Hi pals, coming up on this weeks episode of Go With The Heat we've reached the end of Season Two of Miami Vice. This week's episode is the fantastic season finale Sons and Lovers. On This Week in Vice we'll be covering when this episode of Miami Vice aired, from May 5 to May 11, 1986, when Miami Vice was King.

The tide has rolled out and the news this week is not as sensational as the previous This Week In Vice. I'm going to skip ahead a few days since the Miami Vice season is over and mention a huge pop culture moment that still finds its way into modern culture. On May 16, Dallas airs its final episode of its 9th. season. In the final moments of the episode Pam finds Bobby Ewing in the shower and the audience is revealed that the events since his death have all been a dream. This moment is riffed so much its almost lost where it all started.

Replacing Prince and The Revolution and topping the charts of the Hot 100 is the pop rock song Addicted To Love by Robert Palmer. As the signature song by Palmer, the song may not be as memorable as its music video. The video included an abstract "band" played by models and is unforgettable. The concept would be used repeatedly by Palmer through the years including his other massive hit Simply Irresistible.

I skipped through some movies last week so I could get to this weeks film at the top of the Box Office. For one week Short Circuit would reach number one, but it holds a special place in my childhood memories. The scifi comedy starring Ally Sheedy and Steve Guttenberg centers on a military robot that comes to live after being struck by lightning. Short Circuit and similar movies (such as Explorers and The Last Starfighter) are from an era when scifi could be fun. Nowadays scifi is all end-of-the-world, sky portals and hoardes of faceless monsters.

In the penultimate episode of season 2 of Miami Vice, we started off not really liking Trust Fund Pirates. But, by the end of our run down we all changed our minds. The episode follows Jackson, the successor to one of our favorite guest stars Glenn Fry, who played Jimmy in Smugglers Blues. Jackson comes out of retirement to help Tubbs and Crockett close in on some yuppie pirates. With a major twist at the end, Trust Fund Pirates is a sleeper hit.

John is pumped for Lynyrd Skynyrd in the music segment. Dominic is rooting for Jum Jum and would love to get him a woman like Fluffy. Melissa never trusted that Lani and for good reason. All in all, you get a great show and a fantastic episode of Vice.

Hi pals, coming up on this weeks episode of Go With The Heat Tubbs and Crockett bring down a band of Yuppie Pirates wreaking havoc on the Florida coast in the episode Trust Fund Pirates. On This Week in Vice we'll be covering when this episode of Miami Vice aired, from April 6 to May 3, 1986, when Miami Vice was King.

In the month between Vice episodes there is an amazing amount of news. Some events include Hulk Hogan beating King Kong Bundy in Wrestlemania II, Clint Eastwood elected Mayor of Carmel, CA and Roger Clemens strikes out 20 Seattle Mariners.

There are two stories to emphasize: On April 21, the two hour live broadcast titled The Mystery of Al Capone's Vault hosted by Geraldo Rivera. The special focused on the opening of a secret vault at the Lexington Hotel, formally owned by Capone, which was hyped to possibly contain lost riches or even dead bodies. The show invited IRS agents and a medical examiner to be on set when the vault was opened. After all the build-up it ended up being a dud and completely empty. Unfortunately this was not the end of Geraldo Rivera's career but is one of the most memorable TV moments from the 80's.

The biggest news was on April 26 uncontrolled reactor conditions erupted at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant causing a massive release of radioactive material and is one of if not the worst nuclear disaster in history. 2 people died from the resulting explosion but the affect is inmeasurable as countless thousands of people in the Ukraine, USSR and Eastern Europe have felt the effects of the radioactive fallout.

Luckily in this time period there are two songs at the top of the Hot 100. One is a reason the 80's was a terrible time for music, but the other is an example of why music was great in the 80's. Rock Me Amadeus from the band Falco would hold the top spot for 3 weeks but isn't the song I want to talk about. The song was immensely popular, but in my opinion, was just another 80's pop song that only found success in the MTV generation.

The song I really want to highlight is Kiss from the amazing Prince and The Revolution. There are songs from the 80's like Rock Me Amadeus that are forgettable and we laugh when we remember them. Then there are some songs like Kiss that are timeless classics from one of the most iconic performers and musicians on the planet. We miss you Prince.

