Probably the most educational episode of Miami Vice ever. So many questions were answered, like "What is Jai-Alai?" and "Why do people play Jai-Alai?". Okay, I lied. The second question doesn't get answered. But we do learn all about the sport where you use a hand basket to hurl a small ball at a wall. Also, it can kill people. The tragic story of US Customs Agent Frank and his mega Jai-Alai star brother Tico (Come on Miami Vice writers, really? Tico and Rico?) find themselves blackmailed by the evil Mrs. Batista. Who else can make sure the crime ring gets busted while no one lives to tell the tale? Just call Sonny Crockett.

All in all this is a great episode of Vice. Melissa really, really, REALLY hates Mrs. Batista. John is totally overwhelmed by the music and Dominic… Dominic has a severe misunderstanding about the words to the song "Eminence Front".

Hi pals, coming up on this weeks episode of Go With The Heat the we learn all about the game of Jai-Alai and the crooked Customs Agent mixed up with Vice in the episode Killshot. On This Week in Vice we'll be covering the when this episode aired, from Oct. 5 to Oct. 12, 1986, when Miami Vice was King.

On Oct. 10 the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical Phantom of the Opera debuts in London. By a wide margin, Phantom of the Opera is the longest running show in Broadway history and was the most financially successful stage show until The Lion King replaced it in 2014. Based on the 1910 French novel of the same name, it is easily one the most recognizable stage performances and often spoofed in TV and movies from the 80's and today.

Huey Lewis and the News hold the top spot for one more week, but it doesn't matter. The song we all want to hear is quickly climbing the charts. From the one and only, the sexiest man on TV in the 1980's, Don Johnson's Heartbeat reaches the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100. From the certified gold album of the same name (which performed well and produced some hits), Heartbeat would eventually settle at number 5 on the charts. If you needed further proof Miami Vice and Don Johnson we're King of the 80's – Miami Vice is one of the top shows on television, the theme song reached number one on the charts, and the star of the show would release a gold record. Don, we love you.

Its going to be a struggle to find other movies to talk about for the next 8 weeks while Crocodile Dundee sits at the top of the box office. On Oct. 10 starring Kathleen Turner, Peggy Sue Got Married hits theaters. Directed by Francis Ford Coppola. The film centers around Turner, who in a live of turmoil finds herself transported back in time to her senior year in high school. The film was nominated for 3 Academy Awards including a Best Actress nod for Kathleen Turner.

Just when we thought there couldn't be any more references to Richard Nixon or Phil Collins, Stone's War comes storming through. Well, we don't get either of those people. We do get G. Gordon Liddy and Peter Gabriel. This is a follow-up story to Back In The World (Season 2 Episode 10). But no mortars firing at Crockett in his boat and no ugly man.

In reality, this is a much better episode than Back In The World. Dominic is just infatuated with the new Rico Tubbs. He just can't get enough of that suit-glasses combo. John does not appreciate that Maynard gets away and never, ever comes back. Melissa makes it clear – everyone wants more Sonny Crockett.

The hits keep coming on Miami Vice.

Hi pals, coming up on this weeks episode of Go With The Heat Ira Stone returns and needs Sonny's help to crack a conspiracy in the episode Stone's War. On This Week in Vice we'll be covering the when this episode aired, from Sept. 29 to Oct. 5, 1986, when Miami Vice was King.

On Sept. 29 at just 18 years old, gold-medal gymnast Mary Lou Retton announces her retirement from competition. After being the first woman gymnast to win the all-around gold medal at the 1984 Olympics, Retton set her sights on college. As one of the most famous athletes, Retton's gold medal performance is one of the most important culture moments in American sports.

Huey Lewis and the News holds the Hot 100 for one more week. Peaking at number three is the funk and R&B dance hit Word Up. From the Cameo album of the same name, Word Up is known for its classic sound and a music video including none other than Levar Burton. The song was a critical and commercial success and still one of my favorite songs that features a codpiece.

For the next 9 weeks, the box office would be dominated by this movie starring Paul Hogan and would be the second highest grossing film of 1986. Crocodile Dundee is of course the film and would put Australia front and center on the world stage. Surprisingly, Crocodile Dundee would perform well above expectations, even getting an Oscar nomination for best screenplay. Eventually, there would be two sequels but they would never live up to the original.

Lets begin the Dick Wolf era of Miami Vice! What a way to kickoff the season. Great music, good story and a huge guest star. The episode starts off innocent enough. A young Irishman is preaching peace and unity in the eyes of oppression. We quickly find out Gina is head over heals in love with him and that he plans to blow up a plane with a rocket launcher. Things escalate quickly.

In bigger news, Jenna is back! Or at least she's back for this episode. Jenna is sad this is the end of Crockett and Gina. Dominic has some conspiracy bacon about this episode. Melissa realizes why she loves this episode so much and John finally admits he's a Trudy man.

Its the best way to start season 3 of Miami Vice.

Hi pals, coming up on this weeks episode of Go With The Heat we dive into season 3 of Miami Vice and welcome a gigantic guest star in the episode When Irish Eyes Are Crying. On This Week in Vice we'll be covering the when this episode aired, from Sept. 22 to the 28, 1986, when Miami Vice was King.

