Multiple times through ou the Bible the voice of God is decribed as the sound of many waters. This is a coumpound sound where a multitude of small dropplets produces a loud noise. God sometimes speaks with a confusing sound but we can isolate His message from the sound of many waters.

After Abraham finaly settled in the promised land and leaves Egypt behind he goes through numerous family struggles, battles and makes a bad decision of having a son with Hagar. God doesn't speak wiith him for 13 years but at Mamre the covenant is renewed and expanded. His name was changed from Abram to Abraham and he receives new identity. We also receive new identities in Christ!

After building the altar in Bethel Abram goes in the direction of the Negev. There he finds famine and fleds to egypt instead of returning. He found a lot of trouble with Pharaoh but ends up returning to Bethel where he rebuilds the altar and starts all over again.
