I really liked Everless, and I loved the concept

All in all, I really liked Everless, and I loved the concept! I've heard it compared to the movie In Time, which I've never seen, so it was a really unique plot to me, which I loved. I was hooked right away, and I found the book really easy to read. The pacing was great, and I never found myself getting bored.

I also loved the characters and the character development - I had some theories pretty early in the book, and I was right about some of them, but there were also some twists in the book which I didn't see coming but totally loved!

The one qualm I had with the book was that SO many of the issues could have been resolved with communication! For example, the main character Jules has always heard about her dad talk about how she needs to avoid Everless, and then specifically tells her never to let the queen see her or touch her, but never tells her WHY, so naturally being a teenage girl, she takes it upon herself to find out. If he'd just told her from the beginning, many of the plot points would have been non-issues. I know the lack of communication was needed in order to drive the plot in a specific way, but I felt it could have been done differently, and I would have liked it better - lack of communication that causes issues are always a pet peeve for me in books!

All in all, I loved the book and rated it 4.5 stars! I can't wait for the sequel!

Gorgeously Gothic Read

A very interesting premise makes this a compelling read for the YA market. It's gothic, daring, and completely absorbing, part action adventure, part coming of age, part mystery; the story demands to be read.

Who is who and what is what is never what you expect.

A promising start that will continue with another story.

Highly recommended.

What if time really was money?

I had first heard about this book from a friend. I will read just about anything but have long time been a fan of fantasy novels like this, especially featuring heroines. I finished the book in a day and thought it was an easy great read! As this is part of a series I am looking forward to the next one. The storyline was easy to follow and very different than any out there, I like the idea of using "time" as a money source.

However there were a lot of unanswered questions, and not ones that I feel will be covered in upcoming books. More like plot points that just didn't make sense and were almost forgotten about. I won't post here for spoilers but if you read it you'll understand.

Love, love

Velocity is book two in the Gravity series and is not a standalone. You should read Gravity first. Bron and Nick's journey continues in Velocity. Bron is about to find out who to trust and not to trust. The lives of the Stars and Humans still rest on Bron's shoulders.

Love, love, loved it!!!! So many emotions I felt throughout the book. Book 3 can't come fast enough.

I liked Gravity a lot, but I REALLY loved Velocity. It was just so intense and exciting that I couldn't read it fast enough.

I felt for Bronte with her confusion with everything that was going on and who and what to trust.

I loved the characters, the story and I thought the writing was amazing. Anna Bloom has done an incredible job with this book and I can't wait for the next book in the series.

Not only is he the best kaavl player in the land

"Kaavl Conspiracy," book one of an engrossing new series by Jennette Green, kicks off with a bonafide mystery that will leave readers jumping from one breathless conclusion to the next. The heroine is a spunky, gutsy female who refuses to allow herself to be railroaded by a treacherous family member or to be framed by an unknown spy-cum-murderer. Methusal Maahr is also somewhat of a trailblazer, competing in a competitive, athletic game that is almost entirely dominated by men. Methusal, of the fictitious continent of Koblan, is as well a true, truth-seeker at heart. The book includes a mysterious, captivating anti-hero as well as the boy-next-door. This first book sets the stage for all subsequent volumes in this series which includes inspiring, inspirational undertones. For the Christian-fiction adherent, this book is a fast, fantasy-laden, clean read.

Love this author's Sci fi/Fantasy works! She has such a knack for creating a whole new world and then putting me right into it! Love the story of Methusal and how it seems to be "her against the world," especially when she can see the reality that others can't. She's an unlikely heroine, one who's not quite ready to be in the role, which only adds to the tension of the story. A great read!

For those who love fantasy, this is a great new addition to the genre. The world created by the author is compelling, and I did not have to skip any pages of boring description (which I sometimes find myself doing with some other fantasy novels). The author keeps the action moving and I am looking forward to the next books in the series. I actually started reading this to my dad while he was in the hospital because we both love fantasy books, and he really enjoyed it too. A bonus: there were no awkwardly inappropriate scenes that I had to gloss over. Just a really good story.

Great story

I'm looking forward reading the next book in the series. I read this book in two days. It was hard to put down. The reason I gave it four stars, is that a perspective kept changing from one character to the next so much. I listened to this book, so, often, when the perspective changed, I missed the change. Half of the time, I didn't know who was speaking.

To the author: I recommend putting symbols before and after the name of the person speaking in each chapter. That way, when listening to the book, the name stands out.

I recommend this book for anyone. It's clean and very interesting.

