GSfMO#374 Drive Like The Pros is a new book that introduces TaylorMade’s MAT-T System. MAT-T (pronounced “mat”) is a 3D motion capture system that analyzes your swing and provides detailed statistics about every nuance of your swing. Unlike 2D video instruction systems that have the ability to compare your swing to different Tour Pros, uses sensors to create a 3D personalized avatar that allows you to see your swing from every angle. TaylorMade analyzed the swing of 118 of their sponsored Tour Pros and averaged the numbers derived by MAT-T. Once compiled, the statistics were averaged to generate an avatar that has all the best elements of the top players. Then their engineers created an avatar based on the average swing statistics of 5000 amateurs. Author Michael Neff is a PGA Certified Instructor and is also TaylorMade’s primary contractor who installs MAT-T systems all over the world. Now that we know the history of how Mark got the Golf Channel to try Aimpoint for TV, it's time for us to learn how it can turn us into great flat stick players. According to Mark's curriculum, there are 3 simple factors that determine what a putt is going to do. With those 3 factors, you then refer to the chart provided in the lesson. Once you've been trained by an Aimpoint Certified Instructor, the process of lining each putt can take only 10-15 seconds. GSfMO#367 Mark Sweeney, creator of the Aimpoint Putting System shares his story of how a guy with a full time job outside of the golf industry came up with a physics formula that could predict the exact path of any putt. You've seen Aimpoint on several TV golf tournaments. It's the on screen graphic that shows the path of a putt before the golfer makes the stroke. It started out as an idea for software for your handheld device, but it was to advanced for the available hardware. He then spent years trying to get it passed by the USGA, or get a TV network to give it a try. "The thing that still amazes me is that it's incredibly accurate. Far more accurate then I ever anticipated." It's a fascinating story of persistence with a great ending. He's since developed a putting curriculum with Certified Instructors and PGA Touring Players around the world becoming hard core users.
