 degree world looks like, the failures of the Paris agreement, who holds responsibility for decarbonising and the timeline of the last 50 years that brought us to this precipice.
Disclaimer: Andrew made a right meal out of some of the audio for this episode. He's been shot and replaced with a better Andrew with even more luxurious hair, our sincere apologies.

Far right politics invariably comes to the fore in conjunctures of deep crisis. Since the financial crisis of 2007-8, far right parties and fascistic groups have grown in strength in Europe and across the rest of the world. Parties ranging from Alternative for Germany (AfD) and Marine Le Pen's National Rally in France, and dictators like Jair Bolsonaro in Brazil demonize immigrants and minorities, pinning the blame of all the nation's ills on those deemed "outsiders". But what do these far right groups do and say on ecology? How do they interact with a global environmental calamity, and how do we fight back?
Acclaimed author Andreas Malm makes his triumphant return to the podcast this week to discuss his new book, White Skin, Black Fuel: On the dangers of Fossil Fascism, co-authored with the Zetkin Collective. We explore the connections between modern fascism and European interwar fascism, the tactics and strategies of these groups, what factors enable them, how we struggle with them and how we win.