Interesting

Although the storyline was very interesting I became confused several times in regards to Shifters nd their counterparts. I look forward to reading the next book in the series. I am a 68 year old grandmother with a penchant for the unusual in my desire to read. Personally I feel this is probably written for the young adults out there.

Both pros and cons here

I'm going to skip my typical synopsis style review, and just get into the rating. Let me start by saying that the authors are new, this happens to be their first published book. There are very few authors that get it completely right in their very first book. If you were to look back at some of your favorite author's first book, you might be surprised that they wrote it. This book contains several of the issues you find in first time writers with pacing, world building, etc, so I'll stay away from any of that, since all that usually works itself out as an author gets more experienced.

With that said, there were things I really liked in this story. The storyline was one of them. While not entirely unique, it was completely refreshing. It put a bit of a different spin on things overall, and the prologue sets things up amazingly. There may not have been too many twists and turns, but the plot was clear, concise, well set up from beginning to end, and easy to follow.

The writing. Some of the writing was outstanding. The prologue was engaging, well written, and pulled me in completely. Towards the climatic ending I was engrossed, waiting to see what would happen. In one part of the ending I could totally envision the action of the scene unfolding as if happening in front of me. Again towards the end, the emotions that one scene evoked, was brilliantly done. I literally felt the heartbreak that the characters felt.

A great YA Steampunk Fantasy Trilogy

I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Eric Asher is the author of one of my favorite series, the Vesik Series. So, going for this series was a no brainer for me, even though it is geared for YA. I wasn't sure what to expect from Saskia Maarleveld as a narrator but she had an interesting voice and I enjoyed listening to it. Steamborn is a steampunk, fantasy trilogy about a young guy with a knack for gadgets and a propensity to getting into trouble. This is the 3rd book of the trilogy. Very enjoyable, even for adults. Well worth a credit but I would recommend going for the boxed set.

This was an incredibly well-written YA story. I have really enjoyed this whole series and enjoyed listening to it with my teenager. Unique story and fantastic narration. Highly recommend!

This is the 3rd book in the Steamborn series and it didn't disappoint. Action and drama are around every corner, but who are the future enemies of Jacob and Alice? And how far will hey have to go for peace? I'll be counting the days until Eric Asher can get back to completing this series.

Perfect Conclusion

This has been one of my favorite series to listen too and this book concluded the series perfectly. I listened to this book almost nonstop because I had to know what was happening with the war and with Jacob and his friends.

This book is perfect for anyone who likes a bit of fantasy in their lives. Also, if you're interested in steampunk, this is the perfect book to listen to for inspiration while making a costume (yes, that's what I was doing and it was a perfect companion). I highly recommend this series, but start with book one and work your way to this one!

A solid conclusion

If you have enjoyed the first two books in the series (and if you didn't I'm not sure why you would be looking at the third) then you will enjoy this one. It provides a solid conclusion and fitting to the story.

While there was a fair bit of world building in the first two books, this one foregoes that and settles into finishing off the story, through intrigue and action. The systems and rules of the world are in place, and now the book just uses them to tell an interesting story.

The action itself is not overly detailed but it's not really trying to tell the story of the individual fights and actions within the war. It get's the point across, while leaving much of the actual details to the reader.

Without spoiling anything the book ends soon after the climax, with little to no details on what happens after. The aftermath is unclear.

The floodgates of emotion was opened within me by Rebeccas story. Ive never experienced suicide but it doesnt matter. I hope that after listening to this book Ill have a better sense of compassion for those who have as well as additional options for recovering from trauma.

Rebecca takes you right into the heart of her pain and step by step process of rebuilding. Incredibly inspiring and amazingly valuable insight for anyone facing tragedy or challenge of any degree.

Intriguing story. Easy to listen to.

If you could sum up Riven in three words, what would they be?

Captivating, heart-wrenching, page turner

What did you like best about this story?

I loved how the author created a story that incorporated both fantasy and realism. The reader is able to see how the heroine evolves and learns things about herself and how she deals with the things she discovers. I found myself wanting to escape into the fantasy world with her.

Great read/listen. Harris does and excellent job of narrating her story and bringing the characters to life.

The best story

This was the best story that also hits home for people who face these kinds of things in their life. I highly recommend it. As soon as I started listening it was hard to pause for breaks.. I loved the story telling, the pace, the suspension of truth, and the quality of metaphor. For me the journey through Emily's pain and past was sometimes hard to witness, but I was always rooting for her. I love the relationship between the siblings, the truth in their conversations, and the love all around the book. There are tough subjects in the book, and Harris deals with them with a delicate hand. You become part of the Emily's journey into her own pain and you are cheering her on to triumph like the Faeries. I am so excited for part 2.
