  • Promo: Launching our Summer Series with Bridi Rice
Welcome to Good Will Hunters’ Summer Series. This series is produced by Good Will Media. This series was born out of the realisation of one simple fact: for the first time in a generation - that’s over 20 years - the World Bank predicts a rise in extreme poverty. This is a confronting reality which is hard to imagine. What does it mean for those of us in the development sector, and the broader foreign policy community too?
Our guest host for this six-part series, Bridi Rice, will facilitate conversations with those inside the Canberra foreign policy community - authors, development leaders, the media and even our friends across the ditch to bring you simple insights on development, and the making and shaping of Australian and foreign policy.
Join Bridi this Summer for a great discussion that connects the Canberra bubble to the communities where we work and stay tuned to Good Will Hunters social media pages for launch dates.

In this episode I speak to two of Kylie’s friends and colleagues, Dara and Marika, about Kylie. • Allan Behm - How do aid, security and foreign policy relate?
Welcome to Episode 100 of Good Will Hunters brought to you by Good Will Media. This episode really crept up on us - it’s so exciting to reach 100 EPISODE, and if you’re listening to this, and you’re a regular listen, I’d really love you to reach out and introduce yourself if we haven’t already met! I feel as though I know so many of you personally already, but it really would be the most special 100th episode gift if you reached out and shared your thoughts on the show. My email is [email protected]
As we reach this milestone, I am of course thinking about what comes next for GWH. Do we keep doing what we’re doing, do we change the format - who knows! It’s all ahead of us. In the meantime, after a big budget week and lot’s of aid commentary, I’m really pleased to share this episode with Allan Behm with you.
Allan Behm is head of the international and security affairs program at the Australia Institute. In this episode, we discuss why aid is a human security issue, and the relationship between aid and foreign affairs. • Sam Chittick - What will Covid-19 mean for The Philippines?
Welcome to Episode 97 of Good Will Hunters, brought to you by Good Will Media. I’m your host Rachel Mason Nunn.
Today is the first in a two part series with country representatives from the Asia Foundation. In this interview, I speak to Sam Chittick, Country Representative for the Phillipines.
I really enjoyed this discussion for a few reasons. Firstly, Sam and I discuss the role of the private sector in achieving development in the Phillipines, and how dialogues are helping to bridge the gaps between government, private and NGOs. We then discuss the social impacts of Covid-19 in the Phillpines on households that were already experiencing poverty, including the loss of livelihoods and the decision of President Rodrigo Duterte to stop any children going back to school until a vaccine is available. On this note, we discuss the challenges of running an aid program under the Duterte Presidency.
Lastly we discuss the decision made by the Australian Government to scale back our aid investments in much of Asia, and Sam’s view on whether this is in the best interests of the Phillipines or not.
Now before I go, there are two upcoming events I want to tell you about.
The first is the Pawa Liklik NGO Forum which is in two days, on Wednesday 30 September! It is a free event for anyone working in or interested in the development sector, run by my wonderful friends at the Kokoda Track Foundation. It’s not too late to sign up, just visit the link in our show notes.
    https://www.pawaliklik.community
The second is the Oceania Connect Conference, hosted by ACFID, in partnership with the New Zealand Council for International Development and the Pacific Islands Associated of Non Gov Organisations, or PIANGO. The conference will be held virtually this year from 27 - 30 October. It is one of my favourites events for our sector each year, and I’m honoured to be hosting a very exciting panel this year which I’ll tell you more about in the coming weeks. Again, you can buy your ticket via the link in our show notes - this one is not to be missed!
