  • Episode 15 | Guest John LaRavia, BYO Pizza, Doubt, Deconstruction, and Parenting

(0:29) Introduce Our Guest - John LaRavia

    (5:53) Question of the Day:

If you could build your own pizza, what are you putting on it?

    (11:17) Hot Topic:

Is doubt a sign of weak faith and a need to deconstruct? Or what is the right response to doubt?

    (19:35) Discussion & Member Questions:

    1. (24:13) Is there anything as you were preparing the sermon that you wanted to be draw out a little more?
    2. (29:42) How should you handle talking to someone that you eventually want to date?
    3. (34:08) We hear people say "Give it to God" as an answer when things are not going well. Recently someone asked me what that means and I did not know a great way to explain it to them. How would you practically explain this phrase that we use all the time? Thanks
    4. (38:50) Is there a children’s catechism that you would recommend?
    5. (39:52) Can you speak to the concept of aging out of obeying? At what point do you see that shift happen?
    6. (44:15) In the sermon, you mentioned that “the way you can most honor your parents is by growing up and obeying God, even if they don’t want you to.” What if my parents and I disagree on what obeying God looks like?
    7. (47:50) “I love you. I’m proud of you. You’re good at something.” - Why do our kids need to know those things? And what would you say to an adult who was never told those things and maybe struggle with believing it.
    8. (32:54) How do conversations with our kids or parents sound different when you are depending on the gospel?

  • Episode 14 | Picky Eaters, Kids Being First, and Pointing Our Kids to Jesus

(0:32) - Steve is back! - Recap Trip

(11:50) - Question of the Day

Would you consider yourself to be a picky eater? What is the weirdest food you’ve ever eaten?

    (17:50) Hot Topic

Let’s talk about this highly controversial issue - should the kids be #1?

I’ve seen videos on social media go viral where a man is asked to rank mom, wife, and daughter in order of importance. There seems to be a lot of disagreement on the answer. What does Scripture say about this and how do we apply it in real life?

    (23:40) Discussion & Member Questions

    1. (23:56) CQ: How can I know when someone is right for me?
    2. (28:37) CQ: How do you navigate the idea that there isn’t just “The One” for you. There are multiple people that could compliment your life and lead you towards Christ. But also knowing that the Lord knows who you’re going to marry, there arguably is “The One”.

    (33:43) Sunday Recap

    1. (37:06) How can we point our kids to their need for Jesus rather than just correcting behavior? What does that conversation look like?
    2. (41:12) CQ: What does Deuteronomy 6 look like with parenting high school or college-age kids. I don’t have morning time, bedtime, or car rides with my kids anymore. If you have kids that you are launching out of the house or maybe you are newly an empty nester, how do these parents take this and not look back with shame off not doing something well enough.
    3. (46:34) What advice do you have for parents who struggle with their kid’s behavior being a reflection of them?
    4. (48:35) What can family Bible reading/worship time look like for those who didn’t grow up with that example in their homes?
    5. (53:55 ) May’s Gospel Conversation Focus is on Gospel Conversations in the Home - What are some tools or resources for encouraging those gospel conversations?

    (57:13) Conclusion/Celebration:

  • Episode 13 | First Jobs, Live Streaming Church, & Issues with Intimacy

    (0:45) Question of the Day

What was your first ever job?

What was your first big kid job out of college?

    (8:50) Hot Topic

We livestream our services and some sources report that 33% of people found their current church online, but there is also a percentage of people who have not returned to physical church since the lockdowns in 2020. According to Pew research center in 2025, 20% of churchgoers attend exclusively online while 26% engage in a hybrid model.

    Is online church real church?

Do we miss out on anything by staying home?

How should we as members of the church think about or use church livestreams in 2025?

