Its been a while since Izzy was on an episode of Miami Vice. But it was well worth the wait, Izzy came in and and really saved this episode. A hot button topic in the 80's was synthetic drugs and this episode has it coming out of its eyeballs. In a strange story, we follow a man named "Wango" who has a chemist that is making synthetic cocaine. Crockett has infiltrated the gang, but Tubbs is left to go play in his own yard after being outed as a cop by his old partner. Things get wacky and weird and eventually end in true Miami Vice fashion… A massive shootout that leaves all the criminals dead.

But we still have a ton of fun with this episode! Dominic wonders why Luna is still making drugs even though he's being ransomed. John wants to know why Clarence didn't make JUST ONE PHONE CALL to help his old partner. Meanwhile we learn in the music segment Melissa is related to… Gene Autry? Maybe things do get really weird.

Hi pals, coming up on this weeks episode of Go With The Heat Izzy helps bring down a synthetic cocaine ring and reunites Tubbs with his old partner in the episode Better Living Through Chemistry. On This Week In Vice we'll be covering when this episode of Miami Vice aired, from Nov. 10 to Nov. 16, 1986, when Miami Vice was King.

On Nov. 13, President Reagan appeared on national television to admit the US was involved in the sale of arms in the Iran-Contra Scandal. The idea was to sell arms to Iran via Israel in an attempt to free American hostages in Lebanon, even though Iran was under an arms embargo. The scandal dominated headlines throughout 1986 and even leading the President to later return to television on March 4, 1987 taking full responsibility.

Boston still holds the top of the Hot 100. Hanging out in the top 40 is a song I've skipped for many weeks. Spending 24 weeks in the Hot 100 and peaking at number 2 is Glass Tiger's hit Don't Forget Me (When I'm Gone). From the album The Thin Red Line the song performed well all around the world. Personally, this is the kind of generic pop-rock that appeared here and there throughout the 80's and probably only saw real success due to the success of MTV. I know that may not be a popular opinion about this song, but you can even see bored people in the music video.

Let's bring down this South American cocaine cowboy… Texas style! With two big guest stars and some Bon Jovi, this episode starts out great! Then, we meet Willie The Texas Ranger (AKA "Old Man"). The plot kinda meanders and eventually ends with a shootout at the cemetary over a python skinned briefcase and two kilos? I guess he really did want that briefcase back. Of course in true Miami Vice fashion, everyone dies and all those Miami prisons stay empty because no one ever makes it there.

John is ecstatic that we get great music and a musical guest star. Dominic has an awkward attraction to our drug lord. Melissa thinks two drinks is nowhere near enough.

Hi pals, coming up on this weeks episode of Miami Vice we go Texas-Style when a Texas Ranger seeks revenge in the episode El Viejo. On This Week in Vice we'll be covering the when this episode of Miami Vice aired, from Nov. 3 to Nov. 9, 1986, when Miami Vice was King.

On Nov. 6 President Reagan signs the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986. The landmark legislation enacted stricter laws for companies hiring undocumented workers. The bipartisan bill also granted amnesty to over 3 million immigrants in the US. The success of the bill is still debated and a topic of many current discussions for immigration reform.

Replacing Cyndi Lauper at the top of the Hot 100 is the power ballad Amanda from the band Boston. From their third album, its a rare example of a song that reached number one in the MTV generation without a music video. The song was record several years before the album was released and is the only song from the band to reach the top of the Hot 100.

Would you be shocked if I told you Crocodile Dundee is still dominating theaters? Of course not. I'd like to go back and cover a movie I missed and is one of the most important movies the 80's. On Aug. 8 The Transformers: The Movie landed and ruined childhoods for millions of kids. The movie had an all-star voice cast, a revamped theme song and performed well in theaters. My entire house, where names like Stan Bush and Peter Cullen are frequently discussed, absolutely adores the original Transformers TV show, which is why this movie is so sad. In a huge twist the movie kills one of the most loved characters in all of TV in Optimus Prime and replaces him with the chump Hotrod, AKA Rhodimus Prime. I still cry when we see the final spark of life leave Optimus Prime and remember how mad I was when I left the theater that day.

Its Halloween on Miami Vice and we get a creepy, eerie episode. We start of with the most normal of Miami crimes… A man breaking into homes, stealing pants and fondling their meats. And really, until we get to the end of the show that's pretty much all he's guilty of.

But Crockett (as Crockett does) takes it personal and becomes completely obsessed! Dominic is for sure he's seen this house before. Melissa defends Crockett faking police reports and John has one hell of a music segment.

Hi pals, coming up on this weeks episode of Go With The Heat Crockett becomes obsessed with a serial burglar in the Halloween episode Shadow in the Dark. On This Week in Vice we'll be covering the when this episode aired, from Oct. 27 – Nov. 2, 1986, when Miami Vice was King.

On Nov. 1 a fire at the Sandoz Agrochemical storehouse in Basel-Landschaft, Switzerland would release toxic chemicals into the Rhine draining into the North Sea, causing massive wildlife deaths downstream and turning the river red. Approximately 30 tons of pesticides would be discharged into the river. Salmon wouldn't return to the river until 1997 and the Rhine 2020 program aims to make the river clean enough to swim.

True Colors will hold the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 for one more week. Rising up the charts and peaking at number 4 is the pop-rock song Take Me Home Tonight by Eddie Money. From the album Can't Hold Back the song would bring a comeback for both Money and Ronnie Spector. The song would be nominated for a Grammy and is a quintessential 80's track.