On Sept. 26 two new Justices were officially sworn in to the Supreme Court. Justices William Rehnquist and Antonin Scalia would become some of the longest tenured Justices to serve and both were not without controversy. Rehnquist would serve as only the second Chief Justice in impeachment hearings in the case against President Bill Clinton. Justice Scalia essentially spent his entire career laden in controversy, often writing scathing opinions and using at times very strong language.

Huey Lewis and the News are back! Their first single titled Stuck With You from the album Fore! would score the top spot on the Hot 100 for three weeks. It was their second number one hit, following the 1985 classic Power of Love. It wouldn't be their only hit from the album, which included another pop hit Hip to be Square. The music video included television host and actress Keely Shaye Smith who, if you watched TV in 1980's, you would immediately recognize.

The unreal summer that was 1986 included some of my favorite movies of all time. I briefly covered many of them last week and this time I get a chance to stop and appreciate one of them. Back at the top of the box office, 16 weeks after reaching it the first time, is the Tony Scott classic Top Gun. Produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and Don Simpson, the film stars Tom Cruise, Kelly McGillis, Val Kilmer and Tom Skerritt. It also includes brief appearances of both Tim Robbins and Meg Ryan. I'm not a fan of Tom Cruise. But, Top Gun the movie is one great package. The ridiculous story, great filming of fighter jets over the California and Nevada desert, plus the amazing soundtrack including Kenny Loggins just make this movie fun in every aspect.

After taking a week off we’re back with our season 2 recap of the great Miami Vice. There are so many moments from this season and so many dead hookers. For the times Sonny wasn’t witnessing a suicide, there were many unforgettable times that we had so much fun with. In this episode we breakdown all our favorite guest stars, the best music and our favorite episodes. There is some crossover, but you’ll see we specifically left out one episode: Out Where the Buses Don’t Run. That episode is so amazing and unilaterally considered one of the best episodes of TV ever, we try to avoid it and pick out other great moments from the season.

Dominic surprises everyone with his favorite episode pick. John gets to talk some more Lynyrd Skynyrd and Melissa gets to gush about Bushido. We had so much fun with season 2 and we cannot wait to begin the greatest Vice season ever in season 3.

Hi pals, coming up on this weeks episode of Go With The Heat we close out season 2 of Miami Vice. This week's show covers all our favorite guest stars, music and episodes from the second season. On This Week in Vice we'll be covering the time in between season 2 and 3 of Miami Vice, from May 12 to Sept. 21, 1986, when Miami Vice was King.

In the 4 month span between seasons there's an enormous amount of news. so we'll quickly run through some of the highlights. On May 26, an estimated 6.5 million people participated in the charity event "Hands Across America". On June 12, the South African government extended the State of Emergency to the entire country and heavily censored the media in an attempt to extend the apartheid. On July 3 President Reagan presided over the the rededication of the Statue of Liberty on its 100th. birthday. And on Sept. 8, the first episode of The Oprah Winfrey Show airs who tried desperatley to book the one and only Don Johnson on its first episode.

In sports, the Montreal Canadiens defeated the Calgary Flames to win the Stanley Cup. In the NBA, the Boston Celtics defeated the Houston Rockets. George Brett gets his 2,000th. hit and Greg Norman wins the British Open.

There are many changes at the top of the Hot 100 in this time frame. Topping the list includes Greatest Love of All by Whitney Houston, On My Own by Patti LaBelle and Michael McDonald, Papa Don't Preach by Madonna, Sledgehammer by Peter Gabriel and Higher Love by Steve Winwood. Personally, I'm akin to the love ballad Glory of Love from Peter Cetera from the amazing movie Karate Kid Part II. According to Peter Cetera, the song was originally written for the end credits of Rocky IV and I just can't handle all the 80's in this sentence.

For as much news and music there was during this time period, the movie list is insane. On May 18, Top Gun would be king of the box office. It would be replaced by the Sylvester Stallone classic Cobra, then Karate Kid Part II only to give way to the scifi classic Aliens. Next comes the Cronenberg classic The Fly and then the unbelieveable film Stand By Me, which would be replaced by none other than… Top Gun 16 weeks after its initial release. This is easily the greatest summer of movies ever. I wish I had time to gush over every single one of these movies but in the essence of time all I'll say is

This is it. Its the last episode of season 2 and it goes out with a bang. This is a fantastic episode of Miami Vice. This episode has it all: The Calderone's are back, a great guest star and a heartbreaking Tubbs story. Angelina Calderone comes back to save Tubbs and to show him his son he's never met. This story is fantastic and extremely frustrating.

John is tired of talking about Roger Daltrey and Phil Collins so instead breaks down a special music guest. Dominic really feels for Pete. He was there first Crockett, let the man fill out his paperwork! Melissa has some really, really strong opinions about this and the future Calderone episode. Dominic and John just get out of the way and let Melissa show the depth of her Vice knowledge.

An amazing way to finish seaosn 2 of Miami Vice.