    (19:19) Discussion & Member Questions

Let’s recap what we covered on Sunday just to remind everyone what it was about

    1. (20:45) This is such a big topic. Is there anything as you were preparing the sermon that you wanted to be able to spend more time on?
    2. (21:50) CQ: Why in our culture are we so concerned about sexual sin?
    3. (25:32) More than marriage, you both discussed how all of our human relationships are broken, but Jesus brings restoration. What about the people listening who are struggling with a broken connection that isn’t their marriage…can you speak to the hope of that restoration as well?
    4. (30:36) If you have spent 2 minutes being married, you’ve probably realized that you are two different people who were raised different ways…How does your upbringing or maybe even the generation you were born into affect your relationships or your marriage?
    5. (35:04) What if my spouse thinks we’re fine? How do I approach a conversation with them about our marriage without hurting them?
    6. (38:46) What are some practical tips you have for people who feel like they and their spouse are missing each other and they’re not really doing life together every day
    7. (41:34) Within marriage, people typically only think of intimacy as physical intimacy. You broadened it to intellectual, emotional, social, spiritual, and physical. Can we quickly go through each of the 5 types and talk about 2 things…
      1. What resources do you have for each of them?
      2. A starting point if this is an area their marriage is struggling.

    Video of Chappell Roan.

We all here have children…is that true?

What would you recommend for parents who might actually resonate with that and are in that season?

    "(13:20) Discussion & Member Questions"

Let’s recap what we covered on Sunday just to remind everyone what it was about

    1. 16:05 - This is such a big topic. Is there anything as you were preparing the sermon that you wanted to be able to go more into?
    2. 18:37 - If I’ve “missed” his desire and design in parenting and marriage, what hope is there for me?
    3. 22:43 - God’s heart for the home begins with a godly marriage. What would you say to someone listening who says…I don’t know if I have a godly marriage. I mean we’re both Christians…do we have a godly marriage?
    4. 24:43 - If we fully grasp the metaphor of God and His bride, and the amount of betrayal, rejection, neglect, abuse that we as the church have shown him, what do we do when those things are in our marriage? There's nothing that we could do that would make God leave us, does that mean that we stay no matter what?
    5. 30:07 - When you’re going through the mundane day to day, you don’t always see the cracks happening in your marriage or family. What are those symptoms?
    6. 33:44 - In what ways does keeping up with the Jones’s look different today compared to when the phrase was coined? I no longer try to keep up with my neighbor…but someone on Instagram?
    7. 41:15 - You both talked about families feeling spread thin…what are some boundaries we need to have or questions we need to ask ourselves to not fall into the craziness.
    8. 44:11 - What kind of marriage/family support do we offer at the Chapel?

  • Episode 10 | A Deserted Island, Trusting Pastors, & Finding Idols

Question of the Day - 2:23

CQ: 3 things beside the Bible you’re taking with you if you get stranded on a deserted island.

    Hot Topic - 8:12

As church members, we often look up to our pastors, but do we look up to them too much? A Gallup Survey in 2023 also reports that trust in pastors reached an all-time low of 34%. Lifeway Research also reports that 41% of Protestant churchgoers said they have been influenced by a pastor’s teachings to the point of trusting them more than others in their life - Lifeway Research also reports that 1 in 5 churchgoers have faced moments where the fallibility or the failure of a pastor actually impacted their faith journey.

What are the dangers of putting too much faith in a human leader? How should we as the church view our pastors and navigate the balance between respect and keeping our trust in God?

    Discussion & Member Questions - 19:48

    Sunday Recap

    1. 23:00 - In Acts 17:16, it says that Paul was distressed because he saw that the city was full of idols. At what point does something we really enjoy become an idol?
    2. 25:19 - What are some questions we can ask ourselves to identify those idols in our lives?
    3. 28:32 - Paul’s gospel conversations were rooted in relationship, not the desire to win an argument. How   do you have gospel conversations with someone who is just really argumentative?
    4. 32:23 - CQ: What would you say to someone who struggles with…If Jesus died for all our sins, why should I stop sinning then?
    5. 35:38 - CQ: How can I hear God’s voice?
    6. 40:32 - CQ: Could you explain in simple terms the difference between your spirit and your soul?

  • Episode 9 | April Fools, Altar Calls, & Removing Stumbling Blocks

Question of the Day - 0:28

April Fools Prank on Kevin and Steve

    Hot Topic - 6:16

CQ: Hi! My husband & I are Christians! We come from a Southern Baptist Church background & we’re wondering why there is not an alter call at the end of the Sunday morning services for those that are moved by the Holy Spirit during the service or have need of prayer at that moment? Just curious about this!