You guessed it, Crocodile Dundee is still topping the box office. Also playing in theaters is the spy comedy Jumpin' Jack Flash starring Whoopi Goldberg. The film does have quite the cast, including Jim Belushi, Jon Lovitz, Phil Hartman, Annie Potts, and more. It was also the first movie directed by Penny Marshall. You may recognize Penny as one of the co-stars from the TV classic Laverne and Shirley, she has directed some classic movies including Big, Awakenings, and A League of Their Own. Unfortunately Jumpin' Jack Flash was not well received, panned by both critics and movie goers.

After last weeks debacle, we hold on tight and hope we don't go back-to-back. But, this episode of Miami Vice is fantastic. Unfortunately John missed the episode, so its just Dominic and Melissa. Have no fear! We still give a full breakdown of this amazing episode around gangs, street violence and the struggle to pull yourself out of a bad situation.

The story revolves around a young, promising athlete (Archie) who finds himself mixed up with a rough teenage street gang and the Miami Vice. Crockett immediately takes a shine to the football star… Which means this is going the exact way you think it will. We both wonder why the teen criminals are so brutal in Miami. Dominic wonders why Tubbs is so casual around someone with a grenade launcher. Melissa is still sad from this episode, even 20 years after seeing it originally.

Its a classic episode of Miami Vice.

Hi pals, coming up on this weeks episode of Go With The Heat a gang problem plagues the city and puts everyone on edge in the episode The Good Collar. On This Week in Vice we'll be covering the when this episode aired, from Oct. 20 to Oct. 26, 1986, when Miami Vice was King.

On Oct. 25 in one of the weirdest games in World Series history, the NY Mets would make an improbable comeback in extra innings to tie the series 3-3 with the Boston Red Sox. The game started with Michael Sergio, parachuting into Shea Stadium in New York wearing a sign inscribed "Lets Go Mets". He would be immediately arrested. In the 10th. inning Mookie Wilson hit a slow rolling grounder towards Bill Buckner at first base. Buckner would misplay the ball, allowing it to go between his legs and into left field. A runner would score from second and clinch the game for the Mets. This play was often referenced as a confirmation of the Curse of the Bambino on the Red Sox, who would also lose the World Series to the Mets in Game 7.

Replacing Janet Jackson at the top of the Hot 100 is True Colors by Cyndi Lauper. From the album True Colors the song was the first single released from the album and would be the last number one hit from the singer. It would spend 2 weeks at the top and was received well internationally. True Colors would be nominated for a Grammy for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance.

Crocodile Dundee is still, STILL at the top of the box office and will continue to hold it for 5 more weeks! It just means we get to dig deeper into 80's film history. Normally, I gush over the movies every week. But this week I'd like to highlight a stinker. Hitting theaters on Oct. 24 and starring C. Thomas Howell, Rae Dawn Chong, James Earl Jones, Leslie Nielsen and Julia Louis-Dreyfus is the movie Soul Man. The film centers around a white man who goes black-face and pretends to be black to get a black-only scholarship to Harvard. Panned by critics for both being racist and an all-around bad movie, its still a mystery that Soul Man was ever made. I've never seen this movie, but I'm still aghast at the premise and shocked anyone ever thought this movie was a good idea.

Okay, its been awhile since we've had a bad episode of Miami Vice. But whoo-boy this one is terrible.

We start off fairly Vice-y. Tubbs' has a new girlfriend and life is finally starting to look good for Rico. The Vice writers must really hate Tubbs though. His girlfriend doesn't even make it to the opening credits. Tubbs will just never be truly happy again. Maybe he should have gone back to New York…

Anyways, after some investigation and a brief scene of Izzy stripping (not gonna lie, probably the best part of the episode) Tubbs goes to jail. Well, to infiltrate the crooked guards and bring down the drug smuggling ring they've built. We get of the silly train early and ride it until the wheels fall off.

Melissa is really upset that Tubbs will never be happy again. Dominic wonders why they even had to chase Tubbs to put him in jail. John… John is very concerned with the fact that the Vice team busts into the jail (literally blowing up a wall), shoots several guards and arrests the others without ANY plans on how the prisoners would react or what to do with them after.

Hi pals, coming up on this weeks episode of Go With The Heat Tubbs goes to jail to avenge the death of his girlfriend in the episode Walk Alone. On This Week in Vice we'll be covering the when this episode aired, from Oct. 13 to the 19, 1986, when Miami Vice was King.

On Oct. 14 the Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to Elie Wiesel in Oslo, Norway. Wiesel's work includes 57 books, professor of humanities at Boston University, assist in creating the United States Holocaust Museum and more. Most people know Wiesel from his 1958 book Night, a desposition of his experience and surviving Auschwitz and Buchenwald Concentration Camps during WWII. This episode is recorded just after the one year anniversary of Elie Wiesel's death on July 2, 2016. At around 100 pages, you have no excuse to have never read this classic.

Janet Jackson's first number one hit tops the Billboard Hot 100. From the album Control, When I think of You the music video is choreographed by another 80's legend Paula Abdul who also appears in the video. The song will spend two weeks at the top and is the epitome of the mid-1980's.

Crocodile Dundee is still holding the top of the box office. But this week, this week is a classic. Directed by Martin Scorcese, on Oct. 17 The Color of Money lands in theaters. The film co-stars Tom Cruise, John Turturro and Helen Shaver. Most importantly the film stars Paul Newmann reprising his roll as "Fast Eddie" Felson and is a sequel to one of the all-time greatest movies The Hustler released in 1961. Lets get down to the facts. Newmann is amazing in this film and is finally awarded his first Academy Award as Best Actor for his portrayal as Fast Eddie. This is one of my all-time favorite movies, even though Tom Cruise's dumb face shows up in it occasionally. Paul Newmann is a god among men and the world hasn't been the same since he left.
