Isaiah 42-43

Isaiah 40-41 -   The focus this week will be fear.  We can trust God.  God has a plan even when life seems desperate.  This is the second part of Isaiah.  The tone of this part of Isaiah is much more Messianic in character.

Isaiah 36-39. This is a historical narrative in the midst of a book of prophecy.  This story is the intermediate fulfilling of the prophecy in the King Hezekiah.  We will look at the cycle of Hezekiah’s life.

In Isaiah 28-35 there is a great warning about the upcoming trials associated with the rule of Hezekiah.  The Assyrians are knocking on the door of Jerusalem but are ultimately repelled.  God promises there will be a day when all is set right.

This week I will cover Isaiah 21-27.  In these chapters Isaiah proclaims desolation on earth prior the remaking of something great.  There are references to the Noahtic covenant and echoes of the Book of Revelation.  The image of a restored Eden has always been on God’s mind.

They are not the same!

In this long passage, we begin to see the future hope of the promised Messiah. There is great comfort in realizing that God has a plan for hope well past our current situation.

This passage reminds us of two things.  God cares and provides deeply for us.  He expects us to respond to that care.  There is a truth of life that we miss because of the lies of the world.
