The persecution that followed Stephen’s martyrdom was God's ordained means to scatter the church and advance the gospel beyond Jerusalem into Samaria. As believers boldly proclaimed Christ through the power of the Holy Spirit, many came to faith and an entire city was filled with joy.

God advances His mission through both faithful witness and suffering. Stephen’s bold testimony reveals God’s presence is no longer confined to a temple but is found in Jesus Christ and among His Spirit-filled people. Stephen’s martyrdom demonstrates that even persecution serves God’s sovereign purposes, so we can trust God’s initiative, rest in His presence, and courageously bear witness to Christ, knowing that for those who belong to Jesus, death is not the end but the doorway into His presence.

Job 28 reveals the path to peace when suffering. By fresh encounters with the whirlwind of God through corporate worship and personally pursuing Him through prayer and His Word, our fears of our troubles are replaced by a greater fear of our greater God.

The explosive growth of the early church brought both opportunity and spiritual danger. As complaints and division threatened the church from within, the apostles responded by staying devoted to prayer and the ministry of the Word, which shows that the gospel—not human organization alone—is what overcomes grumbling, pride, and disunity as the Holy Spirit fuels humility, unity, servant leadership, and faithful gospel witness in the church.

The Holy Spirit transformed the early church into a gritty people who refused to stop proclaiming Jesus despite persecution and suffering. Being convinced of their mission, confident in their message, and certain of their mindset, we see that true spiritual grit does not come from human determination but from the Spirit empowering believers to live as faithful witnesses of Jesus Christ.

The Holy Spirit empowered the early church to live with boldness, unity, and radical generosity rooted in the gospel. Spirit-filled believers view everything they have as God’s, leading to sacrificial care for others and a powerful witness to Christ.

The Holy Spirit’s permanent indwelling produces fuels the Church's bold witness, deep unity, and sacrificial love—especially as God’s people devote themselves to prayer. God's presence grounds the identity and mission of God's people as we seek to be a community marked by “great power and great grace” for the glory of Jesus.

The Holy Spirit ignites the boldness of the church through God’s unstoppable power, words, and sovereign plan. Because Jesus reigns and salvation is found in Him alone, the church prays for Spirit-fueled boldness to share the gospel to our neighbors and the nations.

The same Jesus whom God raised from the dead is still at work today, bringing life, joy, and peace into our broken world. Because Jesus is risen, the Church goes into the brokenness with the one thing we have to give: the good news of our risen and reigning Savior!
