Ever feel like your attention is being diverted in directions other than where it really needs to be? Of course you have! We have all been distracted at some time. And, like us, the

readers of the book of Hebrews were distracted and tempted to follow other voices, authorities, or things vying for their attention. In fact, they were often tempted to return to

their rabbinical customs and Hebrew heroes for meaning and direction- only to find themselves adrift in a sea of doubt and unbelief. The author of Hebrews addresses these

issues powerfully by showing the readers how much “greater” or “better” or “superior” JESUS is to anything in the past present or future! After all… Jesus is creator and heir of all things! Today, we need that same encouragement… that Jesus is greater than any of the

“distractions” that life brings our way!

This week we will begin a 15-week series on the book of Hebrews, written initially to encourage second-generation Christians but equally important for us today. This week, consider taking time to briefly review the 13 chapters of Hebrews, preparing your head and heart for this powerful series on the SUPERIORITY of Christ and the new covenant and what this means for

the Christian life. Sunday we will introduce the series and spend time on Chapter 1 reflecting on the significance of Christ as superior to all of creation, even the angels.

“…looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” (Hebrews 12:2, NKJV)

Jesus was focused and fixed on His mission. This Palm Sunday as we celebrate His triumphal entry into Jerusalem centuries ago, how can His resolute focus change our lives?

“All the believers devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, and to fellowship, and tosharing in meals (including the Lord’s Supper), and to prayer.” Acts 2:42 READ: Acts 2:42-47, Acts 4:32-37, Eph 3:6 through Eph 4:7 God’s model for the Church is rooted in love and relationship not power. God’s view of His people (His Church) is more like a family than typical man made organizations and governments. If we love God, and we are following Jesus and we are depending upon the Holy Spirit, then we are truly brothers and sisters. We belong to God’s family and He wants us to live that way. It’s this Christ centered family model that transcends time and culture in a way that establishes God’s Kingdom and order on earth.

As children of Abraham and Sarah, we have inherited both the promise and the responsibility to

live our lives as a blessing to all of the people everywhere. To put it simply, we have been BLESSED TO BE A BLESSING. This is the foundation for God’s plan for the salvation of humankind, the basis for all outreach and missions efforts, the consistent theme that runs throughout the entire Bible.

We find the early church ministering to the Lord and to one another. What is “ministry” anyhow? Who gets to do it? Discover your ministry and get launched into a world-changing life!

“While they were ministering to the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said…” (Acts 13:2, NASU).
