Elizabeth Ellery is a photographer, website designer and fashion industry insider who’s launched two successful businesses and now uses her skills to help entrepreneurs build the perfect personal brand online.
Her big mistake she made starting/scaling her business: Allowing comparison to influence her branding
In this episode, we talk about the importance of forming your brand around you as an individual and avoiding the traps of comparison as you’re in the beginning stages of forming your business. When building a brand, it is important to look at who you are as a person and form a brand that reflects that, instead of a brand that reflects what is trendy on social media. We chat about being who you are and how your clients should feel that from your brand.

In this episode, we talk about how it’s so easy to overwork yourself as an entrepreneur, especially in the beginning. Like so many entrepreneurs, Maggie started her business working fifteen-hour days, thinking she needed to constantly overwork herself in order to get her business off the ground. When she finally took a step back and focused on intentionality instead of quantity, her entire business and life changed.

If we learned anything from 2020, it’s that absolutely ANYTHING can happen in our lives. And that saying has been around for forever, the anything can happen mantra, but in 2020, that saying got really real really quickly. We all went through things we never imagined we would in a million years, and a LOT of shitty things happened that forced us to flip our mindset in one way or another. I feel like my entire life got put into a blender and whipped around for nine months, just absolutely bizarre. But we learned some things, right? And I think the single most important thing we learned was that at any moment in time, an atomic bomb can hit your life, and everything will be different in a matter of seconds.
And in learning that, we became not only stronger, well-equipped humans, but we became humans that are done taking shit, done walking through the mundane, done settling.
2020 gave us the fire that we’ve been needing for quite some time, the fire that woke us up to our reality and forced us to DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. It made us realize just how short and unpredictable life really is, and I think that is the most incredible mindset, because that is a mindset that changes your life forever.
Surviving this last year has taught us that right now, this very second, this single moment in time is THE TIME. It’s the time to make shit happen, to do the things we’ve always wanted to do.
Want to start that business? Now is the time. Want to go back to school and switch careers? Now is the time. Want to launch that side-hustle, write that book, save that money, start that hobby? Now is the time. And the beauty of the world we’re living in is that every single resource that you could possibly need to make now count is right at your fingertips. I started my six-figure business in 30 days with nothing but a google search bar. And if I can do that… five years ago, before all of these courses and resources were available for entrepreneurs… you can do it NOW.
I’ve always underestimated the power of adversity. The reality of taking charge of your life after bad things happen. And after walking through 2020, that is now my new battle cry. I believe now, that is our only option. And there’s nothing like a new year to feel the release of the weight of one door closing and another opening. But the reality is, that door doesn’t open on its own. We have to open it for ourselves.
Right NOW is the time to take action. If you don’t like how this year has been, if you’re not happy with certain aspects of your life… CHANGE IT. Reinvent yourself into someone you’re PROUD to be, reinvent your life to one you can’t wait to wake up and LIVE. Because you, and only you have the power to do that, to make the changes necessary to live a life you love. And I watched in 2020 as people made excuses. Hell, I made them myself. Because it’s so EASY to blame our circumstances on things out of our control. But that’s why so many get stuck in a life they settle for, because the HARD part is taking responsibility for your own circumstances and then taking action to change them.
And we’ve proven in 2020 that we can do the hard things. So stop waiting. Stop making excuses as to why you can’t have the life you’ve always wanted. Because NOW is the time. Now is the time to wake up. Now is the time to take action. Now is the time to make the hard changes. Now is the time to recreate your life. Now is the time to change your mindset. Now is the time to do the damn thing.
Wishing you all the most life-changing, successful, happy year—filled with big wins, big bottles of champagne, and a massive new love for the beautiful life we live. Here’s to 2021. The best year yet. We’ll see you next week.

So 2020 was quite a year… In this solo show, I chat about the good, the bad, and the very ugly of 2020—what brought joy, tears, anxiety, fear, anger and so much more. I talk about my journey to keep my business afloat, my struggle with infertility, my mental health, immersing myself in the fight for racial and social justice, and everything in between. I also talk about the two things that need to be prioritized above everything else in the hard times, and why I am so glad that this beautiful disaster of a mess that was 2020 happened to all of us.