This weeks movies are quite the odd collection. First is the Tom Hanks and Shelley Long comedy The Money Pit. I don't have much to add other than Shelley Long should have stayed at Cheers and we'd all be a lot happier. Next is Ridley Scott film Legend) starring Tom Cruise. The dark fantasy film wasn't much of a commercial success but was nominated for several awards and has quite the cult following. The last film is Jo Jo Dancer, Your Life is Calling. The semi-autobiographical film about the life of Richard Pryor revolving around his struggles with womanizing and drug abuse.

Words we never thought we'd say at the beginning of an episode of Miami Vice: Sonny and Rico are tasked with protecting a Central American Poet. You heard that right. Its not just Crockett and Tubbs, but the entire Vice team is in charge of this womanizing, heavy-drinking, out-of-control poet before he is to testify in front of Congress, who suspiciously looks like the riverboat captain from the Uncle Ben's Rice commercials.

If you're a long time fan of Miami Vice or have grown into one as you've followed along with us, we all know one thing… This is what the Vice team is worst at. Busting down Cocaine Cowboys and shootouts is the teams strengths. Keeping tabs and protecting a witness, you might as well sign the death certificate. Dominic gets tired of the poet real fast. John gives us all the dirt on the Suicidal Tendencies in the music segment. Melissa just wants to know one thing. How did he give them the slip?

Will the Vice team actually protect someone? Will Trudy have to throw out more stacks of paperwork? Did they even ask Don Johnson to appear in this episode or was he just wandering by?

Hi pals, coming up on this weeks episode of Go With The Heat a Central American poet needs the protection from the Miami Vice before testifying in Congress in the episode Free Verse. On This Week in Vice we'll be covering when this episode of Miami Vice aired, from March 16 to April 5, 1986, when Miami Vice was King.

On March 31 the largest airline disaster in Mexican history occurred 15 minutes after take-off from the Benito Juarez International Airport from Mexico City en route to Los Angeles. An explosion later blamed on an incorrectly filled tire would cause the fuel lines to rupture eventually leading to the plane crashing into the Sierra Madre Occidental mountain range killing all 167 people on board.

Moving Starship out of the way is These Dreams from the rock group Heart). There is another song that reached number one during the 3 weeks between Vice episodes, but I'm saving that for next week. The power ballad These Dreams was a significant departure from the band who's previous hits include Crazy On You, Magic Man and Barracuda. From the self-titled album, the song and album would be massive hits. The album would spend 92 weeks in the Top 200 and produce 4 hits. I will never hide my love for Heart, even if its a soft power ballad from a true rock band.

In this time period two movies will reach the top spot. But, like in music, I'll be saving one for next time. This week we'll take a look at the Ron Howard film Gung Ho. The plot centers around Hunt Stevenson, played by Michael Keaton who is tasked with convincing a Japanese motor company to reopen a closed American factory in a small town in Pennsylvania. The film is full of stereotypes, predictable and actually pretty surprising it made it to the top spot. In the height of fear over factory jobs being offshored in the mid-80's the premise may have struck a cord with American viewers but is one of the most forgettable movies from the decade.

In an episode where no one can keep their accent straight, we have an episode of Miami Vice where… Frank Zappa as a pirate is the best actor? Its true! Or at least up for debate. We start this episode the same way the last one ended – with a famous sports star committing suicide in front of Crockett. We transition from a homemade gun in prison to huge yachts, fancy mansions and gigantic quantities of drugs.

This was a controversial episode for your Go With The Heat crew too. Dominic really loved this episode and gushes from beginning to end. Melissa hopes Samurai Castillo takes care of a certain Internal Affairs officer. John… John has many problems with the math. But in the end, we can all agree the ending leaves an enormous plot hole that none of us can ignore.

What will happen to Crockett? Will Internal Affairs press charges? Can the team finally treat Trudy like the police officer she is? Find out this time on Go With The Heat.

Hi pals, coming up on this weeks episode of Go With The Heat Crockett defends himself from a ruthless drug dealer and an Internal Affairs investigation in the episode Payback. On This Week in Vice we'll be covering when this episode of Miami Vice aired, from March 9 to March 15, 1986, when Miami Vice was King.

