Since the pandemic, there were many changes that people had to cope with—one being learning from home. It’s been a struggle for a lot of people, especially the students, teachers, and parents. Today, Karen Pulver and the goddesses are joined by Lisa Herold, a certified positive discipline trainer. She shares her thoughts about positive discipline and how it helps parents work with their children doing homeschooling. Lisa describes positive discipline as a method to help children and young adults learn life skills through relationships and mistakes. She points out the importance of allowing the kids to be in touch with their emotions and experience and move through these feelings. Lisa says it is also crucial to validate their feelings while also being aware of our own emotions in order to not reach the point of burnout.

It’s scary to own your power. When there is pressure or trauma, the squeaky voice can come on. Owning the core power that we all have and perhaps had to hide while growing up, will empower us. We are socialized to be pleasing and nice and this can cause us to not get the things we want. Listen to comedian, speaker, and vocal coach Elaine Williams as she teaches us how to tap into that lower register and take command of our why. We will also dive into Elaine’s struggles with addiction and her mission to change the conversation around this. There is something about our culture that leads to addictive personalities and we need to be taught emotional intelligence and understand how to detach and unplug in a healthy way. Elaine’s ultimate mission is to help people through the difficult times in their lives, whether it be an addiction, navigating college, or traumas, to speak and own their lives on their terms. Listen and learn how to tap into your deep goddess voice of truth!

We all know the phrase "we make plans and God laughs." How many times in our lives have we had a plan or a path that got blocked, changed, or had to be shifted? When this happens, we have a choice to make. We can continue struggling and trying to fix the problem endlessly, or surrender, give love and light to the situation, and create a new normal. Heidi Rome has experienced this in her life first hand. When her autistic son was eleven, he participated in guided communication therapy in which he described via typing his own experience of autism as a spiritual journey. "God is in my heart and will always protect me." This encounter soothed Heidi's oil and transformed her attitude out of a suffering state and a more peaceful purpose. The book's title is from the last line of that conversation and conveys a simple and not always easy golden rule for all parents who struggle in the face of their children's challenges, special needs or not. In this episode, along with Heidi, we meet Debby, the mom of a child with Angelman’s syndrome. Also nonverbal, we will hear about Debby's experience communicating with her son and his profound positive effect on others.

We are all but children trying to figure out how to be adults, but who is to say that by being an adult, we cannot “be young, have fun, and dance forever?” As adults, we can lose that zest for having fun and we become so critical of ourselves and our actions. We think that being mature means to act a certain way, when in reality it means being unafraid to be yourself and to feel like yourself. One way to release yourself from those self-imposed shackles is through dance. Dancing is in our blood, our soul, our body. It has been around forever and through every culture, tradition, and religion. It’s is not just about coming into a dance class with your tutu and leotards and being perfect, but by letting loose and being present and in the flow. Dance can release unwanted blocks in your body that may be holding you back. Join Karen Pulver and her featured Goddesses as they listen to the most amazing positive influencer around, Jessica Goldman. Her infectious spirit will inspire you to get up off that couch and move your body to joy and happiness. Get ready to set your soul on fire!!

When we are vulnerable, by being open and honest, we can encourage others to feel like they have permission to do that as well. And when we can share our stories, we can support each other through life's challenges. Support systems can come in many forms: a loved one, a stranger, a community…any place or person that hears you and helps you cope. In time, we can all build up our toolbox with the proper tools and experiences that can help to propel us forward. When I had my own cancer diagnosis ten years ago, it was a shocking experience that felt like it hit me suddenly. Once I started to go through my treatment, little did I know that my "Goddess Toolbox" was already full of rituals, experiences, and support that I had gathered over the years of participating in the many in-person Goddess events here in Chicago. I had learned yoga, meditation, breathwork, and how to add fun and folly into my life. When we are faced with tragedy or illness, we turn to our toolbox to help us through while also reaching out for support.
Jenna Benn Shersher is no different. When she had her cancer diagnosis nine years ago, she, too, reached into her toolbox and used what she had learned in her life to helping her through and along her journey. She realized that she needed support. Jenna then took this journey one step further by sharing her cancer story in a blog format, which, as it went along, turned into a fun initiative called Twist Out Cancer. She took a video of herself twisting and encouraged others to do the same. This initiative grew and developed into another that she founded called Brushes with Cancer. Join us to listen to Jenna's story of how support, encouragement, and tools can help you heal and grow.

Persistence and resilience are qualities we all have inside of us. It is challenging to bring these qualities out, especially when faced with illness and when having no support. Connection with others is vital to helping individuals deal and better cope with a diagnosis. As my 10-year "Cancerversary" approaches this April 1st, I wanted to air this episode with Guest Goddess Jonny Imerman from Imerman Angels. When I was diagnosed, I was scared, confused, and feeling alone. Even though I had my husband and family support me, I still felt isolated in my mind as they really didn't understand what I was going through mentally and physically. They were helpful and comforting but could not relate. What really saved me during this time was Imerman angels. I was connected to this organization by a friend. I was screened and paired up with several individuals who were just like me—similar cancer, age, children, lifestyle. I was able to really open up and ask all the questions I had to help me deal with this diagnosis, including how to talk to my children, how to prepare for treatment, how to lower stress in my life, as well as just to be a listening ear. My angels were on call 24/7 to help me whenever I needed that support- they were a phone call away. After I was cancer-free for two years, I was able to be an angel myself. I connected with several people and one in particular, who I continue to be friends with today. Join us in conversation with Jonny and Victoria (I'm an angel for) to learn about the importance of teamwork, connection, being vulnerable, and open so we can all help each other to cope. As Jonny says, "by connecting with people and sharing wisdom, we can help to pull them across the finish line so they can win their life back." Let's all help each other across that finish line to win the race!