Lauren Najar is a business coach who helps online coaches and service providers start and scale their businesses through simple sales strategies. She has a heavy sales background working in the banking and financial services industry where she worked with small businesses and coached her employees on how to have effective sales conversations. And she now uses that knowledge to help people go from a 9-5 hustle to a successful service based business. She was diagnosed with cancer not once, but twice in her early twenties. By overcoming those challenges, she lives out her perspective that there is so much more to life than to be like everyone else; wake up, go to work, come home, eat dinner and go to bed.
Her big mistake she made starting/scaling her business: Not dropping her ego.
In this episode, we talk about the vitality of admitting you need help in your business. It is a great thing to have independence in your business, but when you’re overwhelming yourself from that mindset and refuse to drop your ego to admit you don’t know everything, it can take a very negative toll in hindering the growth of your business. You won’t ever know everything in your business, and seeking advice from someone on the outside—especially once you’ve seen success—is one of the best things you can do to grow your business and see more success.

In this episode, we talk about chasing the carrot in our business—the next client, sale, dollar, time slot—and how flipping that mindset changes the game. All too often, we are consumed with the next, instead of focusing on the now, especially as entrepreneurs. This causes more stress and anxiety in our business because when we reach certain goals, we are immediately onto the next, never fully enjoying the now because we are too focused on how we are going to do it again. But if we can flip that mindset and infuse joy and happiness and positive energy into the now, and truly focus on taking those baby steps to flip our thoughts and center our businesses around the now instead of the next, we will see so much more success, and that success will mean so much more.

Delanie is a Simplicity Coach to entrepreneurs, co-host of the top-charting podcast with millions of downloads called Self-Helpless, and lover of efficiency. Her passion for conscious consumption, running sh*t like a well-oiled machine, and her former life as a stand-up comedian, greatly influenced her coaching approach. She helps people start, scale, and simplify their businesses and passion projects with a focus on freeing up time, leveraging one's unique skill set and interests, and working with intention. She offers a no BS guidance to her clients and she’s not afraid to open up and share her personal experiences, failures, and strategies in order to fast-track their success. She first launched a business called Dicks by Delanie, where she turned people into penis cartoons that she put on coffee mugs. In less than a year, she was able to leave her corporate day job to run that business full-time, which led to artists and entrepreneurs asking for her help making their dream jobs a reality, and bringing their ideas to fruition.
Her big mistake she made starting/scaling her business: Over-complicating her offers
In this episode, we talk about how simplifying your business is the key to success. Delanie started her business with so many facets, thinking she needed to have something for everybody, and when she finally simplified her business, everything changed. We talk about the mindset shift around the complexity of your business and that you don’t need to be everything for everyone, you just need to be something for someone.

In this episode, we talk about the 10 mindset roadblocks that held me back in my business when I first started. Because the hardest part about starting and scaling a business is not the systems, business day-to-day work, it’s the mindset roadblocks that you never see coming. These 10 roadblocks that held me back are all topics that have not yet been normalized in the creative entrepreneur space, but once we normalize them and approach them with a learning mindset, our businesses and lives change completely for the better.

Celisia is Minneapolis-based wedding and portrait photographer, debate coach, and racial justice educator. She started Celisia Stanton Photography in 2016 because she loved capturing intimate moments that could be cherished for years to come. A former debater herself, Celisia also coaches high school debate and is the co-founder and co-director of the Minnesota Debate Institute, an affordable and accessible summer debate camp for high schoolers centered around a social justice educational philosophy. In the summer of 2020, she grew her Instagram account @celisiastanton into an education and dialogue space for folks committed to racial justice and the liberation of all people. Outside of traditional work, Celisia is a cupcake connoisseur, expert on binge-worthy reality tv, and the proud mother of three cats (Jean-Jacques, Piedmont, and Newton).
Her big mistake she made scaling her business: being afraid to show up 100% authentically as herself.
In this episode, we talk about the vitality of infusing your personality into your business, and how it is not only important to show up as your true self in every element in your business, but how it actually propels your business forward—attracting your dream clients by narrowing your niche. Once Celisia changed the way she showed up in her business and stopped feeling like she needed to have a separate business persona that was more palatable to a wider variety of people, it allowed her to be truly authentic and transparent about all aspects of who she is, which importantly includes her ideologies, values, and perspectives on the world. She saw a giant spike in her business when she finally stepped into her truth within her business, also attracting her ideal client just by doing so.