On March 13 Microsoft went public with its first IPO offering shortly after moving their headquarters to Redmond, Washington. Throughout the 80's and 90's Microsoft was a controversial company and under constant scrutiny from the FTC, which is vastly different than the company we know today. The initial IPO opened at $21 a share and didn't suffer its first quarterly loss until 2012. As a tech geek I'm not much of a fan of Microsoft's products, but I can't undervalue the contributions the company has made to the industry and the world.

Mr. Mister gives way to a Starship song I can at least tolerate, unlike We Built This City. From the album Knee Deep in the Hoopla (it hurts to even say it), the band would score a second number one with Sara. Sara would only reach the top spot in the US, because by 1986 we would buy anything. The song would hold the top spot for just one week. Unfortunately its not the last Starship song that will reach number one during the late 80's. I'm obviously not a fan, but I will bow to the bands enduring legacy.

For one more week Pretty in Pink is still at the top of the box office. We can spend one more week here on This Week In Vice gushing about the film. In the last moments of the film, Andie (Molly Ringwold) kisses Blane (Andrew McCarthy), in the parking lot outside the prom leaving a happy ending, much to the chagrin to the audience. The lovable Duckie, played by John Cryer, is left to watch the woman of his dreams with another man. I don't have any commentary, I just wanted to give you a few moments of nostalgia from one of the most emblematic movies of the decade.

The episode begins with the Vice team busting down a murderous drug dealer named Ortega. By the end a crooked Judge kills his gangster bookie and then commits suicide on his yacht…? In an episode of Miami Vice taht had numerous guest stars, we actually get a great story and a dark, twisted ending. First in an exclusive new segment, we breakdown all of the guest stars including the NBA Hall of Famer Bill Russell, Michael Richards and Harvey Fierstein. The episode centers around a judge with a gambling problem who is forced to ask his son to throw his college basketball game to settle his debts. Bill Russell actually turns in a good performance that makes John say it might be his favorite episode of the season.

Dominic isn’t much of a fan of the episode, but is shocked at the ending. John is wondering what did happen to Ortega and her husbands back. Melissa just wants to play tetris with the courtroom.

Hi pals, coming up on this weeks episode of Go With The Heat the one and only NBA great Bill Russell guest stars as a judge who gambles away his son's future in the episode The Fix. On This Week in Vice we'll be covering when this episode of Miami Vice aired, from Feb. 23 to March 8, 1986, when Miami Vice was King.

On Feb. 28 Major League Baseball commissioner Peter Ueberroth officially suspended 7 players in the aftermath of the Pittsburgh Drug Trials. Curtis Strong and the testimony of an eclectic cast, including the Pirates mascot, brought to light a cocaine and drug problem throughout the clubhouses in the league. All 7 players would never serve their suspension, instead complying with a short list of requests from the commissioner. The case reshaped the MLB and is seen as one of the biggest disasters to strike the sport.

During the two week stretch between episodes Whitney Houston's classic How Will I Know would be replaced with the rock song Kyrie from Mr. Mister. This is the second number one from the album Welcome to the Real World following the power ballad Broken Wings. This is some of my favorite music from the 80's and perfectly encapsulates the decade.

Its finally here. Kicking Down and Out in Beverly Hills to the curb is one of the films that has shaped an entire generation and is still gaining young fans. Of course I'm speaking of the John Hughes classic Pretty In Pink. Directed by Howard Deutch, it has an all-star cast including Molly Ringwald, Jon Cryer, Annie Pots, James Spader, Andrew McCarthy and Harry Dean Stanton. The film and soundtrack are still icons in pop culture and transcends generations even to teenagers today.

For the second week we have an international story on Miami Vice. We jump from Italy to France where a rogue French CIA agent has come to Miami to… steal morphine? When he goes on the run the only person who can catch him is… a wanted French terrorist who is now a police officer? In a classic Miami Vice move we start with the ultimate morphine heist witnessed by a high schooler who has to go into protective custody (spoiler, this one doesn't die!). By the end of the episode Tubbs is saved from the French police officer who shot the wanted rogue CIA operative by Crockett who climbs a rising drawbridge.

Wow, that is what really happened. The episode definitely delivers on the twist and leaves us conflicted if we can call it a good episode. The two biggest surprises in the show is the "ripped from the headlines" twist at the end and a sweaty Crockett sex scene. John is super disappointed there's only one song in the show. Meanwhile, Dominic and Melissa come up with names for some of Crockett's sex positions.
