    Another good read
My first grade granddaughter read this book with me last night. It was a tiny bit hard for her, maybe a level 1.5. However, she struggled through 75% before I offered to read the rest. I read 1 page, then she wanted to read the next. As soon as we alternated to the end, she asked to start again, exchanging pages this time.
We read Harry has a Horse in his Room this way twice last night too. Any books that are good enough to reread immediately, despite the struggle, are good books in my book.
If you have already done rhyming books and lots of white space books, Syd Hoff's books are a good next step. They are sweet and appealing.
    Five Stars

My granddaughter loved this book so much that it didn't stay at our house, but went home with her. a really fun book to read.
    Just OK
I guess I'm in the minority but this book just didn't strike me as all that special or unique. Yes, it is more interesting than Dick and Jane but that is not a very tough standard to measure against. My almost-[...] were not very interested in it.
Also, if you are teaching your child phonics, be aware that there are many sight words that you will have to help them with in this book.
    book
I brought this book along with the Dr. Seuss book Mr. Brice's mice made a complimentary story between the two I brought them for my nephew Bryce. I can't wait to read them to him. thanks

He likes his new room and his new street. The policeman and the mailman are very nice. But what Freddy really needs are friends - and he looks everywhere until he finds them!
    Members Reviews:
I normally like Syd Hoff's books, but this one is AWFUL. A terrible lesson.
This book is AWFUL. As the reviewer "JB" wrote above - this will NOT help a kid who moves to a new neighborhood or who is having trouble making friends. He goes to the park to try to make some friends. The kids all reject him, and do not want to be his friend. The poor kid is left playing ball by himself, throwing his ball up in the air and catching it repeatedly. Then the boys walk over to him and saying they want to be his friend because, "We need someone who can throw and catch like that." They only want to befriend him if they can use him. It's an absolutely horrible lesson. The kid would have been better off with no friends, than with friends who reject him, and then only want to use him for his catching and throwing skills. Unless you want to give a message to your kids that they only need to be kind, welcoming and friendly to a new kid in town IF he has something you need, stay away from this book. Teaches kids how to use people, or that people will use them.
I should add that I grew up on a few of Syd Hoff's books and really liked them - like "Danny & The Dinosaur" and a couple of others. So I was sure I would enjoy this one. But I hate it. I'm not even returning it or donating it to a library, but rather throwing it in the garbage. Any child in the USA is better off not having a book than having this book.
    Not a good book
This book was recommend off a moving website. I did really care for the message in the book I found it pretty repetitive.
    Four Stars
Great book for teaching children all about friendships
    Great little book
Great little book. Checked it out at the library for my students, but they loved it so much I had to purchase this copy. This is a great book for early readers and it encourages them to read more, because they can read it by themselves the very first attempt.
    Always will be my favorite.
This was the first book I learned to read when I was 3 and I was so happy to find it to start reading to my baby in the womb so he can learn it too when he is born. It came so fast I couldn't turn my head fast enough and it was here.

    Just Okay
I bought this book because the concept is so interesting. After reading it, I thought it was just okay. Specifically, I didn't like the ending. There was nothing entertaining or interesting in the resolution of the conflict. The kiddos (5 & 7) liked the book okay, but have not chosen it as a bedtime book since we first read it.
Reading is better when listening to it on Audible
The illustration is great and over all the story is good. Wish the ending was better. I wanted to use this book with children and adults. In all honesty, the book is much more interesting when reading it while listening to the audible version. It somehow gives the book more depth and interest.
Who knew keeping grudges was so much fun?
This is a great book for kids of all ages, regardless of their reading level, because the lesson taught is one that is beneficial to all.
This is both creative and well written and I highly recommend it.
    Great book and message
Great book and message! I am using it as a prop in my Women's Retreat Program I am writing about Forgiveness! Thanks!
