To be called out has taken on a negative meaning. It can be a challenge to fight, or it can be an embarrassing situation revealed publicly. Jesus often called people out, but not in an embarrassing way. When he spoke to the woman at the well, it was in a private setting. Jesus spoke to parts of her life about which she felt guilt or shame, but not in a negative way. He said these things to her to bring her to the revelation that she needed changes. God does not call us out to embarrass us but to pull us back from death and destruction.
Many said Jesus was too late too for Lazarus. But Lazarus did not need people writing him off; He needed Jesus to call him out from death. Jesus calls us out today. We hear preaching or testimony that seems to speak right to our soul. As He did to Lazarus and the woman at the well, Jesus calls us out to save us.