    Discussion & Member Questions - 12:30

    Sunday Recap

    1. CQ - 15:39: “We must be ready to live in purity and willing to sacrifice for the sake of gospel unity.” What are some examples of those sacrifices in the current context? What if one views it as a spiritual matter? Would that require to become a sacrifice? (Would it be wearing a polo shirt, or practicing holy yoga or turning a blind eye to lyrics that are practically untrue but sound good?)
    2. CQ - 22:58: How do we not setup any stumbling blocks for people to come to Christ, yet also unashamedly call people to repentance? For example, what if someone living in a sexually immoral relationship wants to come to Jesus. If they ask, “are you saying I can’t do this anymore if I become a Christian”, shouldn’t the answer be “Yes, you must repent”?
    3. CQ - 37:25: What to do with someone who has told you they are not interested and do not care about the gospel? I have been trying to share the gospel with my dad for nearly 17 years.
    4. CQ - 40:27: What are some things we can do to make it less difficult for visitors coming to Church?

    Conclusion/Celebration - 44:28

What is something we can celebrate?

  • Episode 8 | Appetizer Families, A Church Visiting Churches, & Sanctified Imagination

Question of the Day - 3:44

Did you grow up in an appetizer family or a non-appetizer family? And what are you today?

    Hot Topic - 6:27

“Nobody showed up to our church this weekend because we told them we told them go to another church to remind ourselves that the kingdom is bigger than any one local church!”

This brings up an interesting topic. The idea behind this activity is that the church is encouraged to remember that the Church is bigger that our local congregation. It is so easy in America at least to feel a sense of competition with other congregations. What is a biblical way to view other churches around us?

    Discussion & Member Questions - 13:27

    Recap - 13:47

    1. 16:02 - We haven’t talked a lot about persecution while having gospel conversations yet. First, Steve, do we experience persecution in America today?
    2. 20:24 - Eric, you mentioned that at the end of Acts 13, we see that they are stirring up persecution against Paul and Barnabus, but they moved on filled with joy and the Holy Spirit. Can we talk about that for a second? How do you develop that mindset and confidence to not get discouraged?
    3. 26:15 - CQ: Why is Paul mentioned but not Barnabus when it comes to the stoning?
    4. 27:58 - You both talked about the role of the speaker and brought out an important point about how the speaker has an important responsibility to consider how their message will be received. What is the role of a listener in those situations and how much should we put on ourselves to know what our audience is thinking?
    1. CQ: Shows like The Chosen and House of David often add things that are not in scripture.
      1. Is this a case of "sanctified imagination" or altering the word of the Lord?
      2. As followers of Jesus, should we point nonbelievers to shows like this if they are resistant to opening up the Bible as an introduction to Christ.

    Conclusion/Celebration - 46:43

  • Episode 7 | Coffee, Lent, & The Old and New Testament God

    Hot Topic - 5:35

CQ: What are your thoughts on Christians partaking in Lent?

    Discussion & Member Questions - 13:23

    Sunday Recap

    1. How is the God of the Old Testament and the New Testament the same God?  - 16:40
    2. CQ: What’s the best way to start a gospel conversation with a stranger? - 24:30
    3. CQ: What would you say to someone who is apprehensive of having gospel conversations at work because of a boundary to not get too close to the people they work with? - 31:51
    4. CQ: Specific Gospel Conversation Question - (Read on Phone) - 37:30

    Celebration - 47:24

  • Episode 6 | Last Meals, Parades, & The Whole World

Question of the Day - 2:00

What would be your last meal?

    Hot Topic - 5:28

CQ: Our community group had a lively discussion about whether or not it is inherently sinful for Christians to attend Mardi Gras parades in general, but also including Spanish town. How can one filter what parades might be sinful?

    Discussion & Member Questions - 16:06

    Recap

    1. Was there anything during the preparation of this sermon that you wanted to elaborate on or geek out about?
    2. The sermon this past Sunday was about the early church understanding for the first time that the gospel is for the whole world. Let’s talk about how spreading the gospel to the nation applies to us. Some church members might wonder why does that have anything to do with me?
    3. CQ: Is there something in today’s culture that represents or is close to the type of deeply ingrained ethnic divide they had back in Peter’s time?
    4. On Sunday, we talked about prayer walking. Could you elaborate on what that is and why we are doing it?
    5. CQ: Someone born with a physical handicap asked me why they were born that way. Is it more Biblically accurate to tell them that A. There is nothing wrong with them and they were made in the image of God, B. We live in a broken world because of sin, or C. Another better answer?
